I don't know I didn't do this as soon as I bought my 7-string guitar. And this one small change made a HUGUE difference and ignited my love for playing my 7-string.
Here's the thing. String gauge is a personal preference. There's no right or wrong or best. There's only what works best for you.
That said, I've always preferred lighter gauge strings. All of my 6-string guitars have super lights (Elixir Nanwebs, 9-42).
For some reason, I kept using 10s on my 7-string. I guess part of me thought that you needed bigger strings. But that's just not true. At least for me, it wasn't.
If you've been following me for a while (thank you), you know I've struggled with having a 7-string guitar. In fact, I've almost gotten rid of it several times.
Now that I have the super light strings, I'm really rediscovering my 7-string guitar.
Stay tuned for more!
Keep it Metal,
Jason
