As a Kansas native I was happy to see you build Wichita State from scratch. They deserve it and I was rooting even if you did beat my K-State boys. Great video. Would love to see you do a K-State dynasty but like you recruit only from juco, Kansas, and Georgia like Bill Snyder loved doing. If not, another cool rebuild would be Wake Forest. One thing I’ve learned and appreciate about 14 vs 06 is. In 14, you can rebuild in about 4-6 years and be a stud program. In 06, after about 8 years, you’re still rebuilding. It’s a harder process which I appreciate but understanding that most people arent trying to rebuild for a long time

Wichita state was actually a pretty good D1 team in the 50s and 60s but the plane crash in 1970 crippled the team for a while and they never really recovered and after struggling in the divison 1 world for around 16 years. Wichita State no longer had enough funding for the program so they shut it down.

As a proud Wichitan just finding this, thank you. Also, the crash is largely the reason there isn’t a team as well as poor financial lobbying for it and now the recent decision to tear down the old Cessna Stadium on campus (for good reason, it was basically falling apart). It’s an expanding campus and they have room for it if they wanted to go for it, but the money isn’t there and they’d have to try to out recruit Kansas, K-State, nearby JUCOs like Hutch CC and Butler CC, as well as teams from surrounding states. Solid talent pool especially in Derby, but the best players that stay in-state there are 100% looking for those Kansas and K-State type offers

You and Tanman should play against eachother. You as Kentucky, Tanner as Michigan.

The thing about the players dying makes me think about the plane crash that killed the whole Marshal football team

The irony of the Wichita State football team plane is that it happened a month or two before the Marshall football team’s plane crash that same year in 1970 as well and the original football stadium is still standing to this day.

Wheel of States rebuild. Doesn't matter what team you use, but every season you have to spin a wheel 3 times to get 3 states, and only recruit from 1 of them on offense, 1 of them on defense, and 1 of them on special teams. Special teams thrown in there just to make this harder, because you have to assign a state to special teams that has a special teams player, even if it costs you a great offensive or defensive player from that state. You can't use special teams as a throwaway and assign a state that has no special teams player, even if you don't need anyone there. Example, to explain what I'm talking about: Let's say for S1 the wheel gives you Texas, Iowa, and Vermont. Texas has a 5 star QB that looks amazing, but also has a kicker. Iowa has a 5 star MLB that looks amazing, but also has a punter. Vermont has a mediocre slate overall, but has no special teams players. Given Vermont has no special teams players, you can't assign Vermont to special teams, meaning you have to choose whether to give up Texas' 5 star QB or Iowa's 5 star MLB to assign one of them to special teams as they both do have a player there. Hypothetically, you decide you need to have Texas' QB, so you give up Iowa's MLB to assign Iowa to special teams, thus having to assign Vermont to defense and selecting players from their much worse slate. Next season, you reroll the wheel and hope for better luck.
