Six years ago, I quit a job I once loved. I had no job lined up. I couldn't collect Unemployment Insurance, since I'd voluntarily resigned. Three months later, I found a much better job, the job I still have and still love. Hang in there, Norm.

This video spoke to me. At my job “everyone is replaceable” was my company’s motto. They took advantage of hard workers work ethic. If you were good at your job, you got to do others jobs. It was draining me slowly for 2 years until enough was enough. I literally had a mental breakdown before going into work in the parking lot and said “enough is enough” I didn’t go in, left the company and never went back. A job is a job, I’m much happier now and I found myself again. I hope you find that spiritual and mental serenity too. I’m happy for you!

To quit because of happiness is probably one of the hardest acts I’ve ever had to do. Particularly being a teacher and having little people who make me feel needed. But weighing up happiness over their need I knew who needed me more. ME. I was lucky enough to have another job offered to me somewhere I knew I would be happy. Walking away has come with a lot of guilt. Tomorrow is my last day. Be proud. Stand true. You can do it. You inspire and educate us.

I'm not a morning person. I have never been the type of person that could do the 9-5... yeah I have worked in the professional world. I have worked with startups and fortune 500 corporations. I have managed teams, and worked independently... I don't want to say I hated it. Hate is a very strong word. I just didn't want to do it. I don't like waking up early. I don't want to sit in traffic or be crammed on a train. I don't enjoy having a boss hover over me and micro manage my every move. And people say "you just have to deal with it" or "that's life." After all no one actually enjoys any of those things. It' is just something you have to do™, right? How many times have people said "Quit your complaining." Hash words, but very important... I also quit. I quit complaining and started working for myself. Now I do the same thing I have done for 20 years. But, I can do it from my bed, or a bar... I can do it from a beach or a foreign country like Japan... I have always loved what I do I just changed how I do it.

Wow... this brought happy tears to my eyes! I never dreamt that you were unhappy... I adore all of your vlogs and things that you've been sharing with us.... I'm glad that you've come to understand yourself and know that happiness doesn't always reside in a job... do what makes you happiest, and if that happiness is meeting/connecting with people, then you're on the right start!! And I always "Smash that LIKE button," even when I'm not done with watching the vlog... you always have something to say that resonates deeply inside me, and I thank you for sharing everything that you have shared .... Seeing you as "more human," showing your "flaws," has helped me remember that we don't see the entire picture of people..... Thank you!

You've got an amazing, engaged audience. Just look at this video! Uploaded only a few hours ago and already almost 700 likes and 300 comments. That's more than a comment per minute! I hope this helps put things into perspective and lower your stress levels a bit. Haha. That aside, I can really relate to your journey. I don't exactly hate my job, but it doesn't make me feel alive in the way that creating does. Being a family man and working a full time job doesn't leave me with as much time to dedicate to creating as I would like but quitting my job isn't currently an option. I'm going to keep moving forward towards my goals and maybe one day I will be uploading a video like this too. Congrats, man! I'm super happy for you!

Wishing you the best your new adventures, Norm! My husband and I resonate so well with you and your videos, and especially this one. It is so inspiring. We moved to Tokyo about a year ago to experience life in a new way, and see the world from a totally different perspective - we left our stable jobs in North America to do this and it was frightening in every way to leave those, and our families and friends behind. It has been so worth it thus far, and life has presented us with crazy ups and downs since. It is so amazing to see you take a leap into the unknown! Seeing your videos knowing that you held down a full-time position and created content the way you have is eye-opening. Can't wait to see what else you have in store now!

Good for you!! 😁 It’s scary but sometimes quitting a job that makes you unhappy and changing your life is necessary. I had a similar situation 2 years ago, I was managing a store. I got to a point after 6 years of working there when things got so bad it changed my whole attitude even outside of work. It effected me so negatively I forgot who I was too. It took a lot of courage to make the change but I’d do it again in a heartbeat!

there's something i've realized quite a few years ago : if you're feeling miserable and frustrated at your life, you can't expect to become happier if you're not ready to change anything about it, wether it's your job, girlfriend/boyfriend, friends, location etc. we're creatures of habits and this is why change does take great guts IMHO, and many won't ever leave the comfort of their everyday routine in fear of the unknown, and probably in fear of failure too. I for one, would like to leave my place and job but i know i'm just not ready yet. If quiting your job allows you to be happier in life, way to go! having a good job may be great for money and stuff, but nothing is worth wasting your life for it if it makes you miserable. godspeed :)

Norm! This is such a fantastic video, along with all the rest you make. In all your blogs, there’s a lightness, a philosophical touch (the inspiring type, rather than the debilitating) and a joy that just really resonates with me. Thank you for that! It’s also good to see that change is possible, people don’t have to stay in the same situation forever, they can improve, they can make and create, and sometimes it’s especially the things we do in the free time where we should be ‘relaxing’ from our ‘actual’ job that say the most about us :) I hope like yourself to be able to find something that could finance me but also make me happy... I decided to take a creative route, but now I often think I should have gone through a more strict degree like management or the like to then be able to unfold my creativity later. So I think it’s a good thing, having gone the difficult route. It’s often the most fulfilling. Can’t wait to see more from you! And maybe visit that bridge one day, maybe it will also speak to me :)

I just started my channel this month because my dad died a year ago and I wanted to make sure I left me for my unborn grandchild, family and friends etc. too incase anything happened to me. I could feel this moment for you, this change for you and I’m so happy for you!

What a powerful video! It brought back memories of when I quit a job because I simply wasn't happy and knew it wasn't going to get any better. To this day, I haven't regretted the decision and have a much better outlook on life now. Thanks for sharing!

You know this kinda took me back when I was still a Trainee. I hated that company and I was always feeling down even going there. I actually had also something symbolic like your bridge it was a park and it always calmed me down going through that park. Someday I decided I can't do it anymore and actually found a better job and finished my vocational training of three years there. Now I'm finished with it and I could experience so many great things. Often you know it already, change is good and it's gonna free your mind :)

This hit so close to home for me that I can honestly said it made me a tad emotional. Coming from a small town of 1,300 in Nebraska makes me feel so disconnected with the world in general. I’ve felt stuck for as long as I can remember but have been too scared to change anything. My dreams are way different from everyone around me and I fell into a routine that is safe but uneventful. My dream is to actually visit Japan and see if it’s a place where I would want to settle down in and have a career. That’s actually how I came across your videos in the first place. It’s videos like this that prove that change is good and anything is possible. THIS is what I needed to see today!😊
