My first swim team was in Jamaica, where we swam LC. We traveled to a meet in Miami, where the 50m pool had a bulkhead that divided the pool into 25 yards and 25 meters. My first words when I saw that 25 yard pool were, “That’s it? That’s the whole pool?” Now I swim mostly SCY, and an LC lap seems to take a year.

Every time I swim short course yards in practice again after a season of swimming long course, I feel like a god among men. Then, the first swim meet comes around and I realize that I still suck.

Ear plugs are good when you don’t want to hear that “ splashing sound” of water during your races, Luckily off the blocks, the horn is super loud. Plus wearing them during your training prevents that” swimmers ear” infection adventure.

At least here in Ca, there are very few open to the public “50 meter “ pools. Colleges/universities/some high schools have 50 meters- land is otherwise super expensive ( more profitable to be dwellings then pools). LC is about stroke technique/ SC is about working the turns. Make a mistake with the turns during a SC race- you’re dead meat…

Sometimes I really think they need to toughen up the entry standards a little. I understand that they want a lot of participation and don't want to discourage people from sticking with masters swimming, though, so it has to be tricky balancing it all out.
