The Adidas Adizero Takumi Sen 10 is a racing shoe designed for the 5k and 10k distance. Compared to marathon racing shoes, this category of short distance road racers typically feature less foam, lighter weights and a more streamlined, aggressive ride character. In this video, I give an overview of the Takumi Sen 10, compare it to other Adidas Adizero shoes and let you know my thoughts on the ride performance after running a 10k time trial.

I bought the Nike Streakfly in sale and it isn't the shoe for me. Lightweight, but very unstable with only Zoom X and no plate. Sure the stack height is low, but still unstable even though I'm a short distance type of person. I also bought the Vomero 17 on sale (mainly for my shifts in the ER and not running) and preferred the Vomero on the one run I did in it before use it for work.

The super high stack marathon shoes are great for hours of cruising on wide open marathon courses. But for stuff like parkruns and tempos around the neighborhood, all that stack makes sharp turns, hopping curbs, and dodging cars really awkward. I picked up the Takumis for $110 (less than my daily trainers) and they're the perfect tool for some jobs. More fun to run short distances in and cheaper/mile than the Adios Pros... makes them pretty easy to justify in my rotation.

That's a great point - might be a good shoe for a city runner who needs to navigate a lot of those turns and obstacles. Out in the burbs I have nice wide lanes to run through. Also got my Takumi Sen 8 for $100 and it's one of the best buys I've had - and they had that sale going for a while. Hopefully they'll cut the price on the 10 soon

I'm in the UK where Parkrun is a big thing, a weekly timed 5k often around a park. My peer group and I treat it as a race and it's usally on a twisty turny course, the Takumi Sen is perfect for this, and gets alot of use being picked for a weekly 5k race. Lightweight, snappy and great for tight corners 👍
@kylestephens9593
@kylestephens9593 16 күн бұрын
my strategy for tight corners is to take them as wide as possible. i can do 180 turns without much slowing down even with chunkier shoe. granted, i'm not competitively fast so i guess it will be harder for fast runners

@@supwell Yes, the first Puma Fast-r (v.1) same reason as not the full 40mm stack, so easier to corner and handle canal towpath etc, so you're not feeling like you're up on rails. Puma a bit heavier but slightly more pop, it equals them out really. Both nimble and disappear on foot without all that stack and bulk!

I used the sen 10’s for my local park run in the uk for the first time today and they felt great, it’s mostly on uneven twisty tarmac paths, with a few long straight’s and a lot of people to weave in and out of, have used endorphin pro 3’s and puma deviate Niro elite 2, which also did a good job (puma best in the winter) The sens felt better for the twisty bits, reminded me of my old saucony fast twitch 9 🙂🏃‍♂️

I have my 5K PR in TS8. I had bought 3 pairs at 60% discount and just retired a pair and rotated my racing pair to speed interval workouts and 3rd pair to racing. At the price I got, the shoe justifies itself. At $180 it is hard to make a case as a dedicated 5k/10k racing shoe when VF3 and Metaspeed Sky/Edge Paris is so light but there is more likelihood that TS will be found at good discount levels.

Strange, for me, the Takumi Sen fits like a dream and I have absolutely no pain. I have the boston 12 too and it feels awful, my heel slips, the eyelits dig in to my foot, the top of the laces dig into my foot. I guess a lot of the time it's just if they work for you, rather than them being inherently bad or uncomfy.

I have the TS8, which is not all that different from the TS10. I agree with you that it is not very comfortable. It's okay for the 2.5 mi loop that I run, and even for that I would say it's hit or miss. Some days it feels good, other days it feels pretty flat. The VF3 is lighter and better cushioned, so putting price aside, for me it's a no-brainer for the VF3. Lightstrike Pro gets better as it gets thicker, though. The Adios Pro 3, although firm, is pretty good and what I use most often, but really you have to go up to the Prime X Strung (1st gen) to have a Lightstrike Pro shoe that is genuinely fun and not punishing to run in. Completely different category of running shoe compared to the Takumi Sen, but really, nothing else in my collection really holds a candle to the PXS1. It's worth every penny.
@gabr131s9
@gabr131s9 16 күн бұрын
Nice vid man! I personally own the Adios Pro 3 and love them for short and fast workouts, love the bounce and response they give. How would you compare to Takumi Sen 10 for 5km/10km? Are they too overly stacked or do you reckon you could get equal performance or even a faster time possibly for the shorter distance run?
@noquarter1983
@noquarter1983 16 күн бұрын
I ran two 5k races within a few weeks of each other, one of them in the takumi sen (21:10) then the other a few weeks later in the adios pro 3 (20:30). Both of them were equally effective on that distance and the times do not reflect the shoes' ability, but the TLDR of this would be the adios pro 3 was more bouncy and definitely more cushioned, leaving my legs feeling better, and I did not feel the difference in weight of the takumi made it more advantageous at the 5k distance over the AP3. Got another 5k coming in a few weeks, and it's gonna be AP3 for a sub 20!

I actually threw on my old escalante's that have almost 600 mi on them the other day and I found them to be super comfortable even more so than my relatively new Adidas SLs. Maybe that just has to do with needing to break in the SLs a little bit more but they're pretty comfortable shoes. For the longest time they were my only running shoes and I set my half marathon PR in them. But I agree, I don't see the value proposition for the Takumi Sen's. They seem too heavy and finicky to make sense for short and fast racing.

I used to do a lot of time trials when I was cycling. I saw a lot of guys that spent and extra couple $1,000 on their bikes then added some $1,000 rims to try to shave a few seconds and move up the Strava rankings, while I was riding my aluminum bike. To me, that's like buying a different shoe for every type of run. I am trying to find shoes that work for me for 95% of what I do and, hopefully, have the ability to pick up the pace a little if I feel like doing that. I'd like to set a PR but I'm just not going to break the bank to do it. Therefore, I agree that the Boston 12 sounds like a great option for a 10K even if I could shave off 3-5 seconds per mile with the Takumi Sen. For me, the Deviate Nitro 2 has been that shoe, which has a lot of similar qualities. I have to admit, I do have my eye on the Neo Vista though.

@supwell

yeah agreed man - you've really gotta put some power into them to get something back. i felt the lightstrike pro in the takumi sen 8 was bouncier without having to put so much force into it. maybe it'll break in but it's hard to get a lot of miles on the shoe since it's not the most comfotable

The lighter shoes may be the standard but they do not have the longevity of the heavier ones. For most people who need to budget around one or two pairs of shoes, you would sacrifice 50g of weight in order for your shoes to last an extra 6 months.

@josemaioral
@josemaioral 16 күн бұрын
@@supwell I understand you, because being younger (a few generations) than me, you always ran in shoes with a lot of cushioning. I'm a veteran runner and I can guarantee you with absolute certainty that well over half of the 29 marathons (42km) I've completed were run in shoes with a much smaller midsole and with material far inferior to the LightStrike Pro. And I just don't use a Takumi Sen, in a marathon, because I have the ADIOS Pro and I would opt for it, just because it is wider and more stable (important in the final phase when the footing is no longer firm). But I realize that the new generations have a different idea of the level of hardness/softness. A firmer midsole like Adidas allows for high performance even without a full carbon plate, as firmness generates performance by itself. Take the case of Nike, the ZoomX is too soft, and although they have a super light sneaker like the Vapor Fly Next, their Elite athletes opt for the Alpha Fly which is heavier, but gets more return due to the firmness of the air sphere/ gas in the front part of the shoe. The market is increasingly asking for softer sneakers, undoubtedly more comfortable, but with less performance. For me, the LightStrike Pro is right on point and is the best midsole on the market.
@supwell

@@josemaioralyeah exactly man! It's all about our reference points. Although I did enjoy the low profile Nike free runs for short jogs to the gym in the 2010s. But we are in agreement that Lightstrike pro is one of the best foams out there! I love the density. ZoomX just doesn't do it for me
