What's your "why" for running a marathon? 👇
@nedludd3641
@nedludd3641 Жыл бұрын
My mum & dad worked hard all their lives. When they retired, they stopped and neither lived long after that. Time came when I too retired, stopped, got very fat, prediabetic. My GP gave me 'that talk' five years ago. So, 'NHS Couch to 5K', then 5K ParkRuns, then Half-marathons, now virtual marathons. I want to push myself to the envelope of endurance, because I want to see if, just maybe, I still got it

My "why" was originally to lose weight and get fit. After completing an (albeit woefully underprepared) trail ultra a couple of years ago, my current "why" is to keep improving to reach peak fitness for my age, and definitely complete more long-distance races at a good (for me) pace.

I’m 58 and only started running two years ago after losing 90 lbs and transforming my life during Covid work from home. There’s a lot of backstory, but to be honest now is that I run to feel alive and because I still can. I run to prove to myself and my children that tough things are possible and worth all the effort. I run to be more present in my life, to quiet my mind and be a better person.

Well done Sarah! I am currently training for my first marathon and my "why" is because I am about to turn 40 and have chronic pain and fatigue as the result of my breast cancer treatment when I was 34. I set these goals to celebrate what my body can do, and continue to show myself I am capable of doing difficult things 😊 I run for the friends I made in the support groups that unfortunately didn't get to call themselves survivors 💔

Huge hugs to you, you'll do great! People and stories like yours are what motivate me to get out the door when I'm feeling whiny about my much smaller troubles. I'm currently reading an incredible book called "New Altitude", that follows a women's journey through illness, running, and mountain climbing. You might find it motivating on your journey. Well done Sarah, this was AMAZING and you’re genuinely so inspiring! My ‘why’ is that I never thought I could be the kind of person who runs - as a teenager I never felt I belonged in the ‘sporty’ crowd, and I know my younger self would so proud of the limits I’ve pushed myself to as an adult. So proud of you Sarah! You are such an inspiration. I’m prepping for a marathon and a few months ago I couldn’t even run 5K without walking most of it. The Running Channel has been such a great resource. My “why” is to prove to myself that I can do something hard. Something that the majority of the population has no desire to put in the effort to achieve. Nothing is more powerful than pulling yourself out of the dark during a long run and I know a marathon/marathon prep will give me the mental resilience to pull myself out of anything. Keep up the great work Sarah!! :)

@@theraving90s65 I'd love to go under 4 hours. I'm at 4:11:01 but hoping to improve on that. Still managed a Good for Age for Chicago so looking forward to that as well in Oct.

That was so impressive, Sarah! I totally understand why you cry at the end, and I cried with you too. I love running as well, and I'm actually happy I'm able to run half a maraton. But my ultimate dream is one day to be able to run a full marathon. I am 57 and hope I'm not too old. I'm not very fast but I love longer runs. Thank you for sharing all the great info on this channel, and Sarah, you did such a great job making this video filming, talking and running at the same time. And you ran the marathon sub 3.50 - Congratulation Girl !!

Awesome Effort!! Well done! I have my first ever marathon coming up in April, every week now my long runs are a new PB. Getting a little nervous, but just got to believe in the work i'm putting in and run the mile i'm in!

Huge kudos. What an amazing race you had. Be super proud. I’ve been running for years. But only ever up to 10k. Now I’m close to hitting 50 I want to tick off the challenges I’ve always feared. I have just done the north lincs half. Next up is Manchester marathon in April. Then onto Amsterdam marathon in October. I have the comrades marathon on my list too. I feel like I’m crazy but totally invested and motivated for what is coming my way. Thankyou for yet another fantastic video.

The 'why' is a marathon is the ultimate feeling of transcendence, putting yourself into an almost meditative state , elevating yourself , there's truly nothing like it.

Just wondering, when do I receive shipment of my Mizuno's for services to 'The Running Channel' fandom, and general excellence in commenting and 'LIKE' button clicking? 👍😉 My feet have remained 'un-carbon plated' for too long 💨
