Always love hearing people’s thoughts on mechs, but it was interesting doing a deep dive on these boxes. Would love to see a Word of Blake, or Republic of the Sphere ranking one of these days

Redesigns of the previously blocky mechs was long overdue. Catalyst Game Labs knocks it out of the park. I already have The Beginner Box, Game of Armored Combat, and Clan Invasion Box, and a few lance packs. I hope they release mechs individualy at some point on blister cards or window boxes. I'm not a fan of blind box marketing. I want to know what I'm getting.

I strongly disagree with elementals for a very simple reason - scale. BT mechs are at the very awkward 1/265 scale, where it's hard to sculpt or add features that truly show their scale. Even most scale grass are far too long for these mechs. Elementals are absolutely perfect for showing that scale, with a guy in a battlesuit. Without them, most mechs look about 2m tall with the generic tall grass and rocky base. Elementals are the only thing I'd put in the must buy category. I hope they'll release battlesuit or platoons for IS in the future for this very simple reason.

wow, completely the reverse of my thoughts! Your "double down" list i only got 2 packs from there, while many of your mid range I felt were must buys. I think a big indicator of ranking is HOW are you buying: Theme force? Competitive? Low budget? etc. I'd have loved to see you average these out, not top heavy must buys, but a good spread of placement on ratings.

I play mainly DCMS and my opinion is that the wolfhound is the odd man out on the striker lance.

Yesterday, I ordered the Clan Striker Star, which is the last force pack that I needed from this Kickstarter-era set. I also have one each of the new Mercenary force packs, giving me at least one of every force pack available, currently. I also have at least one of every boxed set (Beginner, Beginner 2.0, A Game of Armored Combat, Clan Invasion Boxed Set and Alpha Strike Boxed Set). Can't wait for March 23....

P.s. check out the newer (in relation too the BT timeline) version of the wasp that mounts 2 er. med. Las, and two sm pl. Las... with 6 jump jets... I think it does a great job in mixed terrain... though I've only gotten full-blown "can operner" rolls once... it usually gets too open up on the enemy's rear twice a game... and if a light mech is close enough to use the smalls on a mech, it usually draws attention away from my heavy hitter.

Lol, I didnt care about the rest of the Ad Hoc star. I got just a Kodiak for way to much.... And yeah, I really dig a large portion of the CGL redesigns for these minis. I remember going through my dad's old TROs and thinking an overwhelming majority of hte mechs looked like ass. PGI, I like alot of thier redesigns as well. There was also Wizkids Clix mech designs and while some looked aight, a large number looked like cancer. Their Thunderbolt II for example. Thier Atlas, the Loki and Thor redesigns, with the Loki looking better than the Thor for sure. Panther, I kinda like it cuz its a light with a big punch...sorta. Jenner is kinda cool, Wolfhound, honestly never used it in any game and Blackjack, not a fan. Its soooooo goddamn squishy and to light to really put any good loadout on it....

How do you have an urban lance without an UrbanMech ?

I bought 6 of the level 2 comand lance.

the raven and atlas lances are must haves for me and the rest would be in an if you like it tier

I disagree on the Elementals if only because I don't have them and plus they are some of the coolest part of the lore for me, but hey that is just coming from a guy who is coming over from Warhammer.

Spurred by this I just had a look at the price of the old Reinforcements boxed sets back in the day ... £100! :faints: I think I paid about a fiver for mine!

I'd be putting the Command Level II in the two category over the other one but that's me. Glad they went for the traditional centurion. the MWO one is fugly imo. looks nothing like the original and the shield is pointless as it's just a thicker arm. How can you hate the panther though? decent armor, jump jets and a ppc..

The Elemental Star is criminally overpriced. Yes it's five bases, but the overall material used (if we discard the bases, that all force packs come with), is the same as for 2 mechs, maybe even less. $20 price for this maybe, $15 for sure. At $25 it's a pass, I would rather buy a mech lance instead of this.
