I think Nihilego might be my favourite. Being translucent, and vaguely human-shaped despite being very visibly empty just gives it this level of eerieness beyond any other Ultra Beast

Not to mention the body plan essentially rendering it as a hollow shell, making it look like a humanoid using negative space. Also the fact that we don't know its motives for certain behaviors beyond "absorb nutrient to live." We'll never know why it exhibits childlike behaviors or if it can comprehend existence. That's what makes it the perfect Eldritch friend.

Sadly they sacrificed the payoff to Lusamine's arc to do so. Apparently the power of familial love and a fight against a roided up Clefable isnt the only thing that can snap her out of Nihilego venom insanity, an offsceen spook from the low poly pair of tongs that hijacks the plot works just as well.

I just realized since it only says that Buzzwole is common, but doesn’t say it is a weak Pokémon in their universe. So my theory is that it is common in their world the same way you would consider us common. We are on every continent and we are top of the food chain in most of them.

I feel regional forms of Ultra beasts doesn’t really make sense. They’re not native to Alola to begin with, they’re already adapting over there, and didn’t really change that much from their original forms (as far as we’re aware).

I actually like all of the UB’s, some more than others obviously, but I didn’t expect that when I played through Alola. My top five being 1. Stakataka 2. Blacephalon 3. Nihilego 4. Buzzwole 5. Guzzlord. I know nobody really cares, but who doesn’t love making a top 5? Lol

Yay, you did one of my suggestions 😊 Even though Buzzwole easily has my favourite design out of all of the Ultra Beasts, Nihlego is my favourite beasty period due to it being one of the few non-legendary Pokemon to play a major role in one of the games stories. I also love how up to interpretation its motivations and abilities are. Does it desire companionship or sustenance in the form of organic life. Does it corrupt people or rip their filters to shreds? Is it truly aware of the things it does or is it acting purely out of instinct? I will definitely say though, I absolutely despise how much of a tease the Mother Beast Lusamine form was. We could’ve had a true boss fight in Pokemon for the first time in years since Kyurem Black/White, but instead we got... a slightly harder version of the fight we had against her half an hour ago. I would’ve happily ate up all those forced tutorials and unskippable cutscenes if it meant having a cool, innovative boss fight but oh well. At least the concept was used well enough in the anime.

I like Celesteela and her references because I'm a massive nerd like that. And considering all the Ultra Beasts are references to classic science fiction stories and tropes it's nice to see the story represented. The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter is considered to be one of the oldest science fiction stories still around today and is the oldest surviving monogatari. We don't have an exact date for when it was written but the earliest known performance of the story is somewhere around 900 AD iirc so it's at least that old. If you don't know the story Studio Ghibli actually turned it into an animated movie some time ago under the name "The Tale of the Princess Kaguya" and its a damn good adaptation.

I just recently learned that Blacephalon was a thing after my friend was showing me his Showdown mono Ghost team. I liked Alola a lot and I thought I caught all the Ultra Beasts, but I swear I've never seen that thing in my life. Must've mogged me so hard it full MiB wiped my memory after encountering it.

I’m currently playing through Photonic Sun and I get defensive whenever someone says “Gen 7 is boring.” Then I remember I agree and I’m only enjoying it because it’s a really good romhack. The base games are pretty boring

@Olivia 757 I did that when I played Moon as well, but the game was still far too slow and I found it really boring. I couldn’t even get past the second trial of Ultra Sun despite making it an Egglocke. But Photonic Sun is actually really fun and I don’t mind the slow animations so much because each battle is an actual challenge, so I’m actively engaged and not just clicking the same move 3 times to win.

Each route was a straight line and the battle animations were all really slow, including the intro, ability, and catching animations. I tried playing Pokémon X again recently and it’s ridiculous how much faster everything is in Gen 6.

Honestly, now I just want to see a show called "Purrserker's Pub," where each episode takes place in the titular pub as we get to see a bunch of hijinks & shenanigans from regulars and newcomers alike. The pub would also have a rival in Alolan Meowth's Nightclub, where some episodes would also take place for a change of scenery. TL;DR: I pitched an entire show off of a running gag and I honestly wish it were real.

Nihilego's my favorite for a similar uncanny valley-styled reason. Sea jellies are already crazy weird, so coating one in glass and molding it into a mannequin's infected Halloween hat is a genius design choice. It's not a head with tentacles, it's all negative space... because you're the one supplying the head. Hence the sick Latin name "I am nothing." It needs YOU to exist on its behalf. There's a reason why it's my third-favorite Pokemon of all time. Only Crobat and a flying lawnmower can out-cool this parasitic art installation. Not to mention it's the one Poison-Type that can Toxic a family relationship.

Sun and Moon isn't boring, it's just more story focused than other Pokemon games. It maybe lacks replayability, but the first playthrough is one of the best in the entire franchise.

I like the thought of the Buzzwoles that got through the holes are just the tiniest and weakest of them. I am imagining a 50 meter Buzzwole reaching through a wormhole, ripping it open like a piece of paper and stepping out, just to grap a skyscraper and star benchpressing it as if it was nothing.
