Well, I was one of the people who voted for this, and I'm glad you decided to to revisit it! This is a versatile little piece which could be adapted to a number of uses. I'm not usually a fan of exposed hinges either, but they are a great design choice on this one. I wonder if you don't have some other early projects that would be good candidates for this sort of video ("shop rule" notwithstanding) because it's really neat when someone shares how they've grown in a craft or hobby. (Sort of like "what I wish I could tell my younger self")... I am going to call you out for one thing, though - you totally chickened out by only using a seven-year-old photo of Bubby... I was hoping to see one of you as well! 🤣😂😆

Shara, so nice to see you uploaded a video this Saturday morning. I love your process and subconsciously probably replicate it when I'm in my shop. I think anyone building this project would be well ahead purchasing your plans. I suspect your weather is a bit like ours. I was wearing my shorts last week and this week it will be blue jeans and sweatshirts. Ha! I'm putting my carport roof back together which collapsed under the weight of the snow this past winter. Just watching your video gets me in the mood to keep building. Thanks for Sharing!

Thank you so much! I always try and make the plans as easy to follow as possible. Hopefully they are haha! Yes, the weather here is driving me nuts 😂 I started building this in shorts and I went out of town for a week and came back to work on it again a little in a hoodie then I went out of town another week and came back to work on it in a coat again. This week we are back to shorts. It’s a roller coaster. One of these days it’ll level out and get hot and I’ll wish it was cold again 🤣 good luck with your carport repair! Hopefully it stays cool for you…I’m sure working on a roof in the heat isn’t ideal. Anyway, thanks so much for watching and I really hope you have a wonderful weekend!

This was a very nice project. I recently found your channel and have especially enjoyed seeing how you primarily use the pocket hole fasting method. I will be using this method on my current project to build a linen closet. Thank you for your very clear instructions and illustrations. I think I may try the Kreg ripping system, too, for breaking down the 8' x 4' x 3/4" sheets.

Thank you so much! I love pocket holes for building and especially for cabinets and plywood projects! I’m glad you find the videos and the instructions helpful 🙌 for what it’s worth, I love the Kreg rip cut and accucut guides and use them on almost every project. They’re life savers! I have a guide to using them here if you’re interested: www.woodshopdiaries.com/cut-down-plywood-sheets-with-circular-saw/
@westtexas5754
@westtexas5754 Жыл бұрын
@@WoodshopDiaries I ended up getting the Kreg rip-cut and also the Accu-cut. Just finished breaking down a sheet of maple plywood using both of them and am very pleased with the results. It was a little "new" but became more and more familiar with each cut. Thank you for putting me onto this system in your video! My woodshop was too crowded to set up in so I set up in my tractor shed so that I could back the truck right up to the sawhorses and slide the sheet off. I will break down the remaining sheets in the same manner. As a 70+ year-old, every labor saving step is welcomed. Thanks again.

@WoodshopDiaries
@WoodshopDiaries Жыл бұрын
Haha it is quite a mess. It’s got quite a few pieces from quite a few half finished projects in there that I need to deal with. The lumber rack on the right wall and plywood storage cart in the back are both really helpful in there for wood storage. It’s all the other random assortment of things I’ve thrown in here that have made it a mess 🤣

Its always fun to watch your eyes when you're working something out in your head. Do the hinges actually stop the door when its straight/closed? Or do the shelves act as a door stop?
@WoodshopDiaries
@WoodshopDiaries Жыл бұрын
…Kind of neither? The shelves aren’t deep enough to stop the door but the hinges don’t stop them either. If I pushed the door, it would swing in a little. But the hinges are “stiff” enough to hold the door in place so I just close it where I want it and it holds. If that makes sense.

I am using a SurfPrep sander with vacuum system. Before it I was using a Mirka with vacuum system but it died and I switched to surfprep. I like it a lot but it’s pricey. I also have a cheap $100 Bosch orbital sander and it works just as well and you could just hook it to a shop vac for basically the same set up.

One of my biggest struggles with building is trying to get things square. On my budget im using construction lumber (which i know is part of the problem), which it seems like you are using as well. How are you able to get your pieces square enough for your projects? I have and use a tablesaw and circular saw guides but i never seem to get it quite right
@WoodshopDiaries
@WoodshopDiaries 5 ай бұрын
Hi! First, it’s important to take your time choosing the best boards you can. I suspect that’s likely the real issue in most cases. I discuss that more here: www.woodshopdiaries.com/how-to-buy-lumber/ Then, make sure to shave off factory ends so you’re starting with square ends for your cuts-for example, shave a blade width off the end of your 2x4 board before measuring and cutting your first piece. That way the ends are both cut smooth and square. In many cases, I square the rounded corners off my 2x boards like shown here: www.woodshopdiaries.com/woodworking-tips-square-edges-make-your-own-2x2s/

Hi Shara, have you ever had problems with the edge banding peeling up after a while?
@WoodshopDiaries
@WoodshopDiaries Жыл бұрын
Hi! I haven’t had any that was sticking fine just start unsticking. In other words, I haven’t found time to be a failure factor. However, I have found that if I didn’t properly apply it, it would show up when applying a finish. Any section that isn’t properly glued will bubble when finishing. That’s when I learned you need to apply heat until the glue melts (don’t just quickly run the iron over it and call it good) and make sure to PRESS IT DOWN while it’s still warm. Since I learned that (pretty early on haha) I’ve had this on kitchen cabinet doors, my workshop, and projects all over my bathroom (moisture prone areas) and not had any start peeling. I have a guide to how to apply it with links to what I use here: www.woodshopdiaries.com/how-to-cover-plywood-edges/
