Cassandra is a fanfic writer and she didn't become better. In that she is good but that's all. (She had some issues back then if you old enough to remember her before she was famous.) 4th Wing... it's not an accident that it became famous. They paid ads, tiktokers, goodreads, gave it to celebs before publish... So yes.. they hyped it up. It's... a tiktok book, we could call it that. Why else did they ordered more than acotar first version before publishing? They knew it will be a success. Most of the authors don't get this support, even those who are already famous in fantasy. Based on your probably 5 star video... you would like Robin Hobb's series. She is a really good writer and has fantastic characters. And just an extra: Terry Pratchett's Discworld.. probably with Equal Rites.

@@anniecanread yes. It’s not just a fun read but has multiple layers of meaning under the surface. After all not many fantasy authors get that “Sir” behind their names for their achievements in English literature. He was a master of the language and yet it is not boring or hard to read/understand. He called out everything including the corrupt systems or women equality even gender roles and of course death. He laughed on all, as some said, sarcasm is not punch down but punch up to the big guys.

The shadowhunter chronicles is my life! Started TMI when I was 14. I'm 23 now. You should definitely read it instead of listening to audiobooks. TMI gets better after City of glass. And TID is such a soulful series. Cassandra Clare is my Taylor Swift in literature. Honestly, this is the first time I seen someone label Cassie's work as worst when her stories are highly rated. You should read again & I think older readers would understand her words more than kids soooo

Respectfully, The entire Cassandra Clare lineup is insufferable and reeks of the slash fics of the early internet. I ate these books up when I was in high school in 2010-13, (as well as other classics of the time that also don't stand up to time like Vampire Academy, Fallen, Hush Hush, etc) but i was also a frequent visitor of fanfic sites, which makes sense when you learn that this series started out as HP fanfic lol. I don't need to go through all the reasons TMI is bad because people are allowed to like bad things, whether it's a guilty pleasure or something nostalgic that didnt age well, whatever floats your boat. However, it is a fact that Cassandra Clare writes books for high school girls who like smut. They're not literary masterpieces mean to be marveled over and revisited, and they're not meant to make you think critically bc if you do you start to see the cracks in the writing. Which is why reading them as an adult for the first time gives a different perspective than you get from reading them in high school. Which, again, is absolutely fine if that's what you want to read! By all means enjoy yourself. But please don't keep giving this person, your "taylor swift", undue praise for being mediocre.

yeah i really want to join in on the hype for these books!! i’m definitely planning on giving tid another shot bc i love the setting and i might give city of fallen angels a shot. i think what contributed to making these the ‘worst’ was that i was so disappointed i didn’t like them but we’ll see how things go when i get back into reading them
