Hello. I'm Tim Rogers. I am more excited about Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice than I am about anything else happening in maybe the next six months of my life. I am so excited about it, and so bought in to From Software games in general, that I don't even need to play the game to review it. No matter how cheesy its cheapest boss is, there is absolutely no chance I will come away from the experience of playing this game with any criticisms at all.
Therefore, this is not a review of Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. In this video, I discuss everything I know about the game. Most importantly, I address the concerns of 4,000 KZfaq commenters. Yes, I read 4,000 KZfaq comments in preparation for this video, and I did lots of math.

correction: when i say “both kings field and dark souls use souls as currency” i am completely wrong. the truth is that line was unfinished in the script. the prompter just went “both kings field and dark souls” and cut off. i saw that and was like “i have no idea what i was even going to write here. so i’ll just say something random and then cut it out during editing!” i said something random and then did NOT cut it out during editing :-( oops! making a show like this all by myself is kinda hard lmao

I love this format, seeing Tim communicate these lines makes it far more personal, especially for his own writing. This create a really nice variety from the "voice over only videos" (which are also great) ... and frankly, I love Kotaku for the staff's individual personalities. This puts a writer's personality front and center and further communicates an idea or critique by a real person, not just the name on the channel/website. Thank you for experimenting with your format and for the hardwork of the team! Keep trying new things, you are all awesome.

Great piece! As an aside, I'm still hoping that the end of the game has the protagonist saving his lord - Lord Gohda from Tenchu. Plus points if our hero is mortally wounded and passes his blade to a pre-teen Rikimaru who is also held captive, and told to extract Gohda in a final mission that plays more like traditional Tenchu. I just really love Tenchu.

You're just wonderful at convincing me to purchase video games. I was going to wait until next month but it's on sale now for 50$. After this I have to have a long contemplation on dragon quest XI.

Wait, I also thought of Ninja Scroll when I first saw footage of Sekiro! Can I go to your birthday party too? To be honest, the only reason I though of Ninja Scroll though is because it's on my mind's quick-dial of reference points to anything remotely like this. I suspect that many European fellas of a certain age have the same indelible memory of watching Manga (Video? Entertainment? I don't remember)'s Voodoo People trailer, and Ninja Scroll was the first of the Anime released by that company I ever watched. I also suspect many of those European fellas had the same feeling of discovery that I had. It was the perfect thing at the perfect time. (By the way, it's cool seeing Tim fulfilling this New Year Resolution. And it's cool just seeing Tim).

I've been thinking about how beating your first Soulsborne game is a transformative experience. A lot of series newcomers ask whether Soulsborne games are for them if they aren't into hard games. In the case of Soulsborne, I don't think that's the right question to ask, because if you beat a Soulsborne game, then you become the kind of person that Soulsborne games are for, regardless of what kind of "gamer" you were before.

This is very true for me. I beat Bloodborne for the first time the other day and now I am very much the FROM target audience. LOL
