In Charlie’s taste defense, having a certain book on his shelf doesn’t necessarily mean he has read or liked it. He just owned it

I think Charlie would like these 2 books: 1 - The Music of What Happens by Bill Konigsberg. There is joy and freshness to the story, but also unease and a sense of impending catastrophe is never far - that would play to his angsty humors, I think, without being too pessimistic. And I think Max and Jordan are just so similar to Nick and Charlie themselves ! 2 - Cemetery Boys by Aiden Thomas: the elements of quest, the supernatural, mixed with the utmost confusion of genres (literary and identitary) make it a book Charlie would love, because he is such a non-conventional and free spirit. Also, Julian is such a charismatic character, an irresistible ghost boyfriend !

I wholeheartedly agree on Cemetery Boys oh my gosh! I can't believe I forgot about recommending that one, it's literally perfect! I haven't read the first book yet, but now I have another recommendation 👀

yay!!! a new video :) i loved hearing your thoughts on these books! i used to read a lot of david levithan in my adolescence, and recently picked up his middle grade novel "answers in the pages" which i enjoyed a lot more than anything i had read before. i agree with your thoughts about "only on the weekends." it wasn't my favorite, but there were some parts that i really liked. the black flamingo is much better!!

So happy to see that you're doing another one of these videos. I love the format of you reviewing the characters' bookshelves and offering recommendations!! When You Call My Name has definitely piqued my interest and I will be adding it to my TBR. For so long, we have had so few novels about queer history meant for teens, let alone ones that grapple with the early days of the AIDS epidemic. As difficult as it is to talk about, it brings me some joy to know that young people will have access to that history through YA literature. Just an aside, but it is still mind-blowing to me that stories set in the 80s and 90s can now be classified as historical fiction. I was born in the late 90s and it makes me feel so old!

loved this video i haven’t read only on the weekends yet but i have read black flamingo! i enjoyed black flamingo so much and it was cool reading a book that was in verse! i can tell where you are coming from because some times dean attas way of writing people can make it hard to like them. But i definitely think you’d enjoy black flamingo and resonate with it :)

I’d recommend him "Where we go from here" by Luca Rocha, I just finished it today and it was heartwarming and educational! I really loved it. It’s about three boys in Rio de Janero, two of them are HIV positive, one just made a negative test and the story follows them as they navigate relationships and prejudices surrounding the subject of HIV. I’m looking forward to the author publishing any more books.
