Here's the tier list.
I finally finished reading ALL of the stories on the Japanese reading app, Satori Reader! This is the comprehensive Satori Reader STORY tier list. I do not rank the conversation pieces, news, or textbook bonus example sentences, though those are EXTREMELY useful as well!

I came up with the idea BEFORE they offered to sponsor it, and NONE of my opinions on the stories were influenced by said sponsorship.

I’m a member of TokiniAndy and Satori Reader (both over a year). Satori Reader reinforces Genki I-II grammar points. Also, Satori Reader is great for shadowing! I find Satori Reader extremely versatile and just the right complement while studying Genki with TokiniAndy.

Woohoo! That's the award I was aiming for. haha It's so good right! It's the Sony ECM-B1M (They are so good at names...). The build quality is garbage, but my god are the features and audio quality on point. I got it to test out, but wasn't really expecting to switch from my Deity. I tested them side by side though, and the Sony BLEW the Deity out of the water.

I've also read every story on Satori-reader (minus the close ups which I plan to get to) and I have to say that this tier list is on point. A bit of a shame that you read Akiko's American Exchange before a certain series though. I read the other one first and my mind was blown when I came to that part in Akiko. Was a little worried that you'd do my boy Kona dirty but happy to see you put him in S-tier where he belongs. Super excited to see what Satori does with Fujiki Consulting Services, feels like a very different type of story from what they've done so far. Perhaps because while there has been some fantastical elements in Satori's stories, I feel as though everything so far has been some what rooted in everyday life scenarios. It's maybe too early to say, but it feels like Fujiki's protagonist is going to introduce us to a new world and I'm all for it. I'm getting light novel vibes from it.
@ToKiniAndy
@ToKiniAndy 2 жыл бұрын
I had already read the story you're speaking of when I got to that point in Akiko, so I felt exactly the same way. I had started to feel like that might be what was happening, but it was so satisfying when it really did become that! I'm also really excited about Fujiki! Brian and I talked about it a little in the Podcast we did, and I've been looking forward to it since then. I think it's going to be good, too! Thank you for watching!

I signed up for Satori Reader's black Friday sale last year. I was just getting started with Japanese, so I couldn't get past the first 3 chapters of Kona's Big Adventure before giving up. However, they have a couple of super easy series called Human Japanese Extra Credit (beginner and intermediate). Even a beginner can get value from those two series. Each page is just a bunch of stand alone sentences, or in rare cases, groups of 2 to 4 related sentences. Anywhere from about 40 to 75 sentences per page, on a single theme or grammar point, with relatively clear audio, as well as a popup dictionary for every word or phrase. Doing a chapter or two per day can seem exhausting as a beginner, so it's several weeks' worth of content to get your feet wet.

I learned about Satori Reader in one of your other KZfaq videos. It's such a great app. I tell everyone who's studying Japanese to try it. The stories are great and you can select your readying level. It synchs to Wanikani so the kanji matches your level. It's hard to find adult level fiction content that matches the beginner to intermediate kanji level. Thanks for your review videos (apps and textbooks).

Getting through all of the stories on Satori Reader....Grats!!! I'm still reading through Akiko's Foreign Exchange and it really grew on me. It went from "Cool, its a journal/diary style format. Nice." to "What did she experience this time? Let's find out!" Now, I wonder how great the end will be for me when I get there since your S rating. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

Thanks for the recommendation and the discount reference. Just subscribed a few minutes ago after reading the first couple of chapters of 壁の穴, which is a really cute story so far. Really need some more reading practice with this great dictionary Satori offers before going back and trying to read 魔女の宅急便 again, as I only got through the first chapter of that before getting a bit frustrated that it was a little too high above my level to be enjoyable reading yet. I can read easier manga right now pretty decently, e.g. stuff like よつばと、からかい上手の高木さん、イジらないで長瀞さん、しろくまカフェ and so on but native novels were kicking my butt a bit so I hope to sharpen my skills reading stories on Satori for a while. Nice to get lots of listening practice on Satori too, because I definitely need it. Also バナナは悪くないと思う

I recently started using Satori Reader, really enjoying it so far! There's something that's been on my mind though, I'm not sure whether or not I should add all / most unknown words I come across to the reviews or not. I'm also using Wanikani, currently at level 18 and Bunpro. I'd say I'm somewhere halfway through N4 grammar. But I honestly really struggle with vocab now that I started reading. I've been thinking about using one of the 2k Anki decks to boost my vocab knowledge but I honestly can't motivate myself and find the time to do that in addition to WK, Bunpro and SR. Do you think, continuing like this, and relining on the SRS system that's built into SR is sufficient?
@pg5215
@pg5215 11 ай бұрын
Dude you’re overloading yourself with SRS. Vocabulary and grammar words are best learned in CONTEXT, which is what Satori reader does best. Reading is the #1 way to advance language knowledge. Forget the contextless 2k deck. Just read read read. If you want to noise go can, use the words from Satori that you actually saw in real completely fully fleshed out context 👍
@yannick_yt
@yannick_yt 11 ай бұрын
@@pg5215 @pg5215 yeah I've come to that conclusion as well, you're absolutely right. I still use SRS for Kanji (wanikani) but I gave up doing so much Anki. Thanks for your reply

Currently going through Genki, at which point/lesson can I start reading the easier stories on Satori Reader in your opinion?

In my opinion it will be difficult until your somewhere around Genki 2. When you FINISH Genki 2, the stories should really start making sense. You can still try to go through some stories even while on Genki 1, but it will be slow, just keep that in mind.

Ngl, kinda wish you'd have said more things about each story. Some of them you just blitz by- such as Kona's Big Adventure, Hole in the Wall, Neighbor, Fujiki, "I won't go into spoilers, but it's definitely good and worth checking out", with no further explanation. Many others, you describe vaguely the pros and cons, but they ring somewhat hollow since you never go into much detail about your criticisms. And there's plenty of non-spoilery ways people can describe why liked a particular story, so I feel like it would've been possible to talk about some of these stories in a little more depth than you did (especially since no other KZfaqr has talked about the actual stories in Satori Reader before)
