You're right. The first book was like a magical introduction into the Harry Potter world. Then the 2nd was kind of eh. Not bad but not very exciting. Thankfully they do get better.

Which also happens because they're clubbed together and most would opt for the Philosopher's Stone as that was where it all began. This leads to CoS not getting as much love and attention it deserves. Btw, CoS is one of my tops but I can definitely see where others as coming from...

I didn't get into HP until my 40's because my great-niece begged me to watch the 1st movie with her in 2005. As soon as I found out there were books I immediately started reading every one that was published at the time. Then I watched all the movies that were out. It became a thing that all 3 of my great-nieces and I did together as they grew up. By tbe time the last movie came out the youngest one was old enough to watch the movies and understand what was happening. My sister and I and all 3 girls went to see the last movie in the theater. 1, 3 and 6 are my top 3 books while 1, 3 and 5 are my favorite movies. You're right about COS. Out of 7 awesome books it's at the bottom of the list for me.

That makes me feel so much better! Definitely didn’t dislike COS, but it just didn’t feel as magical as book 1. Book 3 is picking up where book 1 left off though, I’d say! Thanks so much for sharing your experience with the books and movies! 😁

I think the reason why CoS is so commonly the least favorite book/movie is because it is often clubbed with the first one, and majority (not me though) would prefer the first one as it is the introduction to the wondrous world. The first, I feel was more so, information heavy as we discovered everything with Harry, which felt more magical. The 2nd one however was more story heavy and all important information was directly tied into the story. It also for a bit tarnished the image of Hogwarts as we see how dangerous it had become, maybe that's why it's commonly not as loved. Anyway, it was fun seeing different opinions about different books and how often they can contradict mine, but I still get where they're coming from... Sorry for long drawn paragraph but I had to defend one of my top books/movies.

Chamber of Secrets has a slightly different feel to the rest of the books, imo. It's almost like a whodunit? Agatha Christie novel than a fantasy story- there are quite a few breadcrumbs suggesting different people (even Percy) might be the culprit, and (presuming you've finished the series by now) there's serveral key things that first appear in this book that will become more important later- the diary, the vanishing cabinet, the hand of glory...

Being an avid Harry Potter fan I totally agree with your view on „Chamber of Secrets“ - for me, it is definitely the weakest book in the series. The fact that the fuzzy homey feeling Harry has about Hogwarts definitely gets a bit spoiled in his second year when people think he is the heir of Slytherin for a while might have something to do with it. But the details of the second book will be very important further on, keep that in mind. The second movie is one of my favourite though, funnily enough! :-) But I am so looking forward seeing your video on „The Prisoner of Azkaban“ as this is my absolutely favourite book of the series! I so so so love the third book! Bets wishes from Germany and happy reading

I would say everyone's favorite character to hate is Umridge lmao ilespecially book umbridge. You'll find she's way worse in the books.

Just finished sorcerer stone a week ago and about half way through chamber of secrets my self, love the movies but never read the books so I’m certainly going to take my time and enjoy the ride

Yes, Chamber is the least favorite book in the series for most (?), but every time I reread CoS I end up laughing out loud because of Lockhart. He's HILARIOUS. _Harry, Harry, Harry._

For me is my least favorite book, the first one is introductory to the character and the world of HP, but this book has very important information for the whole series, this more a misteriy book,
