For me it’s not just the word p*ssy, it’s the context. I find a lot of authors will have an old fashioned fantasy setting and then using only use words like that during sex scenes. It’s like following a medieval knight and then in one scene he starts calling people dude, it doesn’t fit. I feel like we’re all really lacking in the language around sex that isn’t from modern porn.

@@kenzashenna Weirdly enough fuck is kinda a ancient word. You can find it going back to Shakespeares times and I have to be honest I am not a history person apart from knowing that it seems to be in common use then as its not explained in the plays its used in. I have know idea how much further back it goes. It’s funny. I think because we think of it as ‘ bad’ we think of it as new but it really isn’t. Even weirder Shakespeare has joke in Henry V about a pun with not only fuck but also should I just say ‘See you next Tuesday’ (I didn’t think I’d be aloud to put that word in the comments), but that is a word I definitely put in the modern category I would never think that it would be used by a man like Shakespeare.

As someone who's been reading books like these for over a decade, I'm *very* happy that it seems like more erotica writers nowadays are making it a point to mention or show enthusiastic consent in their books. I think that's super important because too many books have these quite frankly rape-y sounding scenes thinking it sounds hot, when really it just sounds like someone's two seconds away from getting SA'd. Even if Katee's prose itself isn't that great, I def appreciate it.

From the sounds of things, this version of Hades actually comes closer to matching the depiction of the original myths better than most adaptations. For some reason, every media adaptation of Greek Myths casts Hades as a villain, when in the myths, he’s not really all that evil, just gloomy and not a lot of fun to be around. In other words, Hades is the original emo.
@bluester7177

For Hades being meaner comment. Well, in the original mythology he's kinda just a dude, even in the most crude versions. Out of the OG brothers he's the nicest guy, depending on the versions of the myth he never cheated on Perse, which says a lot already (glares at Zeus' "imma fuck everything that breathes" cheating ass). He got a villain reputation just bc he's looking over the "death place", but he's really not one. Like he's very reasonable and forgiving, take Orpheus' myth for example. Anyway, i'm a Hades defender through and through, my man got done dirty, Zeus has always been the real villain

Well their start is very not good, he kidnaps and r-words persephone. The story is even called the grape of persephone. He sees persephone goes to her father to ask if he can have her(happens alot back in the days.) and he is like yah you can. Instead of asking what persephone wants, he opens a crack in the earth to swallow her. Then is like your my wife now and He doesn't let her go home even though she wants to go back to her mom and then when Zeus was like I know I said you could marry her but you gotta give her back to her mom. She is literally protesting. He was like okay and then tricks persephone to eating the seeds to force/bind her to come back to her for a few months of the year.

Zeus is a cheater in the myths I will not deny that but to call actual religions justice god an villain isn't right. When not focusing on the cheating (some of those myths from are from people that wanted to slander the name of the religion) that Zeus is very often the guy that steps in and goes you guys chill out, here is a compromise. Or punishes corrupt powerful people. Like that wealthy guy that kept on killing his guests in their sleep. when he turns a king and his sons to werewolf because they fuckin killed and cooked one of the other sons and served it to Zeus. Yah Hades was villainized because of Christianity hell is a bad thing so hades must be like Satan!!! He doesn't even kill the people. it's like you don't say your management's name or they might show up. XD thats poor thanatos's job. (He once got locked in a chest for a few days. Which was a problem cuz no one could die for as long as he was trapped.) but he isn't the soft bot that people like to make him out to be.
@Prowitchhazel
@Prowitchhazel Ай бұрын
@@noname-kx4cu in that time and place, Hades wouldn’t have needed Persephone’s permission to marry her; he just needed Zeus’ (as her father), which he got. Also, it’s very important to note that the meaning of the word rape has changed meaning/severity over the centuries since the myth has first written down. For example, marriage and kidnapping were basically synonymous in Ancient Greece, hence why the Trojans had to acknowledge Helen as Paris’ wife when he kidnapped her from her original husband (despite them both previously being married to other people). Otherwise they would have just returned her to the Greeks. Long story short, Hades is the most moral of his god brothers by the standards of the time.

She primarily writes m/m historical romance, but also has a filthy m/f book, and a ton of books with supernatural and fantasy elements. My personal favorite is The Secret Casebook of Simon Feximal, because ghosts and gothic spookiness. And good news, she loves plot! She also seems like a pretty good person based on her social media, and often includes discussions on class and race in her books instead of sweeping them aside in favor of the fantasy of "the good ole days". One more thing: The Perfect Crimes of Marian Hayes by Cat Sebastian is soft, spicy, and involves a dominant woman absolutely having her way with the sunshine male lead. And one of my random KU recent reads had a small *vibrator* scene, from the pov of a male in a females body and discuss consent through a body swap... yes, there's swapped 🎉😂 It was called The Toss Up, can't remember the author, sry.

Not a booktok book but Hunger Pangs: True Love Bites Flirting With Fangs Edition. Author wrote a sexy Funtime version and a fluffy no sex version of the book and intends to do so with the whole trilogy. This is her debut novel. There is polyamory in it, but the first sex scene is just between the two male leads. Their lovely lady pops up now and then but she doesn’t meet them till the last half of the book. It’s fantasy, got Jane Austen vibes, and has a plot and some fun world building

I was just about to type something on that - I tried the first book and just finished it today and it is shockingly sweet, reflective, and insightful. When the spice started, I actually found myself going 'aww, good for y'all!' which... was unexpected that a sex scene would actually warm my heart, but very welcome.

@@ReadswithRachelI loved this book…that said I do almost regret reading it. It’s the darkest book I’ve ever read content wise. The child abuse is why I almost regret reading it…all the terrible things possible happen to Anna. Just a warning that there is fetal abuse/death, etc. I know you’ve said before that you don’t read books with miscarriages. So I just wanted to warn you. :)

Very much not the book for my Ace self, but I loved your recap and review of it as they always make me chuckle. Absolutely agree on the audiobook readings making me cringe (though major respect for the attempt, it's not a job I could do with a straight face). I also find it hilarious that Zeus dies from falling out of a window since in mythology he's the ruler of the sky.

I absolutely love that you used the Disney Hades in this video and once again you are a comedic genius. I wish I had some spicy recs to give, I'm just now getting back into romance, lol. I will say that I personally think the second book in this series (Electric Idol) is the best one! If you decide to get into monster spice, definitely try the Duskwalker Brides books.😅

I started on the Audio of this and had a really hard time since the narrators were British but the were writing text that was so clearly written by an American (slang, key word choice differences, etc). I also found the spicy scenes kind Meh, but I was invested enough in the actual narrative to finish (I’m weak for anything Greek mythology related)

This rant felt so strange, it sounded to me like Virgin Crisis, a 2000 erotica manga, where the main girl summons the devil himself by accident trying to cast a spell to atract her mortal crush. Of course she fells for the devil and he has the same attitude as Hades, he takes her to hell, trains her to do what he loves in bed (but still being kinda gentle) and when they fight, threats her to do it with her in the Sabbath in front of every demon and witch. Maybe the author knows it and took some inspo. Mayu Shinjo is a master of the smut and erotica for women from the early 2000
