Kelty almost had a homerun with their Rumpus 4 tent, but there's one main issue that's holding it back. In this video I'll give you my non-sponsored review of the tent, show you what's included, walk you through the set-up process, a full tour of the tent, we'll talk pros/cons, and then we'll get into who should (or shouldn't) buy this tent.

Good review, I looked into this tent and decided for the NTK Indy, the rainfly has reflective material and a squirt around the tent, I camp mostly in the Sierras and this helps with cold weather, the vestibule is very comparable but in my opinion easier to pitch since I camp solo with my 2 dogs. That doesn’t mean I don’t like Kelty, I have other products from them and been very pleased, just not this one. Thanks for the video.

I really like the design, but the water leak is a show stopper for me. Thanks for the review.

So to clarify your only leak issue was through the vent and not through the seams or materials of the tent?

I was torn on the Wawona 6 vs the Rumpus 6, went with the Wawona for a ridiculous sale price right before Thanksgiving. Looks like I made a good choice, although like you said I wonder if that problem was fixed on the Rumpus 6. Thanks for the video.

a bit off topic but... where did you get your hat? l want to buy it for my husband. On topic; I wish Kelty would bring back the Outback. That was the best budget tent I ever owned and I would likely still use it if not for my own neglect which left it moldy. and Kelty's fiberglass poles are much more durable and larger than the flimsy fiberglass crap on Coleman or Ozark Trail tents.

Hey would you be willing to do a video on lanterns and camp lighting sometime?

Hey Casey - good question. Honestly, I’ve got a backlog of other videos to do, so I probably won’t make it to that one soon. Figured you’d rather get an honest response than none at all. Thanks for watching :)

Why are vestibules so awesome? I’ve always thought they’re just annoying to set up and don’t do much. Tell me more :) Also that many guide wires sounds like a tripping hazard.

Lol - fair questions: 1. Vestibules are like “tent porch’s”. Extra rain protected storage and/or air space. I think that’s very cool, especially if you don’t have any trees or other shelter at your campsite. I love vestibules. 2. Guy lines can definitely be tripping hazards. Some have reflective tape/paint on them. You can also add reflective or glowing stuff after market. But, you need at least some of them for pretty much every tent, so I can’t really fault a tent for having a plethora.

Guy lines are not an issue if you get reflective paracord , most tents you’d have to upgrade the stakes and change the paracord if you want to not trip on it, also helps if you have a headlamp and don’t get shitfaced so you’re coherent while walking at night . Just common sense. Vestibules were originally to store some gear while backpacking and in this size will keep you out of the rain being able to carefully boil water for a meal and track less mud inside.

I have the T3 (older model) and the T4, if you McGiver the Kelty backroads using its height is not difficult at all and you’re adding a huge vestibule to the Gazelle where you can sit comfortably on a rainy day having coffee and watch everyone else scramble inside their tiny tent. Lol.
