Holy freakin' moly man... I love hearing the contrast between the unmixed / mixed sections of the cover. It makes it clear that you can't just throw the sounds together. That's an art. Your personal connection with the song really showed in the cover. I got goosebumps

Man, firstly, I'm so sorry about your friend. Dedicating this incredible video to him is a beautiful, beautiful eulogy. Your opening up and being vulnerable just displays all the love you have for your friend and for the music of Hozier, and how meaningful it is to you. Totally respect that. I'm not familiar with Hozier's music, but if he treats his music like you treated the production and the covering of the song, I must surely will check him out. Once again, thank you for an outstanding video.

I've got a be honest, I know I've heard a few of his songs but I'm not that familiar with Hozier as an artist. That said this is a pretty incredible feat you have pulled off. 130 tracks just seems insane for what sounds to be a pretty simple song but the end result speaks for itself. Your story of running into him is pretty awesome as well. This is some of the best content on YT and I'm really enjoying it. Well done.

I’m always amazed by these videos. It’s so impressive how much time and energy you put into figuring out just what goes into a song, and simultaneously how accessible you make it seem. I don’t have the majority of the things/people you used in this video-I own three microphones, two guitars, one amplifier, one bass, I use GarageBand, and I play and sing all parts myself. But even beyond the expensive gear that I don’t have the funds for at the moment, there’s still a lot of recording and mixing tips that are useful to me. Like, I’d never heard of parallel compression. And I never realized that a dynamic mic was better for loud vocals. Those things are going to serve me VERY well on my next project. You and I seem to have very similar tastes in music, and I tend to wear my influences on my sleeve in a pretty big way. So being able to learn about the way my favorite artists’ songs are made is genuinely super helpful for my own music. Beyond wanting to sound “good” or “marketable” or whatever, I want to make music that sounds like the music I love, so that people like me have more music to love. Holy shit this is such a long comment, I’m so sorry. If you take one thing away from my wall of text, let it be this: Thank you so much for these videos, please keep making them as long as they’re sustainable for you to do.

As far as the final product goes, I'm so inspired by how well it turned out. I'd love to watch a video by you about parallel processing. First of all incredible videos. These videos where you break down recording techniques of artists are mind-blowing to me and the amount of work that goes into them is astounding. All the performances here really captured the uniqueness and grandness of movement especially in the last part. Hozier also means a lot to me and although I haven't met him in person I've only seen him live I still have a similar relationship to him and his music in that it means so much to me and has gotten me through really hard times. Your mixing is really top notch and makes me wonder if you've done a lot of other professional work outside of KZfaq before hand cus it sure sounds like it. When I bring up the original track and play it back and forth with yours it sounds spot on. The only thing I'd do differently is bring up the bass and kick a bit more. The original recording has a lot more bass and low end in the kick also around 300 - 400 hz in the "boxy" region the original mix didn't shy away from it. Also the bass is very present especially throughout the loud section at the end I feel like your bass kind of melts away. But I'm also a bass player and always love sub sounds at concerts and loud bass in recordings so maybe im hearing things. But all in all really liked the video and these videos have really inspired me in times when it's felt like I don't have enough energy to work on music cus im working too much or I just wanna come home and chill. Then a video of yours pops up and it gets me whipping out my bass and recording some baselines or drums, so thank you!

Thanks for the kind words Cameron! And yeah definitely noted on the bass, funnily enough I cut a lot of sub out of the master right before publishing this video because I thought the kick may have been a bit boomy, maybe I should have left it as is hahah, glad you enjoy the vid dude!

Of all songs/singers this one in particular was such a bold and difficult choice, that, regardless of the results, it deserves a lot of respect. Not only the process is so well documented but the result is incredible - I still can't believe how huge and beautiful the final part sounds. There is so much in that video... thank you for making it and please keep going, this is a real inspiration!

Hey, that was really beautiful and I was not expecting to get emotional, but yeah. Well done, super informative. Didn't hold hands. This is great. I love material for the intermediate to advanced crowd. It inspires me to try new stuff. I have a suggestion for a quick topic to cover from this. You said a few times that dynamic mics get less room sound, and I've heard that a lot, but it's been my experience that it's more the size of the diaphragm and the amount of compression. I did a quick google and I've not seen a readily available demo of this. At least, not one that came up easily. Wanna test the theory? I'd appreciate it. Again, not even a Hozier fan, really. I just respect him and came here to learn, and very quickly subscribed.

def interested in that video- as a musician who needs to learn to record themselves, reminders to just try and that talent vs fancy magic room is really helpful. I have just watched 3 of your videos and am really hoping you have some beginner info as I've never found an easy to listen to person about tackling my lack of skills and you speak calmly and in a way I can at least try to understand. Thank you.
