L’Oréal is the parent company of many brands including Redken ,L’Oréal Pro ,Kersatase and L’Oréal Paris. Most products use similar ingredients since they are manufactured in the same facilities. Also the same scientists work on most formulas.😊

So true, but people don't want to believe it. The massive advertising budgets for expensive hair products convince people that they're different and better than drugstore products. I've never used high end hair products, and I'm pretty sure my hair hasn't suffered for it.

I decided to switch to unscented shampoo and conditioner last summer. I tried the Vanicream products, but I didn't care for the shampoo although the conditioner was great! I'm currently using the Paula's Choice shampoo and conditioner. I never use a clarifying shampoo; I don't feel I need one. When I go to my stylist, I figure the products she uses remove any buildup on my hair. I wish it were easier to find fragrance free products, and I wish they weren't more expensive!

I was a die hard loyal user of the Davines Oi Oil, but it's very heavy and expensive. I've switched to the OGX line of oils. I find the serum oil is light, but the nourishing spray is even lighter. I spray it in my hand and apply it that way. I also have fine textured hair.

Hi Jen! Thank you so much for all of this research and info. I had some roll on castor oil around (had bought it on Amazon for something else.) and used it on my hair for finishing and conditioning. My hair is dry, especially the ends. It works better than any hair oil I've ever used. It's sticky, so it seems counterintuitive but it sinks in and my hair looks great. Gets rid of frizz and dry hair (frizz). I have thin, fine wavy hair.

I have really curly frizzy hair and absolutely love the L'Oreal Elvive Extraordinary masks, I alternate between the normal one and the purple one to tone my bleach bits. I use the masks as a conditioner. Also the Extraordinary oil - I've used both the coconut one and the nourishing 5 flower oil one and prefer that one and the smell is phenomenal, it's great to freshen up my dry hair between washes. I also think that the Elvive purple shampoo is one of the bests for toning.

I did find a shampoo that I’ve been loving because it makes my hair soft and shiny without stripping it-it’s the Odele smoothing formula shampoo that’s sold at Ulta. Hi Jen I love your content! Have you tried the Mise en Scene hair oil before? There is a scent to thier hair serums(oils) I believe but they are not overwhelming and they smell really nice. It is a Korean brand that does their hair serums since I was a kid as I remembered, and they are SO affordable. I believe they are widely accessible on sites if you shop from the US. The oils are very moisturzing and not greasy if you use a proper amount. I personally like these oils much better than the Moroccanoil. The Moroccanoil is called oil but not enough conditioning for my dry hair. The "serums" are more nourrishing. I hope you find it helpful. I really enjoyed your videos especially the skincare ones and hope to see more.

Thank you, Jen, duping your luxury hair products - I will be trying some of those. I get it…pricey high-end hair care can put a quick dent 😱 in our beauty budgets - I stock up from BF until Christmas from the company websites or Sephora for the year. That said, I do love my Oribe and since I have dry curly (3b/c) hair I also love LUS Brand products - actually the only shampoo and conditioner that doesn’t have me replaying my childhood shampoos with my Mom saying your like my little lamb! 😂🥰 For hair finishing oils I do like Verb, Wen, Moroccanoil, Briogeo, and Aussie (be careful with too much or fine hair!). But favorite oil by a landslide is Oribe Gold Lust Nourishing Hair Oil. Oh, and I love Suave Daily Clarifying Shampoo but only about once a week.

I have very fine, thin hair that gets dry on the ends but super greasy in the scalp area and one of my favorite shampoo and conditioner I've been using for year is the Suave professionals Rosemary and mint, it in the green bottles. It supposed to be a dupe for something, it says on the bottle. Anyways, it's nice and clarifying and the conditioner is just right amount of richness. Not too much but just enough. The smell is awesome too. I use it once a week and then a nourishing shampoo on my next washing. I find alternating my shampoo and conditioner products works best. Kristin Ess makes some great products. Some of them are even unscented. I don't need them to be, but some of the regular line is a bit strong for me.

My 2 favorite drugstore hair products are eva nyc 10 in 1 mane magic primer. I go through 5 a year! Marc Anthony strictly curls defining lotion helps my hair stay in nice waves (started waving as i got older) . I color my hair and live in high humidity. Mid range product that replaced my Kenra luxe leave in platinum is the La-Brasiliana All In One

Have you ever tried pure jojoba oil on your hair? I've never tried the Ghost Oil, myself, but I have used the Curl Smith Shine Oil, which many people say is even lighter (naturally, I can't attest to it myself) and it is very comparable to that. Also, it is supposedly the most similar to the natural oil produced by our scalp and can safely be used elsewhere on the body. Btw, I have very fine, low damage hair, so it is easy to weigh down and while I wouldn't say my hair is particularly dry, per se, when left to its own devices it takes days to look or feel oily even at the scalp.

I loved OUTRAGOUS by Revlon. I was so in love with the scent. I think we're the exact same age. Thanks for mentioning L'Oreal Paris EverPure Sulfate Free Bond Repair Color Care though. I can't get any of the other products in Canada. Sadly, the L'Oreal is sold out ATM, but at least I know about it.

Hi! Thanks for the video. Have you tried Revolution Hair R-Peptide 4x4 Leave-in Restore Mask? It's worth a shot for a bond repair dupe. I use it and I like it, but a little goes a long way with it. Would love to hear your thoughts if you try it.

For the past few weeks I've been using the Redken All soft Shampoo and conditioner and I am experiencing dry, very easily tangled hair. It could be that I live in a state with very hard water, it could be the dryer weather. All I know is that every time I've used high end, salon products, I never see a noticeable difference in hair health. Not to mention that salon grade hair products have gotten so expensive. 30 dollars for just a shampoo is beyond ridiculous when these products truly dont perform miracles. I've come across people who have gorgeous hair and they use the cheapest thing. Genetics also play a huge role in hair health, I'm convinced of that.

Hi Jen, thanks for the video. You're making a very important point here which I think many people don't understand. Hair products at all price points have very similar ingredients and formulations; comparing ingredients lists shows this. It's really not necessary to spend money on expensive hair products. Speaking to this, I want to add that the first ingredient in the Ghost Hair Oil at $20 for 2 oz. - $10 per ounce!!! - is cyclopentasiloxane, which is a moisturizer. There's nothing in the product to justify the shocking price. That said, if you want to keep using it, that's your choice of course. But I hope you can find something less expensive that works for you. And you're definitely better off not using the Ouai Detox Shampoo. The second ingredient in it, after water, is sodium C14-16 olefin sulfonate, which is a harsh cleansing agent. My products...I have dry, fine, wavy, colored hair. Last summer I switched to unscented shampoo and conditioner. I tried the Vanicream products, and I didn't like the shampoo although the conditioner was great. I'm currently using the Paula's Choice shampoo and conditioner. Before that, I used the Suave Keratin Infusion Color Care shampoo and conditioner; the products come in a couple of different scents, and I don't remember which one I used. For styling products, I use the John Frieda Frizz Ease Serum, Dream Curls mousse, and Secret Weapon Touch Up Creme.
