Maybe consider making some steel brackets for the hardware to mount to? Those screws looked awfully close to the edge. It's an absolute beauty, though!

Sooo, keep the tailgate for the structure of it, cutting away everything but say 2" on the sides and bottom and leave the top open like a ~U~ filling in the rest of it with the wood slab. I bet it would last a lot longer and show off your skills with the ability just to do something like that wood get you the respect of real woodworkers!. That my friend, is custom woodworking. Anyone can cut up a slab of wood, not everyone can do custom s**t like incorporating into the tailgate though! lol You got this!

That slab is definitely an eye grabber. Then people will see your company info on the truck. Be prepared for customers calling in asking for this on their trucks
