In this latest installment of my Restoring the Trash Kingdom series, I attempted to restore and rebuild the vintage LEGO Castle Set 6081: King's Mountain Fortress.
Originally released in 1990, this set has it all. Knights, a Maiden / Princess, Horses, Dungeons, Ghosts, and even a Parrot!
As always, you'll also see the continuing stop-motion adventures of the residents of the Trash Kingdom.
I hope you enjoy watching this one because I had a great time making it!
(also sorry for the delay!)

Hey guys! I forgot to mention this in the video, but what do you think of the set? Would you add it to your own collection? How many goats would you give it?

As an owner of an admittedly half built kings mountain fortress, I declare that it is an annoying build, and the really short walls sitting on top of the plate look goofy. Past that, tis a decent set, and a good introduction to raised baseplates. This was the first set Lego ever produced with a raised baseplate iirc

@@flambo6554 I agree this was an annoying build! But I think the castle walls aren't too bad. I'm pretty sure El Dorado Fortress came out a year before this one. It had the same baseplate, but with a different print. I'd love to pick it up someday to display next to this one.

Your videos are always such a joy! The stop motions are wonderful, you put so much care into them. And I appreciate the shout-out, you can simply call me Toast if you'd like. I couldn't help but notice a few more pieces that caught my eye, for starters the river raised baseplate at 0:05 is definitely from the Amazon Ancient Ruins. Such a great set, I hope to have one of my own someday but that $500 price tag sure is something. You might have 5936 Spider’s Secret as well, since Pippin Reed has her backpack on in your previous video, but all those figs came in so many sets it's hard to tell without the pieces. I also spotted some interesting castle wall pieces that I looked up on Bricklink. You have a black wall with printed stones variant that's exclusive to the Black Monarch's Castle, which excitedly confirms my previous suspicions. I also noticed a single black panel 6 x 6 x 6 corner with window in your bin, which is exclusive to and confirms the Royal Knight's Castle! Finally, the black corner wall with printed stones is interesting. It appears not only in the black monarch's castle but also 6078 Royal Drawbridge, which you just happen to have all the figs for and might be worth looking into later on. I also happened to spot an elusive 8x8 brick, which I learned are pretty common in the old Ninja theme. The old light grey one is apparently exclusive to 6089 Stone Tower Bridge, which is pretty neat.

Thanks Toast, and wow you've got a sharp eye! I'm currently gathering all the pieces for the Amazon Ancient Ruins set as well as the Black Monarch's Castle, and luckily it looks like I have most of the pieces for those 2 sets. And yes, that $500 price tag for the Adventurers set is ridiculous! Unfortanatly It looks like I'm missing the baseplate for the Royal Knights Castle, so I'll have to pick that up off bricklink at some point. I didn't know that I might have 5936, 6078, and 6089, so I'll definetly check and see. Thanks again for the tips!

That saddle was on backwards. Apart from that: an amazing job. Animation is superb and it's always so funny to watch. Thanks a lot! I didn't know that this set was featuring a connector, but it means you can connect it with all the older small wall section sets to create a huge guarded village. Nice.
@DingoBricks
@DingoBricks Ай бұрын
Thanks! Yes, I didn’t realize the saddle was backwards until someone pointed it out 😅. I didn’t know it had the connector before either! For some reason I thought they didn’t have the modular system until the Harry Potter sets came out. I’m looking forward to making a super castle once I finish rebuilding all the sets from this haul.

@@DingoBricks all classic castle sets have connectors to form huge castles. Even the tiny ghost house 6034. The Creator castle has a new version of connectors, but even that box is meant to be bought in a pack of three and all three versions can be connected for a large castle with a real hightower and some shops and a windmill. Since i like both, old and new, i simply made two small wall sections with classic connectors on one side and the new version on the other side (and vice versa for the second wall). This way, i can combine them all together. At least, once i have built all my classic sets again. Might take a while since i'm still in the process of sorting through my son's Legos (who hasn't touched them in years). Three large IKEA boxes, a long way to go...

Thanks! Yeah, my current set up is pretty rickety. 😅 Right now I’m just shooting everything with my phone I just ordered a new magic arm mount and I’m looking at upgrading my camera at some point. I think my first step is going to be figuring out the remote camera option in stop motion studio though. Also I think I need to get some LED lights, I’m noticing the white balance changes so much between my shots right now.

Cool one! the kidnapper's "little" mistake made me laugh! I didn't see it coming! When you use Hydrogen Peroxide, at 4:33 I think it would be better to face to the sun the part you want the most clean. The decomposition reaction is catalyzed by the UVs from sunlight. You can also use an UV light.
@DingoBricks
@DingoBricks Ай бұрын
Thanks! I ran out of hydrogen peroxide and it wouldn’t cover the baseplate if I put it facing towards the sun. I didn’t want to dilute it too much, by adding more water, but I agree it wasn’t an ideal set up. I’m going to look into getting a if light in the future

@@DingoBricks I never used hydrogen peroxide outside at home, I have no experience to use it to clean lego, but I would be cautious with printed parts facing sun. becarfull with the UV light, UVs can damage eyes, and avoid exposure to your skin...

Ok, seeing the Maiden doing the Naruto run was epic! I wasn't familiar with this set, but seeing the finished product, I agree they did a good job making it look "big" with so few pieces. The raised molded baseplate literally doing all the heavy lifting on that, of course. I love the maiden figure and black falcon, but I think I'd give the set 4 Goats overall (love the new system, BTW). Congrats on the new sorting/storage drawers. I've recently been inspired (by your channel and others) to pull my old LEGO out of storage. When I packed it away decades ago I had all my pieces from a hundred+ sets loose in a couple large tubs... So I've had to do a lot of sorting. I've completed my 6091 King Leo's Castle, and I've just re-gathered all the parts for 6090 Royal Knight's Castle (but haven't had time to assemble it). Sadly I don't have your 6081 to experience that, but after 6090 I've got 6076 Dark Dragon's Den and a bunch of other smaller sets, then I'll tackle my space sets. Anyway, another great video. I look forward to the next adventure!

I don’t know why, but I just love making these Lego mini figs Naruto run 😂. 4/5 goats is still a solid score. Glad you like the new system! Watching Lego KZfaq videos is what made me start looking for vintage lego too. Be careful, it’s a slippery slope, before you know it you might end up making your own KZfaq channel. That’s what happened to me lol. Those are some great sets! had to look up 6076. I definitely need to keep an eye out for some Dragon Knights sets to add to my collection. I love those old green dragons

@@DingoBricks I have both the old green and black dragon (both with the trans orange wings). I only wish I'd've got the Oriental Dragon from that era to complete that set. That blasted thing goes for $100 or more, which is outside my current expense budget. I've thought about making a channel, but it's just not something I have time for... Maybe "someday", as you say, it's a slippery slope. Heh.

I have no experience with de-yellowing myself, so don't take my word on this, but I have heard from others who have had personal experience with hydrogen peroxide that pieces treated with it will re-yellow even worse later Just thought I'd warn you. How do you like the craft drawer as a way to store your bricks? I’ve been thinking of getting something of that caliber to store my own bricks!
@DingoBricks
@DingoBricks Ай бұрын
So far so good! These Michael’s drawers are definitely lower quality than the IKEA Alex drawers that many people use for their collection, but with the sale these were way cheaper at about $100 each. The only problem I’ve seen is a few drawers get stuck when closing them, but I might be able to fix that with some adjustments. Also I don’t think they’re going to be a complete solution to my organization problems. I think I’ll be pairing them with some plastic sterilite drawers that I already have. Either way, I’ll post an update in my next video once I’ve had them a bit longer 🙂
