This week I have decided to fully restore this super yellow Sony Playstion 1 entertainment system.
First, I remove 6 security screws from the base to allow me to separate the two halves then once inside I can start to take it apart properly.
I then washed the plastics in soapy water to remove all grime and grease in preparation for the next step which was to soak them in Hydrogen peroxide H2o2 12% and UV light for several days to remove the years of yellowing that has taken place, This process is also known as retr0brite.
I also cleaned the boards from dust and with isopropyl alcohol.

I show you how to remove the yellowing from vintage plastics with the Retr0bright method.
How to Restore a Yellow Playstion 1 the Easy Way
This video will show you how to make your yellowed PS1 look almost new again.
Coat the plastic in hydrogen peroxide to fix discoloration. Hydrogen peroxide works well on plastics that have turned entirely yellow instead of in just one spot. Fill a plastic bag with enough hydrogen peroxide to cover the plastic. Stick the plastic in the bag of hydrogen peroxide and lay it out in direct sunlight. Wait 3-4 hours before rinsing it off with clean water.[5]
You can purchase hydrogen peroxide at a drugstore or big box store.
If you’re treating some sort of plastic mechanism, make sure you remove all the parts that aren’t plastic before putting them into the hydrogen peroxide.
You can also use an old toothbrush to scrub the hydrogen peroxide onto the plastic if desired

I mean, they all dirty these things themselves. Do you think all these refurb channels find tons of consoles that function normally except for, seemingly, laying in a pile of manure for 20 years?! No. They find old but mostly working consoles, throw some mud all over them and then clean them on video. At most they'll need a few capacitors or a new disc drive motor. Bare bones stuff.

@@DannyWilliamH While that is true for many, there are a handful of good channels in my opinion. One of them being “Odd Tinkering”. Dude gets his stuff seemingly off eBay or thrift shops like I do (I do this stuff as a hobby). There is another channel but their name is blanking on me. They work on a bunch of lots like PS4’s and Xbox Ones. If you can find the channels that do this stuff as an actual living, then their videos are legit

I actually have two PS1s. One is still clean and functional. The other used to be my sister in law's and she never used it in years until she found it recently and it's really yellow and dirty. I'm thinking about cleaning it myself and selling it online

There's a solution you can mix yourself but it's easier and cheaper to use Salon Care 40 Volume Cream. You can coat the plastic with it and then wrap it in plastic wrap, then put it in direct sunlight for a few hours. But the UV light is a lot easier.

До сих пор вспоминаю видос индусов, где у них пыль в ПК забралась даже в жёсткий диск, откуда они ее вычищали. А самое интересное, что они это потом типа запустили и у них 30-ти летний пк оказался на 775 сокете с 10 виндой, но вообще на i7 четвертого поколения. В общем я понял, что ничего не понял.

Hi I have a fat one and did not start until I push that sensor at the corner or put something above it for little help of pushing more. So, I am thinking my green board is dirty or something like that. Is that ok to spray it with alcohol 91% without taking off the screws inside the console ! And how much time does it take to be dry?

Dunno why but painting this Brown won't be so bad. Makes it feel like it's made out of Wood. Even better if you have a TV which looks like it's made out of Wood and it's 4:3 Ratio. I really dunno which TV is the best one for Older games like Resident Evil and it'll be Fullscreen.
