Music theory will shave lots of time off to get where you want to be. If you join the discord I can send you a playlist with videos that have some basic music theory and youtube channels that you can browse to learn even more. I can also suggest some more videos for you. Just ping or dm me on alex moukala's discord my user name is zekronz. Unless you already know lots of music theory already.

Guys totally listen to Alex advice when it comes to what he says about haters and music elitists. I did not even give music a chance because I was told several times that I can't make music since I can't play instruments or know music theory. I have tried a lot of stuff musically, singing, learning instruments, composing etc and I was discouraged a lot by other people, people that were close to me, like I can't even count on my fingers how much and eventually I gave up on music, during that time it felt like I was giving up on music forever. I've been taken music seriously for around 2 years now I think (some things I couldn't foresee and had to take long breaks now and then) and my improvement is huge, the only bad thing is that I started this music journey 20 years later because I listened to other people. There is a lot of improvement that I still need to make but my music is much more listenable. Do what you love and encourage people to do the same, Alex Moukala actually encouraged me to start my music journey, his tutorials and attitude inspired me.

I’m a classical guitarist, i have studied harmonization, orchestration etc. I’m totaly agree with you. Computer is a new instrument, you cannot learn it in conservatory, not yet. You and other musician open a new way and it’s only the beginning of a revolution. All the great composers did the synthese between popular, folk music and science. You are one of them. Keep the faith, there is always haters. Without haters, no lovers.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts on elitism/gatekeeping and your drive to help anyone make music. I'm not exactly one of those people who openly hates but I have found myself with a sort of superiority complex (even though my music is terrible). In fact I clicked on this video not with the expectation to learn but to hear 'bad' tracks from people I wouldn't consider 'composers'. I guess it all stems from a competitive nature and a place of insecurity, which is not the lens through which I want to make and experience music. But it is hard to let go of, because if anyone can make music, maybe that 'unique' part of me that breathes life into a piece of music isn't all that special after all..

I like epic music and I've been listening to it for a long time but to be honest, I grew a bit tired of it lately and I think it's mostly because of the constant hits and bass drops (don't know the right term, maybe you understand what I mean). I now appreciate more tracks that don't have that or only a bit for occasional accent. Btw the trailer that I love the most and still gives me chills is Man of Steel - Official Trailer #2 which uses such music, not even written for a trailer. But the visual is also a big part of it of course. Do you think more trailers could be made like that one?
@AlexMoukala4 жыл бұрын
That is one of the many reasons why I much prefer Japanese Soundtracks over epic music when it comes to Orchestral stuff. Two of my many favorites: -> kzfaq.info/get/bejne/eblndbBmx5alZo0.html -> kzfaq.info/get/bejne/o9CJacSoqNiWj5c.html
@elistewart86654 жыл бұрын
I completely agree man! When I first got into music I loved Hans Zimmer and that epic style but realized it could get repetitive, now years later I've learned to love modern classical music (the past 100 years or so) and can see that music can be so much more sophisticated! I'm not saying epic music isn't sophisticated, it's very technical for sure, but I mean in a sense of passion and emotion represented through many different means :)
@cartercox95824 жыл бұрын
Yes, I think "epic music" is way better when it creates its own character, charm or identity through interesting melodies and instrument choices. Too much of it sounds samey which is such a shame.

I started writing music when I was about 14 and then stopped at 27. Now I'm 33 and I have not composed for 6 years and I have lost a part of me. T_T Wrote over 1000 songs (most not complete of course). I always liked what I wrote, but I never was able to make it sound convincing. I think sometimes you should have the right tools. The tools will let you have a proper launchpad to let your creativity flow. I really should get back to writing...

Hey Alex, I was watching one of your vods and saw you raise the volume of the dynamics from the piano roll as shown here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ibtyaaljyrLUf3k.html I never understood how to do that, when I try to do it with alt+scroll wheel it only raises the note velocity, if you could tell me how you do that I would really appreciate it :D anyways thanks for all the content, there aren't a lot of fl studio channels that do what you do so I'm very grateful for your work :]

I started with a Desktop with an i3 CPU and 8GB of RAM. Nowadays I'd recommend to start at least from i5 and 16GB. Desktop is always the better choice IF you work mostly in the same room.

A little tip that should help alot of you: Put high and low passes on every track to reduce mud and open up the song so the individual tracks have more room and don't clash as much. Also every single instrument you add should be treated as a voice in a conversation from the get go. If you start with a cello for example and you add a violin on top, make sure they converse nicely and don't fight, before adding more instruments. These steps will greatly speed up your work flow and result in a clearer and better mix. With a good arrangement mixing is just the icing on the cake rather than a makeover. Which is what mixing is supposed to be. I see lots of potential in these tracks! Great work everyone and a big thanks to Alex for making these awesome tutorials and for interacting with his community!

Plus Ultra, huh? I am working on learning FL studio but the way it handles patterns is frustrating. Not intuitive at all. If can start composing like I want, then hopefully I can put out want I want to do. I have planed "You say run" remix that is both Metal and orchestra, Nightwish in a way if I can manage it. Cyberpunk remix of Terminator 2 theme. Cyberpunk/industrial metal/orchestra mix of Garou's Theme.
@AlexMoukala4 жыл бұрын
You don't have to stick to FL, Use whatever DAW suits your style the best. Good luck on your Hero Academia remixes!

@@AlexMoukala Yeah, I "have to" but I am because I am not going let my frustrations stop me. Plus, I don't have a lot of money or disk space to by other DAWs and try them out. I know FL and I am going to stick with it.
