1. 1 I said to God, “I trust in You,
So do not let me perish.
2 You are my Lord, the good I do
Apart from You is rubbish.”
3 As for the saints who dwell on earth,
“To me they all excel in worth
They are the friends I cherish.”
2. 4 Their sorrows shall be multiplied
Who after idols follow.
With their own God dissatisfied,
In idol filth they wallow.
Their blood-filled cups I will not give
To silent gods that do not live;
Nor call on names so hollow.
3. 5 LORD, You are my inheritance;
You are my cup and birthright.
Such grace is sheer extravagance:
You’re granted to me outright!
6 The lines that You have drawn are sound;
You’ve gifted me with pleasant ground,
Maintained by loving foresight.
4. 7 I bless the LORD who counseled me,
And trained my meditation.
8 My chosen guide; the One I see;
God is my sure foundation.
9 For this my heart is full of joy,
My tongue in gladness I employ;
I rest in expectation.
5. 10 You save from death which I deserve,
Your mercies know no measure.
Your Holy One You will preserve,
To give us wisdom’s treasure.
11 The path of life You will unfold;
At Your right hand is joy untold,
And everlasting pleasure.
