NICE mill. The vertical edger and resaw help a lot. There was one like this one a ways away from here. We took a load of sawed stuff over there and crept up to see it. It was in the corner of the building and the boards were coming off the live deck every 6 inches. Scared us to death till we peeped over the stairs and saw it sitting there. No telling what kind it was but it was FAST. Seemed like it turned on the way back. YEARS ago. Probably 68 or 69. The motor was HUGE! Chest high and I was 6'2". Electric of course. Thanks!

Pin oaks hold their leaves the longest of any of the oaks and most other species. Often they will stay on until the new buds push them out in the spring. My grandfather called them "winter oaks", said to find one when hunting because there will always be something there scrounging for acorns. Glad the hydraulic fix was an easy one 👍

I see the answer to my question from the last video in the intro. 👍

I can’t wait to do a full video on it once it’s done. One of my regrets is, I didn’t really start uploading to the channel until after I started it:/ The process of it going up would’ve been great!

What will the 8/4? boards that you cut be used for?
@HelmsburgsawmillАй бұрын
They will be finished out and used for things like shelving and furniture

As I am slowly being able to recognize the hardwood species you throw another one at me. Pin oak- can u quickly explain how it is different from other oak species? Nice looking lumber.
@HelmsburgsawmillАй бұрын
So it’s still considered a “red oak”. But when you open it up, even a nice looking butt log like that, they’re all knotty! The Bark may even look smooth
@johnmcgarvie4061Ай бұрын
@@Helmsburgsawmill tks for the informative reply. Knots never bothered me as long as they were sound and tight.

What is the length of the pin oak?
@GoneBattyBatsАй бұрын
Do you have a way to rotate logs forward instead of back all the time?
@HelmsburgsawmillАй бұрын
Yes I have bottom dogs that flip the log down! However I don’t really use them on big logs
@GoneBattyBatsАй бұрын
@@Helmsburgsawmill To clarify, I meant roll the log or cant forward 90 deg instead of rotating it back 270 deg. Seems like at times it would be much faster especially if quarter sawing. Let me know if you showed this or described in in another video.
