I think it's a quirk of TV censoring, you can say "ass" on TV, but "asshole" is extra naughty. So it's one of those things where you can bleep out the "hole" and still meet the standard.

Would dad's humiliation be funny? Would dad beating mom be funny? Would dad killing Santa be funny? Would the resulting divorce be funny? This kid is sick in the head.

What do you mean?? They'll probably play it on every SNL Christmas special for years to come. This is a very popular show, y'know, will never qualify for "underrated" status. Considering the production values invested in this one and how crowd-pleasing it is, there's nothing underrated about it.

I think this skit is depicting 20 years earlier - the 1940's. If you look at the magazine at the beginning of video, it reads "Saturday Evening Post" which is from that time. The price of magazine is 5¢ (it's been a long time since any major publication was only 5¢!), and the cover art itself is definitely from that era. Her look & hairstyle are also 1940's, if you watch any old movies from that time. They did a great job on this :)

I can't help but laugh every single time I see Scarlett do that "Git 'im!" face and little jabs when Husband is assaulting Santa. She just makes me laugh so much in this. Everyone was great in this.
