Pia’s the best. She roasts Anna but does it in the nicest way. I’m pretty sure when Anna went nb5 Pia said it was “ambitious” and proceeded to explain for like 10 minutes how it was really not great

Actually, that's some good advice for your opponent. I think he needs to take a short break from the board for a while because it seems like he's running himself down. Don't feel bad, I have days where I'll play 78-93% accuracy in like 15 games, and then I'll have 1 game where I swear to god, I'll think "ok it was a bad game but I only probably had like 55% accuracy" and I'll run the analysis and the computer will go "you had a 34% accuracy." So I know EXACTLY what you mean about playing full of mistakes for no reason at all. Good luck tomorrow and in all your other games! The overall understanding I have gleaned from your Reykjavik reports is that Chess is not just a game of skill, study, planning, and evaluation, but as important are the emotions and attitudes/psychology. I'm starting to understand better why Bobby Fischer was able to gain advantages against his opponents before the matches began (as an example). And I am starting to understand how fascinating the "off the table" aspects of Chess can be. Thanks, Anna!

Anna, as a former tournament player. Anyone who plays constantly in tournaments gets used to the pressure and if they come prepared we are dangerous to people who are stronger but don't have the tournament play. There is no accounting for the pressure of match play. I peaked at a rating of 1724 in the early mid 90s but beat an expert and a master at the 1993 US Open because I was prepared and handled the pressure well. Won class a b prize.

I believe against d6, as a 2000+ player you should consider d4 and then e4, let them play a Pirc or a Modern (or a Philidor) and try to squeeze them with the classical lines (Nc3, Nf3, Be2, 0-0,(Bc4 against the Philidor), h3, a4), otherwise, you give your opponent an easier, more comfortable game, like what you saw in this game.

kids don’t have a fear of losing, they play because it is play to them, Fun, they enjoy playing the game. Even If they lose the game, they are ready to play again . How different how an adult gets scared when they feel their pride is on the line, it makes the adult nervous and that fear has to be overcome because it occupies the mind and affects concentration. So, I hope Anna enjoys her next rounds for the fun of the playing, win or lose.....with no scary nerves. Have Fun, or it isn’t worth playing.

Very lucky game - and indeed the 1600 rating effect happened, a major blunder. But don't forget that you are a massive KZfaq personality which could be daunting to your opponents, and you are very charismatic and have a higher rating than he had - and all of it is being recorded, so he must have felt a lot of pressure. Well done on the win!

A lot of people don't realize how much brain stamina is required to play in tournaments. When I played back in the 80s, I would win short games but struggle with long games. I could feel my brain slowly stop thinking. During a match, in between moves, I would get up, walk around, splash water on my face, eat chocolate, sweets - anything to get energy back. I had a concentration stamina limit and when I reached it, the game was over and I would lose. I believe your opponent reached his concentration limit.
