I hate when they call any silver in any form "junk". Plastic bottles that can't even be recycled are junk. Silver is always a treasure.
@-oiiio-3993
@-oiiio-3993 2 ай бұрын
'Junk silver' refers to coins whose numismatic value is insignificant. When a worn Roosevelt dime contains well over twenty times its face value in metal, that reclamation value far exceeds any numismatic value that coin would ever have on the market.
@rickadams9
@rickadams9 2 ай бұрын
I refer to it as c Constitutional or 90%. For lack of better english " It ain't junk "
@-oiiio-3993
@-oiiio-3993 2 ай бұрын
@@rickadams9 The Constitution specified that the United States Dollar would be equivalent to the Spanish Dollar and it was. The Spanish Dollar was .8924 silver. Section 9 of the Mint Act (U.S.) of 1792 reinforced use of the .8924 alloy with the following specification: _...Dollars or the same is now current, and to contain three hundred and seventy-one grains and four sixteenth parts of a grain of pure, or four hundred and sixteen grains of standard silver.._ Do the math, that's .8924. The silver (and gold) content of U.S. coinage was not rounded up to .90 / .10 until the Mint Act of 1837.

Its "Junk" because you are most likely paying for an underweight coin by face value not weight.
@-oiiio-3993
@-oiiio-3993 2 ай бұрын
@@Justin-pt2dq Not the origin of the term. It is (and has been for many decades) a term used by dealers for 90% silver coins whose reclaimed metal value exceeds any numismatic value.

Keith's honesty made that extra brutal. You're better off buying a grab bag from a coin dealer than buying them on eBay. Thanks for buying these so others don't have to, Seeker!
@robertwood6238
@robertwood6238 21 күн бұрын
Instead of just buying it outright at the price the seller is asking, put in a bid for the item for what you think the items worth. I believe eBay still allows bidding on items they're selling! I may be wrong though! Haha! And, if someone outbids you... oh well, it was probably only worth about ten bucks anyway. Let the final buyer be the one to find that out! Like Rick on TV's "Pawn Stars" says: *"If it seems too good to be true, it probably is"!*

@@robertwood6238 The way I always understood "mystery bags/boxes" is that the dealer should state up front that each $10 bag (for example) contains a guaranteed minimum value of (again for example) $15 or $20, with the idea being that despite the items having that "book value" they're going to be stuff that's in lesser condition or low demand and in general the seller is best off unloading. Both parties benefit from the transaction in what is basically a novelty deal. The off-chance that a real high-dollar item might occasionally pop up in a bag is a nice added attraction.
@JohnDoe-uz7mq

I sold mystery bags on eBay and I was totally fair. I'm Canadian and sold $50 and $100 bags. Both bags had at least $50 or $100 in them. That's retail. How did I make money? I didn't pay retail. Easy.

No! He stated, "There's a sucker born every minute." What’s interesting about (you people) & your alcoholism ...........is that just a few years before the infamous potato famine, Ireland was the site of a massively successful temperance campaign led by the noted Catholic priest, Theobald Mathew. So successful was this campaign that between 1838 and 1841, their national alcohol consumption was cut in half.

The value of a Mercury Dime can vary from less than $1.50 to over $1,500 depending on its condition, date, and mint mark. For example, as of July 2024, a circulated 1945 Mercury Dime is worth between $3.25 and $5.75, while a 1926 Mercury Dime in good condition is worth $3, but an uncirculated one can be worth $450. Some of the rarest Mercury Dimes include the 1916-D, 1921, 1921-D, 1925-D, 1926-S, 1931-D, and the 1942 over 41

years ago, I had got a speeding ticket and needed to make some money fast to make it to the next payday. I went to a coin collector with 10 coins that were old and a mix of U.S. and foreign coins. I told the guy I wanted $30 for all of them. After he was done examining them, he offered $15 for them. I told him I couldn't do that. Before I got to the door, he changed his mind. People tell me that there's no telling what they were worth, since the guy actually gave me what I wanted for them. Live and learn!

Keith - I'm old in FLA, but lived at G.R. Mich '80's. Old Farticus, coin dealer @show, sellin' the remainders of year sets, after 50 cent pieces snipped out. I asked for bulk purchase price. He had his Buds there, scowled at me, & said, "Sonny, the price is the price...I have 3000 of 'em, how many you want?" I stated his sticker price, & asked, if that was correct? Dealer snarled sayin' "That's the price Sonny...now buy 'em or move along, how many you want? I tried to look dejected, but coyly said, "I'll take 'em all". Dealer & Buds laughed their azzes off, until when left, I smiled & said, "Hello Susan B. Anthony....you hot Biotch"!!! Don't worry, I paid area back next decade on way to Lansing, workin' MDOT. I-96 near Airport, my PU only traffic, & slammed by Microburst. PU squatted, rebounded, alit crooked @85mph, but caught it, w/glance up at Jetliner on ILS Approach to GRR, STATIONARY!! Had my 3X load, but flipped on lights & beacons, yanked it up on rights, up thru window, sittin' on sill, gassin' Rt foot, Rt hand steer, Lt hand shake finger at Capt WTF up there, while slaloming CL, until Capt gassed it w/huge plumes of exhaust, but also set full flaps, gear up, nose down, then in flat plummet to G.R. Jetliner smashed into oak woods as pullin' out, but continued thru forest, until arose out N end! Capt knew that's impossible, so gently pulled U-Turn passing me on way to Lansing, & THERE WAS THAT DANG ORANGE PICKUP!! HO RE SHT, it did exist! He pulled lazy u-turn, flyin' back towards G.R. @freeway altitude, wagglin' wings, wavin' paper back & forth, on side-window as, "Thanks for tip", I flipped on lights/beacons, & waved at him for, "No Problem", & that shoulda been last of that! Liner ruined, no radios for Tower, No Com w/Cabin, so Capt flew remains straight to GRR this time, but it looked abandoned. Nervous, he gave self, Approach, Land, Taxi, Approach Concourse, & Park in his spot Clearances, so did exactly that, but wingtips dragged runway, & his Gate Abandoned. Capt didn't want Liner to catch fire killin' all, so shut her down himself as 1st Ofcr still whimpering knowing he was dead. Finally, Capt could hear Company w/Medical arriving to retrieve entire Cabin Crew, all severely injured, plopped "Junior" on gurney shootin' 'em up to prevent scene, then the injured Passengers, then those uninjured, w/Capt left alone. He slipped down narrow "Late Luggage" stairs, glanced back up at his beautiful V-Shape wings, but tips bowed down to tarmac. Capt knew in trouble for sure, was pullin' oak limbs from belly, when arrested by GRPD for Evidence Tampering, & second charge of Joyriding Airliner!! Cops dragged Capt to door, then stairwell, bumpin' him up steps, w/money shot, passing his uninjured Passengers makin' them all cry!! Capt later told me, that was when felt just like sht!! He was then bumped up the Tower's Stairs into FAA's lair, before 4 - Know-It-Alls, asking raft of questions, for which he had no answers. Upon arrival, FAA Supervisor, asked for removal of handcuffs, & after questioning completed, the Arresting Officer asked the FAA Supv if wanted Capt Charged & Lodged out to Kent Co Jail? Supv by then, realizin' gravity of situation, told Cop, "You've got to be kidding"!!! NOV '96, Capt just back to flying, I was marooned @TPA, having not eaten for 3 days, w/next AM ride to DTE on SWA after Burger Spcl @Pilot's Lounge, but Zero $'s on me. In line, my table was dbl table, but there was little single table at wall, so told 4 - Pilots behind they could have dbl, & I'd get that single table. I was way underdressed, so Waitress got my burger in gear, then returned for Pilots' orders. NWA Capt had his newly issued 1st Ofcr there, & pair of SWA Pilots too for Dangers of Windshear/Microburst Training. He started out OK with, on ILS approach to GRR...bla, bla, bla, but couldn't recall order of Emergency Actions, let alone the order of same. My burger near, but said, "Capt, you went full gas/flaps, gear up, nose down, then plummet straight down into...WHAM", Capt tackled me, growling, "And exactly how in the hell would you know that", but choken' me until 1st Ofcr said, "Capt maybe if you stop chokin' him"...& he stopped. I showed Capt my MDOT ID, he blinked half a dozen times, & said to Waitress guarding burger, "He looks more like a T-Bone Man to me, he'll be haven' what we're havin', & single table w/extra burger goes to this Young Man right here", another Senior NWA Capt waitin' in line. (Just absolutely flattered!!) See guys, instant $3,000 coin profit, traded for 155 souls in future, sounds fair...right??

Yeah its a cool thing for a gift if you make a case for them or for a kid to get them interesting in history. But many coins are only valuable for the history behind the images, period, specific date. You're not likely to get rich buying and selling money. The ones who get rich are the finders. Grandma's piggy bank, in the walls of an old building being renovated, discovering a Spanish Galleon, etc. ;)

People don't understand certain thing's!!! It's cheaper to recycle than to dig for Iron Ores. Think about the fuel & energy cost's versus drilling & Extraction cost's. How many life's are lost because large corporations care more about their profit margins than they care a about a human life... 🤔

Coins have 2 values. Raw materials like silver (silver coins are 90% silver) and Numismatic (Coin Collectors) Value. The collectors value comes from numerous factors, mostly from how many were made, the fewer made usually are more valuable; the mint mark (Philadelphia, called Plain, with no mint mark letter, Denver (D), San Francisco (S), New Orleans (O) etc.). Some valuations are high due to flaws in the coin, usually a stamping error of some form. Other valuations are the coin itself, a good example is the Lincoln Penny from 1909. Some had the initials VDB on the reverse, that was the designer of the coin, Victor D Brenner. The coins are called 1909 VDB. The S mint mark is more valuable than others on this particular coin, I have one. Bottom line, never spend old coins, and if you find one that has a stamp error it likely has much more value than a normal stamped coin of the same date/mint mark. Another factor, usually the most important are the coins condition. Proof, special coins made by the mint and sold at a higher price than face value, these are highly polished. Uncirculated, Fine, Good etc.

I'm not a professional coin/bill hunter, but I have enough common sense to reach anything from I buy it... I got ripped off once for a sports card about 15 years ago. Then, a chemically altered $5.00 bill 2 years ago. Since the bill scam, I research EVERYTHING...

You don't know what's in a person's person's heart, and there are numismatics that do know a lot but the coin dealers know a lot about their basics there are some people that know a lot more and some of the coin dealers have stuff they don't even know the value of and in some cases I won't mention the amount that individuals have come away with because you would not believe, there's a notch up above these coin dealers and if you don't know about it you are in the wrong business..
