Trust me dude, trying to keep those Salmon/Steelhead pinned to the hook is a lot easier with mono. Mono has a stretching effect that helps keep the barbless hook stuck to the fish, braid on the other hand is a violent jolt everytime the fish jumps, twist, or shakes it's head

Those scares are probably from gillnets, also put an offset bend in your siwash, happy you didn't name any spots next time head up to the major confluence then take the road northwest of the bridge back down to the end of the road.

jack king is 24 in or under and jack coho is 22in or under, basically all jack salmon are males

Looked like Humboldt County country. Last week, the Eel was about dry barely flowing; incredible!!! Klamath had some decent looking water. In early 60's I fish the Mad or Star Win riffle for 1/2 pounder steelies. Address the lack of water (dams) and it's affect on all fish.

Yeah both forks of the eel are dry or filled with algae. The Mad is a little better but salmon don't crowd it till the winter run from my experience. The mad is better known for the steelhead now. Luckily I got invited to an indigenous salmon harvest at the mouth of the Klam recently. Was given so much salmon to eat for the winter. I love humboldt

Yo what up I’d try using more of salmon techniques when targeting salmon like flossing or using a flying c or something you’re using a more of a steelhead tactic with the float that’s why you’re catching a bunch of halfies instead of salmon

They are actually sexually mature, they are just an early return fish at a smaller size (ie return at year 3 instead of year 4 or 5). They are a survival tactic to allow for breeding between run years and act as an insurance policy so to speak in case something catastrophic were to happen to a single year's run (such as a rockslide, heat wave, etc).
