In all honesty, I'm not surprised that this video performed well. However, I'm shocked you never took it down from your channel. You break several laws and very visibly incriminate yourself in this video. I'm shocked the park service have not taken you to court.

i mean i understand rules are rules. That being said i dont see how this man disrespected nature in any way... Also to call it a natural resource is also wrong seeing as the tree is protected from being used as a resource.

This would be super cool to do but it is super illegal. I heard a story about a guy who got in trouble with the parks service for camping a few hundred feet outside the official camping area and he only ended up having to pay like $1k but could have been fined up to $5k and gone to jail for at least a year if not more and been banned from national parks. Pretty serious and totally not worth it man

It’s fenced off because you can cause damage to the root system. Before winter I was cutting all the dead trees around the giant sequoias near South Gate. Wouldn’t recommend any camping in the old growths, not wise folks could lead to potential charges there’s designated camp sites for a reason 🌲 #leave no trash behind folks! 🖖

Not suggesting he should have done it, esp. in the National Parks as they have some pretty strict laws and regulation, but as far as damage, I assume a spot like that in winter gets used by bears and other animals unless they block it all off to keep the animals out.

2:46 Lastnite i discovered your channel and started binge watching, but had to stop because i "had to wake up and go to work", HA! But I'm noticing that unlike all other channels, you upload your "failures" (even those are great videos, sometimes better). And while watching this video, i realized/thought, "I have no idea if he's goong to pull this off! Just because he uploaded it, doesn't mean it was a success!" If you guys do not know this tree is called the “General sherman” The tree with the largest trunck on the face of the earth and there Was a wild fire not to long ago but due to the help of locals the tree managed to survive and maintain its great form!

As an arborist, we measure trees by their diameter 4ft off the ground, granted im from Illinois and the largest trees i have seen were around 5ft in diameter. When i visited the redwoods in California that AVERAGE tree that i measured came in at 12ft 6in and it took 3 people to measure one tree because DBH tape ran out multiple times

Nah, i hate insects crawling all over me! ALL trees are a haven for a multitude of bugs! In fact, at ~ 10:04 you can see thousands (or millions) of ants crawling up and down that tree while you are staring at the night sky!
