The 5D3 was my first full frame camera and it completely changed my life, it allowed me to turn my hobby into a carrier. I've had the 5D4, 6D2, even the 60D, 70D, 80D, and I'm currently using the new R6. But the second camera that holds a place in my heart is the humble T3i.

I LOVE that you show where you cropped! So many people say "you gotta fill the frame without cropping!". With modern cameras, cropping is not a problem at all. My first "pro" camera was a 5 megapixel, and I routinely printed 16x20 prints from that, so cropping a 20+ megapixel camera......no problem! What some people don't realize is that billboards only require 2-3 megapixels. Quite often, I will crop out 2/3 of the image on my 20 megapixel cameras, and it still looks great. For some pictures that were only going to be on the web, I've cropped out 80% of the image. Thanks for posting!

Robert, thanks for the feedback, cropping gives us a lot of creative freedom to compose shots how we want and I crop almost every image. Cheers, Duade

I so appreciate that you took time to acknowledge the journey and stories shared with a camera. I so get that!!!!! I’ve got an old Pentax that I’ve had for over a decade and I dreaded upgrading cos it was for me a great little camera and I had taken so much with it and really just enjoyed it. It was a friend on many bush walks. I would be taking that moment to thank a camera like you have. My old friend sits as a back up now, and is there for the kids to “play” with if they want to try out some photograph making with it. Learn the ropes and basics . . . . .I love that others do weird like this too. I hope the new owner is enjoying the use of 5D iii.

First camera I fell in love with was my Canon Eos 3. Still have it and pick it up every now and then. Sometimes miss the magic when a roll of film was developed and you could see the photos for the first time. Moved over to the R6 with a few others in between. Feel like I finally found a new love.

I have not the long history with Canon like you as I recently moved from Nikon to Canon with the R5. But when I look back into my time with the Nikon D4s and Nikon D850, yeah, isn't it that an amazing moment when you realize what beautiful shots you got with this equipment - and it can still deliver such beautiful images today. Means, you don't need the latest and greatest to come up with such images. Ah ja...still I love my R5 now :) Great video, dude!

Love this vlog, I recently got an Olympus OMD1 mk2 to replace my omd10 mk3 which has been an amazing little camera and there was a tear in the eye when it was traded in to help support the purchase of the omd1. I to had a great relationship with the 10 and will miss it but I couldn't persuade my other half other wise. Still onwards and upwards can't what to get out with the omd1. So your not alone, chin up and keep on vloging. Peter.

Great but emotional content! Really felt bad about my Canon 7D Mark ii which I sold last month. I took my first and great bird photos with it but switched to micro four thirds because I couldn’t afford a canon 500 or 600mm which I badly needed. Having said that I am finding my new love in m4/3 but the first love never fades away! 😭

Hello Duade, I'm going to really date myself but my very first love of a camera was my first 35mm film camera a Canon AL-1. It was the predecessor to Canons auto focus line. I learned photography on film cameras where you didn't know if you got the shot until your film was developed. It was reliving the event or trip all over again. And yes several times things went crazy wrong! The film didn't engage the take up spool and when your counter reads 28 on a roll of 24 you know you blew it. But to be perfectly honest, I wouldn't of had it any other way. It taught me what being a good photographer was all about. By the way yes I still have that camera and she still works like she did when she was new. So having a camera as a first love? I'd think it odd for a photographer not to have one. Excellent video and I wish the new owner of the camera many great shots.

Great video, I'm sure a lot of us can relate. My first love was a Canon FT film camera. It slid down mountain trails with me 😃 I was so sad when it became irreparable. I had another Canon film camera, and a second generation Rebel, but can honestly say that my current 80D is the first camera since that FT that I'm really attached to, maybe when I have more time to invest, will go full frame.

Some truly amazing shots you have taken! :) Hope your newer cameras will serve you at least as well as the 5D3! My first camera was a 7D and years after I bought a 5DsR which is what I've been using for years now and still really like. However, I mostly shoot landscapes and architecture, only ocassionally wildlife (for which a 5D4 or R5/R6 would no doubt be a better hit).

Don't see many shots of the Spirit of Enderby pop up on videos, what a great adventure that was, we did it nearly 2 years ago, so can relate to the photos. My husbands Canon 70D froze twice, where my Olympus OMD EM5 mk2 didn't miss a beat. Just had to say hi, not many of us have been to Antartica on such a great voyage. You speak about the 5D Mark III like a good colleague with whom you say your goodbye. A colleague you had a good time with. I find it touching .. Keith, congrats on the new gear, I would advise shooting at f10 or f11 when using the 1.4 extender, if you shoot wide open at f8 your shots will likely be a little soft. The lens is sharpest without the converter but the extender can be useful when you need the reach. Cheers, Duade

if you love photography then it is sure you are going to fall in love with you camera for it becomes the instrument of your love that can make your love dreams true! I happened to fall in love with a female photographer that she initiated me in the mystery and beauty of photography and then I gained two loves. But your camera is much more faithful that your female partner and so this love has no end! My first love camera was canon 30D, then 5Dmarkii, then 5Dmarkiii, then 5Dmarkiiii and Eos R. I have loved many cameras over the years, however, the first camera that really felt special was the Canon EOS 1V film camera. The viewfinder seemed to find and lock onto the most perfect compositions. The sound of the shutter/mirror mechanism was magic. The camera felt like it was built to take any punishment. I probably could have driven a nail in with it. I currently have a 5DIII but am considering the upgrade to the R6. I really enjoy your content and sense of humor. Keep up the good work!

My true love is 5DII and 7D. I bought them recently, used naturally. However the 5DII was almost new with only 5k shutter count when I bought it in 2018. Got two 7Ds late last year moderately used. The reason, I know they are reliable heavy weights and plan to use them as long as they continue clicking. Same time I have my eyes focused on EOS R as well. Because that will allow me stack extenders on my EF 300mm f/2.8L IS II USM telephoto lens and still maintain AF in the EVF. Previously I used 450D, 50D, 6D and 70D. Good memories with all. But, 70D incorporates a flawed mainboard and it crashed. Same thing happened to many other users.

Gidday Duade, my trusty 7Dii started glitching and freezing up so I took it in too Canon for repair but they told me it would take 2-3 weeks 🥺 I thought I'd go crazy with no camera so I looked at renting a camera but even the cheapest hire place was several hundred NZ$ for 3-4 weeks so I looked at buying another body. I found a 5Diii at a reasonable price and I'm just amazed at how much better full frame is for portraits and low light and how great this camera is in spite of the very low shutter speed at 6 fps. The shutter is ridiculously loud though (much louder than my 7Dii ) and I mostly use the silent shutter option even though that drops the shutter speed down to 3 fps. Now I understand why people rave on about how much better full frame is for bokeh and low light and my primes like my 50 f/1.8, 85 f/1.8 and 135 f/2.8 are transformed into true bokeh beasts compared to how they look with my 7Dii. Even my EF100-400 ii (especially at 400mm) is quite magical and I'm looking forward to how my Great White EF300 f/2.8 and EF400 f/2.8 plus extenders perform especially in the bush. Cheers Noel

Aww mate, I think I got something in my eye there watching that! Lol - very funny tribute to a camera that clearly served you so well over the years making many beautiful memories together! It’s nice to hear it’s off to be appreciated by its new owner 👍 Advances in camera technology bring us new capabilities & functionality but that doesn’t automatically mean all legacy cameras suddenly have no use. I’m afraid I’m on the dark side being a Nikon shooter and I absolutely love my oldskool 2012 Nikon D3s in all its 12mp full frame glory! She feels superb in the hand, is built like a tank and produces lovely RAW files. I happily reach for her when the conditions suit (low light & I can get reasonably close to the bird). Once again top video mate 👍 Stay well

Many years ago I had the option to choose between the 5Diii and the 6D as the 5DIV was out and I opted for the 6D mainly because of its better dynamic range/ISO and slightly smaller size. I have kept the 6D for a long time, photographed both my daughters, many trips, events, still using it, etc. but no particular love towards it. Hi Duade, Great video again, and of course the wives come first and I have two reasons for choosing my wife above the love of photography. One she's just lovely and second of all she lets me spend a fortune on my love for photography! My first ever camera was a Pentax Super -A, this camera was the camera I discovered and learned the basics of photography back in 1994. After that, I started getting top-notch bodies like the Nikon F90-X and Nikon 100. Still loving photography and about two years ago I started getting into bird photography.........also. doing a lot of pro soccer, some tennis, and portrait. Recently got a Nikon D4s and a Nikon D5 and also having a Nikon D4 but not using this body anymore. Hi Duade my camera was a canon 20 d I am still very impressed with the images it produced. I sometimes wonder where our photography is going ,the cameras are getting better and better ,locking on to the birds eye, pre focusing on where the bird might move to ,what are we going to do when it’s more down to the camera we use than our own abilities. In the old film days about 80% of the photos you took were down to you if they turned out good or not. Anyway thanks for the excellent videos Best Regards Tim

G'day Tim, it is an interesting question and I would love to debate this over a cuppa. I guess there is nothing stopping people using whatever camera they want and I believe film is making a resurgence in the landscape world for the reasons you mention.
