Props to you Ludwig. This is legit fresh air to see and hear. I think including your workers in what is said or done is MASSIVE and shows that yeah, you care about what others think and can't just veto at a whim as primary owner. And hearing you say you have enough money for that cube that you don't NEED to worry about money, so you'd rather do it this way, really sells that message well. Always saw you as a genuine guy and glad to see you growing more and stepping foot into the gaming industry to help out developers get seen and noticed and not push these insane work practices onto them. And for encouraging people to at least TRY. You'll never learn or get good if you don't. Good luck with everything man!

Making offbrand a worker coop is definitely the most based thing that could have been done. I remember you talking about doing it a year or two ago but I never thought it would have come so soon. I know they'll be able to live up to what you've created so far. I would have hoped the first game to be published would have been something a little less known, but if the workers at Offbrand believe that Rivals 2 is what they should publish, they have my complete support, and I will make sure to play it as soon as it releases.

To play devils advocate, this business structure will not last. Employee longer term plans change, what happens when some start to sell equity including retirement. Also, now becoming an owner means incentives change like taking on more risk for a greater payoff in profits due to becoming an owner. What happens if a third party company silently purchases each employee shares one by one until they get 51% ownership. I'm not trying to shit on him, I'm just pointing out the flaws of everyone being so invested including sunk cost fallacy.

I thought Ludwig was a pretty entertaining guy before - but this move... I cannot express how unendingly much respect I have for this. So many times I had conversations with the people around me, how this billionairs world screwed up. How there is no good billionair because once your have that much money - you can no longer - even if you try - live in the same world that 99% of humanities lives in. With that much money - money no longer means anything to you - not in the way it does for pretty much all of humanity. So we always thought - he once you made one billion - you get a medal that says "I won capitalism" and all the money thereafter gets redistributed. and here is Ludwig - ACTUALLY DOING IT - saying "I'm good fam" and seeing to it that other people get a chance. This is such a big deal - because talking about it is one thing - but really giving that kind of money up - who would really do it? Having a lot is good - but our instinct goes "but more is always better" A man stepping away before "billionairs sickness" sets in... ... I just regained a real big piece of hope in humanity. Mr Ludwing - you are an actual Hero - the kind of example that sends out into the world is BIG!

Ludwig, you are a fucking godsend. i am not a huge main channel enjoyer, but i love you as a person and i love pretty much everything you're involved with, especially your involvement with the Melee scene. (and the yard of course) Even with all the success, you haven't let it poison you, you've remembered who you are, you've stayed humble, and you've continued to support and care about the same things you always have. I don't know enough about running a business to know how good of a decision what you explained in this video is - but the intention and perspective behind it is perfect. I wish more people saw the world through your lens, and of all the people in this space, I'm glad you were the one who got the subathon blowup.

Honestly same, also not a very big main channel person, but every time I see something that has Ludwig in it, he is always so chill and cool. I've watch mogul mail and compared it to other channels that cover news and drama and the like and apart from few (usually small like sumitomedia or they are slow to it like sumitomedia ), get all the detail in the story, and it's evident that they try as hard to not take sides.

@gelgel4823 by saying he has become more "commie" I can deduce your angle in this. Let me make something clear, when I say he covers things without bias and extensively I do not mean his own views. I mean the stories that he covers, the are done in a way that feels complete and researched as compared to others. What he does and believe is his own, his own personal views should not be questioned neither should Hassans for that matter. By that I mean that people should be allowed to believe what they will, we all have different environment in which we grew up and in which we currently reside, stop trying to say that because they have money now suddenly they do not know how the world function, you come off extremely arrogant. Furthermore, if his employees are happy with this decision and the company is still afloat, and Ludwig is happy I do not see a problem. The world has become more "commie" in general, im sure you've noticed and likely can't shut up about, the internet has made it more accessible for anyone to do a modicum of research, if you think the views of hassan and Ludwig are communist you'd be correct but you would also be wrong because you are likely associating communism with stalinism. Just like there are many flavors of capitalism there is many of communism. I don't even know why I'm giving you a lecture on this.

I love witnessing a success of a company. Choosing to not sell out for investors has got to be one of the most fulfilling work environments to exist in. This is more "American dream" than anything else we have today. It is so gratifying to see that someone can recognize when they have enough wealth, and use their assets to create a constructive environment for those who have given nothing but blood and tears to an industry that gives them nothing in return. I hope to witness an era where all of our dreams come true with promising games that can be released without a demands for live service to appease investors. One where we can not have our hopes crushed when it is announced a beloved studio is shutting down due to budget cuts, even though they belong more than most in the space. The world would be a better place if petty politics and greedy businessmen were left entirely out of the equation, and we were left to just enjoy the FINISHED products as is meant to be without crunches. RIP to every game remake that was discarded because of these things. I can only pray Off brand can pull off the opportunities that those other publishers couldn't, and prove to all the Activ/Blizz, Ubi, etc. what the consumers, THE GAMERS, actually want from the product they are purchasing. This is awesome news, and I only wish my career path took a different route just so I could be a part of this history. If an opportunity presents itself to be of any help, I would like to know where to sign up. This is something you should be really proud of yourself for. It's hard to see through the darkness in this world, but this was one time of few that I got a really comforting and pleasant feeling in my chest. The business world needs more people like you willing to throw the money at a workforce that I believe is the most mistreated and taken advantage of in this universe outside of blue collar workers. This is really going to stir the pot amidst some really powerful people I think. Depending on the lengths you are willing to go as a publisher, you could have chance to apprehend the greatest ambition/talent out there on your team. I truly believe all developers have been waiting for this very opportunity for decades. Once those talented developers finally leave these corrupt work environments, there will be nobody left to stop you. I am so happy to see this, and I will be watching with my fingers crossed that you succeed.

This sounds like a great idea Ludwig! I heard of a similar company before where instead of a pyramid top-down system, they had a linear one. They also used 3rd party auditors or something to hold their members accountable because they were all on equal footing power-wise. Good luck with your company!

I hate corpos as much as the next guy but it's very unlikely if they got together on their own that they'd be able to have built the same thing from scratch.

Hey! Know this might be a shot in the dark but I'm fresh into the industry with some college experience in Software Engineering! I just graduated high school a year ago and I've been looking for a position left and right, even as a volunteer intern I'd love to get a shot or even be a playtester with Rivals 2! I work with any programming language really but I'm experienced within Java, C#, C++. Anyways if this gets lost in the sea of comments, love the content Lud, been watching your channels for around 3 years now and think all of it is just amazing. P.S. I don't think there's a single person who hasn't gotten Thor's YT shorts, that man is a legend at this point, much love to him as well.

This is genuinely the sickest thing I have ever seen a wealthy streamer do, and proves pretty definitely to anyone who had doubts that you founded offbrand for the love of the craft, rather than for money. Also, having a worker co-op indie publisher is incredible, you are going to have devs falling over themselves applying. I cannot stress enough that this is an incredible move, both ethically, and for both the streaming and game development industries as a whole.

"Offbrand Games" I sleep "Thor director of strategy" I awake "Rivals 2 as first game" gamer lean Seriously, I was feeling very "meh, w/e" until Thor was revealed to be working in Offbrand Games, and I audibly shouted "WHAT" when I saw Rivals 2. That's absolutely incredible. Best of luck for all of Offbrand Games and all devs whose dream might become true with the help of Thor (as a content creator helping people search their dreams) and Offbrand Games (as a publishing company helping devs achieve their dream).
