That’s crazy man! 1. The evergrows/kessils looked absolutely stunning together. 2. You’ve gone from something that’s quite energy efficient to something that’s really not at all just when the energy companies have hiked up all the costs. Yes it does look a little more pleasing through the main photo period but it’s really not worth it imo. Your tank was stunning before and it’s still stunning now, it really didn’t need another 3k throwing at it on lighting. I still love it and love your vids though 👍

Love the new setup! I spoke with the Kessil rep at Reefstock Denver recently and saw the 500s in action. Amazing looking. I was considering picking up a couple open box ones for about $600 US, here, but my current lighting is just fine. I run a couple a360xs, ReefBrites, and an xr30, so pretty much a light junkie myself. Besides the t5, which I’ve also run, this is a very similar solution and you will definitely see massive results. In a year you will have to get a bigger tank to fit all those corals!

I'm using 2 a360x in a hybrid fixture. I used to have 4 blue plus bulbs but they dulled the look of thr tank. Now running 2 blue plus and 2 actinic and it's spot on now! Tank glimmers

It'll be interesting to see how your corals respond in the coming months to the shift in spectrum and spread. I'm a big fan of giving as wide a spectrum as possible within the useable ranges - kind of akin to us (and our fish) eating a balanced and varied diet.

Great talk as always! What make/type are the on-off switches that are shown in the sump area near the end? Do you just cut the plugs off and wire them into the switch block.

Transcension I think. Google 'DJ switches' - you can get them on amazon and I've done a video showing them. You can do that but I tend to use 3 pin to kettle adapters

I've decided my future acro dominant tank will definitely have a T5 hybrid setup and at least 1 bulb will be a tropic sun as I can't find GE6500k bulbs. The LEDs will depend on what light I actually get and it may be the Giesemann Aurora V8 with a couple of custom LED bars from Herifi.

Did you use a seneye to take the readings? They suck. I believe I got about 300 higher when I compared it to a proper par-reader 😅

Really like the Kessils XHO combo. Just wondering what intensity you are running the 500s at? I thought they were designed for much deeper tanks that required the extra punch. I am thinking about a similar set up but with the 360s. Look forward to your bulb combo findings along with these leds, you might save me some time and effort 🤣

70% so far although I'd like to increase that over time to maximise the shimmer. They definitely are designed for deep tanks but I think they'll be fine especially with the supplemental lights either side. I'll report back in a while though - any new setup looks awesome at first!

A few months back I compared my seneye par meter to an apogee and it was reading PAR values twice what they really were, assuming the apogee is correct (and I think it is as I've since measured a few reefer tanks and values make sense). I've since bumped up my lights and now suddenly things are growing and looking colourful. I'm not sure if you might be experiencing the same (it doesn't really matter in this context as you're just matching) but just thought I'd mention it. I asked about and apparently you can install a firmware update to correct this but doing so on a Mac is really hard from what I could tell, and I have the apogee now so didn't bother!

Yeah I think you're right - I measured the lights a year or so ago when I had an orphek bar instead of the 2x Kessil a360 and the readings were about half the readings I got this week.

@@ReefDork There is a bug in your Seneye software, you need to update. Thread on R2R about it. If you don't get an update automatically, contact Seneye. Or don't update and divide your readings in half.

I have just swapped out my stellar and gen 5 radions for something else. I am still wondering after a month if i have done the right thing because the led/t5 is about as good as it gets in my opinion even though my transition has gone well. Time will tell i suppose

@@bobbyknox9258 you wont be disappointed bud. to be honest i swapped to 2 neptune sky, this week I added a third and it is excellent now on my particular setup. I have gone from 6 outlets to 3 but probaby the same amount of power usage. Anyway time will tell, i sold my stellar so no going back now lol

6 hours of T5s, the rest ramp up and down. 12 hours of light.

@@ReefDork I don't think you can beat T5's, most people return to them. Especially when the tank is getting 'full'. It'll be good to see what your tank looks like in 6 months time with these new lights.

Be careful, there's a dodgy firmware on seneye meters where it gives double par readings, update your firmware and it will sort it

P.s. before you had to contact seneye direct for the firmware but I'd imagine it's available through the normal update channels now

I have reefbrite xhos. Biggest waste of money. They aren’t visually bright, get very hot, overpriced and don’t make anything look particularly good or special. They are so overrated.
