You don't want to know what was going through River's head for "I'm your daddy"... So I'm gonna tell ya. In an interview Rivers talks about how the song began from his daughter being sick and wanting to take care of her. So then because he is terrified by that point in his career of writing anything real he made it a weird sex jam.

In run over by a truck, rivers intentionally confuses Chinese with Japanese because the narrator of the song has been run over by a truck, and is mixing everything up. This is also why later he references playing "b-ball" and then goes on to describe something you would do in a soccer match.

It’s not always easy to publicly admit being a Weezer fan (for often good reasons lol) but man oh man, Rivers Cuomo’s melody writing is on another level. It blows me away how many great hooks he’s written throughout his career.

What a great video! A huge Weezer fan myself, I too agree that Weezer is a personal comfort band. White is my favourite Weezer album. IMO, it sounds like the culmination of everything the band was working towards and finally landing on perfection. My favourite song changes all the time, but right now I am really loving the last three tracks off of SZNZ Winter, with “it’s dark enough to see the stars” being the top!

Like the ones that you can actually listen to as a song despite it not being finished. For example the song Let's Go To The 33rd Dimension, that song is absolute fire and it's a shame that it was never released 👀

Man, I can't for the life of me find it now, but I remember around the time Puberty 2 came out there was an interview with Mitski where she talked about the complicated tension of having Weezer as an early musical influence and River's lyrics about Asian women. I wish I could find a link to pass on. Always really enjoy your videos, this was a lovely space to be in for the last 78 minutes.

I'm maybe not the best person to comment on it, but Rivers' wife is japanese and he has a lot of respect for their culture, and I think a large part of the insensitivities are actually supposed to be joking, such as the chinese line followed by him speaking japanese. Also, Pinkerton is very openly an expression of his darker and inappropriate line of thinking, and showcasing the worst of him. It's not really an endorsement of the thoughts at all, but it can be jarring when singing along with people or listening with non-weezer fans. And I think a lot of us have caught ourselves having obsessive/perverted thoughts occasionally, whether we care to admit it or not. The other thing about it is I feel like weezer is a coming of age band, their discography is really a reflection of the average western man's progression through life, good and ugly. Editing to say this video was really fucking good and I love the perspective! Nice work!

I'm gonna get booed off the stage for this one but my favorite Weezer song is actually their cover of Take On Me 😭 But it's mostly for nostalgia value, it was a special song between me and my first girlfriend. She dumped me but I still love the song, it's just a little bittersweet now. My opinion of the cover is also probably colored by my love of the original tho lol

I loved this. I think everyone bases their opinion on weezer around the album where they 'discovered' them. Been a fan for a while, but I watched this in preparation for seeing them live for the first time next month. This gave me another perspective and I love that. More to discover. 1 criticism was the 0 for lyrics for futurescope trilogy. Part II has lyrics. Got to be worth at least 1. :-)

My friend (and you are my friend now, cuz if you're friends with P., well then you're friends with me), I have to say thank you. I came across this video over the summer. It had been 6 years since I listened to any new Weezer. I had just assumed everything after White sucked. But after watching this video my interest was piqued. I had been going through rough times in my career and personally recently. But to be able to discover so much great new music from the band has brought me joy through some dark days. So thank you. And we'll forever be bonded because we both know O Girlfriend is the best song on Green.

Despite my favorite song by them being Only In Dreams, I agree with a lot of this list. To name a few things I agree with, I Love the USA is also my least favorite Weezer song, I agree that QB Blitz is a very good song (one of their most underrated in my opinion), I think Undone (The Sweater Song) is good, but not one of its best, and Eulogy for a Rock Band is placed almost exactly the same on my ranking. Butterfly is a song I recently started to fully appreciate, and it quickly became one of my top 30 Weezer songs. I also liked the system you used to rank the songs. Great video!
