I just wanted to say is I went to school for small and marine engines for half a year until the class was closed due to lack of students. Anyway, I have to say I've learned more watching a half dozen of your youtube videos then I did in the crappy class. Thank you. I really enjoy it.

I went to tech school for automotive years ago and they were so far behind the times.What was taught was a joke and we were working on rear wheel drive vehicles and never touched a front wheel drive.I also learn more from youtube than I did in class.I learned from hands on only whether my time in a small engine shop or automotive.

Didn't see where you bled the cooling system. I know on the Yamaha Rhino there are two places to bleed on the top of the engine where the coolant goes in and on the bottom at the water pump. For the rhino you have to raise the front so that the top of the radiator is higher than the top of the engine. If you haven't bled at the pump, air in the pump will not allow it to pump coolant at all.

@@OldTimerGarden I'm not sure about this thing, but most Can-ams bleed pretty well without having to open the valves. On a Can-am, they're on the coolant elbows where they join onto the head.

Hey Joe, you show amazing patience here. I agree with all the comments on bleeding the cooling system, might be an air bubble trapped. Also, your secondary can be shimmed or de shimmed, the belt should not be spinning at idle, that will help shift between gears and provide less take off jerk. Scotch brite those sheeves and she'll grip the belt better as well.

I can't believe you didn't put anti-seize on the primary clutch shaft after what you went through trying to remove that. That Odes doesn't look too difficult to work on, looks very similar to the Yamaha Rhino set up. I have worked on a few makes of UTV's, the absolute worse and suggest you run if you find one, is the Honda MUV. I literally had to cut off a few brackets just to pull the heads, then re-weld the brackets back on. It's like Honda put the motor in and then started welding brackets on top of the motor. Known issue on the Honda MUV is the cam lobes wearing out and a serious pain to do that job. For your overheating, I would verify if your Odes has a thermostat as the later Rhinos do. Also, there is some kind of whining noise going on and it sounds like the transmission as the noise is while your rolling. Anyways, I commend your efforts.

Reason there hard to get off lol.someone that says they work on them should know full well you can't put anything on the shaft lol.
@MPDano
@MPDano 10 ай бұрын
@jerrywilcox9890 well, been doing that on primaries now for over 15 years and not one fell off and that's using an impact to put the bolt or nut back on. Tolerance is so high that most of it gets pushed off the shaft, in turn it also seals the shaft from ever getting corrosion or rust on it. Bolt or nut will never back off as the rotation of the primary is opposite as long as you tighten the crap out of it. Or torque it to spec if you wish. Works for me, so I'll keep doing it. You can struggle on your setups.

That ground is one of your main body grounds to your wiring harness relays. Checkout the impeller woodruff key and impeller blade on that part of it. That starter solenoid could be going out on that also. Thae other is check your thermostats on the upper and lower lines for proper coolant Flow. And 180° degrees test them in boiling hot water.

Almost there Joe! Disconnect the hot line and make sure you got flow, there isn't much on a utv. If there is flow then an air bubble or pocket can inhibit flow, the weak pumps will just try to compress the air also check your thermostat. If no flow, hey you got experience pulling the engine for water pump work!

Why don't you check to see if Can Am makes an aluminum gear kit for those 3 or go have them cut at a machine shop? I know a couple shops that would cut gears. Could have them Laser cut at 100/hr and machined at 50/hr + cost of material. Could do flat gears in 5mm thickness and add sleeve spacers and copper washers for alignment. Aluminum and Copper slide and work nice with each other when lubed.

The one-way bearing in that primary you probably don't want to take apart again is boned. That's why it's not idling very well. The secondary shouldn't spin at idle. As for the secondary coming off, that's a torque-to-spec bolt. Can-am guys know that's a one time use bolt. Every time you pull the secondary you pay the $8 for a new bolt or risk paying $400 for a clutch case and secondary spring.

When filling the cooling system you should do it from the highest point you can. Either the blue hose or if it has a heater core it might be higher. It may be very low on coolant. For idle quality always start by cleaning the idle air controll valve and throttle body with the valve removed.

Well it’s really frustrating but keep up the good work Joe. Worth trying the “easy” stuff like checking the radiation for blockages, removing the thermostat, before checking the water pump impeller because I’m pretty sure that requires the engine to be out but maybe you can reach it from underneath. I’m willing to bet the impeller is plastic too and has melted, too bad they’re using so much plastic on engine internals.

The Secondary Clutch came off because you probably didn’t align the helix with the back of the clutch. There are three ears on the helix that have to slide into three slots in the back of the secondary. If you tighten it down without aligning the helix it will come right off as soon as you put it in gear. Also noticed you removed the one way bearing from the primary which is a big no-no if you’re not paying attention. There are two springs in the one way bearing that will fly out when you pull it off, just speaking from experience on that one lol

I think that stripped gear definitely had something to do with the rod bearings going. Could have the crank stripped the teeth on that main water, oil gear? Weird it's plastic. Hmmm interesting

Check the thermostat, that will stop coolant flow.

Check your coolant level I was positive i had my rzr was bled out. But after a good ride it let me know different. Just had to let it idle a long long while and add more coolant!

It might have just been the casting from the factory or the camera but it looked like there was galling on the case behind the oil pump which is the gear that failed. maybe there is supposed to be a washer or shim back there? The first rule of repair is to know what caused the failure you are repairing or it will just happen again and wreck all your new parts. But, it could be just a weak plastic gear. Hard to believe they put plastic in setups like that but it is used in a lot of small engines these days.

Have you checked the thermostat, it may be stuck closed and not allowing the coolant to flow

Looking for shards of metal in the pump, flush with WD-40 and hover the area with your magnet on a stick is the way to go.
