And for harp horror, which is in a half gem sales box, using money is literally the worst investment one can make, specially when you only need 2 harps to play orcust.

Honestly, 200$-300$ isn't even that deep of a gacha hole for this game. I recall spending around 300$ per deck in this game. Cards are constantly scattered across multiple packs/boxes and you often need dupes so you dig through them to the bottom pack. That's even if you only buy them out when they're on sale and there are special offers

@@illdoittomorrow2368 There are decks you can build rather cheaply, there are always compromises you can make and spend smarter. That being said, if you want to play a deck you actually want to play, even if it might not be meta (like the XYZ Union monsters), you'll either need to dig through multiple packs to their entirety (which will cost you around ~150$ per pack/box during a sale), or dig through one pack/box several times (same pricing applies). Sometimes you'll get lucky and get the card you want early, then you can reset the box and save some money having "only" spent around 25$-50$ green. Another awful problem with this is that the rest of the pack's cards will be awful filler so anything's that not the exact card you want will almost certainly be entirely useless to you, because it'll either be some ancient meek stat vanilla monster (who can forget such modern pack fillers like "Bat" and "Wolf" and "King Fog"), or a random archetype piece you'll need to fork another 200$-300$ to make it worth anything. Sometimes you'll pull a UR staple on the side, that's on your good days. Now, some DL players will say that "you don't TECHNICALLY need to spend any cash". Technically you can get quite high up the ladder playing purely free decks from grinded gems that cost little to nothing to put together. That's TECHNICALLY true. There are solid FTP decks in the game that'll carry you to the higher ranks in ranked (heck, you can get to Gold playing most of the Structure Decks with a few strong staples, probably). Still, I don't consider a game where you can't play the deck you actually want to play and you're just using the bustedest cheap cards actually PLAYING and ENJOYING the game. You're pretty much just a zombie drone at that point. Not to mention that pretty much all of those FTP decks are horrid cancerous OTK strategies that rely on being the underdog and leaving your opponent little to no chance of counterplay. Also, those FTP decks don't age too well, so you end up spending hours upon hours of grinding "free" gems only to see your precious weekly/monthly pet project getting awfully power-crept out of relevance or Konami shooting it in the knee caps because enough people made very valid complains about your deck being awfully unfun to play with and against. Not playing DL is like not doing heroin - a really good and financially sound idea.

Most tournament winning decks on DLM only use 2 or 1 Harp in the Knightmare Mermaid variant, which is the more consistent version of the deck. It's completely his fault that he wasted over $100 on an old box digging for a single sr that he didn't even need. Hell the dumbass didn't even need to spend any cash to get his third copy, all he had to do was wait a few days and He'd have gotten a third SR dream ticket for free from the anniversary rewards.

Hell, the Gate Guardian skill even allows Orcust to start the combo using no cards from deck, while also being unable to brick.

Tbh I'm surprised it's alive with how shitty the pay to win system is . All the f2p decks get nerfed into the ground. It's kinda why I stopped playing so Long ago. I stopped a bit before automats became a thing.

@@ducky36F nah there’s a fair amount that also get on the game for a little while, use the free 500 and realize that’s not enough and then don’t whale because they aren’t making content and their money back. Even smaller percentage grind free gems and end up with a deck that’s good for a month before the banlist or new pack come out

I don't think I have spend 200$ in total playing Master duel since it was released....... Reading horror stories of how much money people pumped into their duel link deck only for it to get nucked by the ban list a week later is more than enough reason to stay far far away from it.

It's because Master Duel has to compete with the physical card game, so if the price gets higher than the tcg or ocg it'll be less popular. And if it's too expensive it could detract from the sales of the physical product. Their still making a killing though. What's the alternative to duel links IRL? Speed duels? Not exactly a popular format.

Tbh, duel links is also about knowing how and where to invest. Like, here, there was no need to use money on the harp horror, 1 was enough to play the deck, 2 makes it better, 3 was overkill. And on top of that, that box is one of the ones that get the half gem sales from time to time, meaning that harp horror is much easier to get now. So for example, IF the half gem sale was happening back then *(which it wasnt, but it happened some days after the orcust box was released, and its still ongoing now)* , he could have gone and used his gems on that box, and get twice the packs he would normally. Then used money on the newer box that didnt get included in the sale, since in the end, 1/2 galatea/ding are enough for orcust. Theres a reason why theres a shit ton of guides on how to spend your money as a new player, whats the best cards to get with a dream ticket, and whatever. Also, never build a tiered deck, specially right before or during a kc/wcs. Orcust will get hit, that is 100% happening, its almost a t0 deck in duel links.

Here's my cope: when you actually play the game you don't need to spend that much. Not only that but knowing how to build the deck won't lead into looking for more cards than needed, thus managing your resources is pretty important. For example: I saw content creators spend about $120-$300 getting the tears when it was newly released, but I only spent 5k gems and some crafting to get them. Same for Duel Links, I built Orcust with only gems. P.D. Master Duel economy is really an utopia imo, crafting is just way too good

Simple, I spend my gems during discounts periods (the only exception to this is if they release supports for my favourite archetypes) and I don’t give a shit about reaching king of games rank. I just play in silver/ legendary rank and I’m having fun anyway :)
