life changing tip for your french press: don't dump all the hot water in at the same time. pour a little bit of water in at first to let the coffee "bloom", before pouring the rest of the water in!!!! used to dump it all in, but i used this method and never looked back!!!

So I don’t know if you are American, but I actually found out recently why Americans don’t use electric kettles as much as we do here in Europe. The voltage is half - American voltage is only 110v vs 220-230v here. So electric kettles boil much slower than just using a stove top one. I thought that was super interesting. My kettle has a fast boil setting and I can boil water in like 1 minute, but my American friends who have an electric kettle it takes more like 5-7.

Former Sbux barista - there are a few things that you can do to make your coffee better! 1. Get a brita - the better your water, the better your coffee (most coffee shops have a multi-filtration system in the back for extra clean & "pure" water). 2. Get a kettle - it will make boiling your water waaaay easier & safer (I have burned my hand on scalding hot water & coffee and while you do get used to it, I still wouldn't suggest it). 3. Grind of the beans - it was hard to tell the grind on your beans, but I would suggest buying them at a local coffee shop and have the barista grind the beans fresh if you don't want to invest in a grinder. Ask for them to grind it for a french press so that the grinds will be coarser and less likely to result in having any grounds or other bits in your cup. It looks like this may have been ground for a paper filter? 4. Let it bloom - pour in a bit of water & stir then let it sit for 30 seconds or so. Then you can pour in the rest of the water all at once or do one half then let it sit and then do the other half. 5. Brewing time - you said on screen that you let it sit for 10 minutes before depressing it which is waaaay too long. Usually 3-4 minutes is best based on how strong you want your coffee, the blend of the beans and the coffee to water ratio that you're using. Hope this helps! I love a cup of coffee from a French press but now that I have an actual espresso machine at home, it's hard to want to make anything else.

Hey girl! I know you probably got a lot of input for making the best french press possible but I thought I would add to that (: 1. Boil water, then let it slightly cool down. If it's boiling, it might crack the french press. 2. pour a bit of water into the french press, swirl it around, then dump it back out. This also prevents cracking! 3. Add enough coffee grounds - I don't weigh it although some people do. I use about 4 teaspoons which works for me. 4. Bloom your grouds. Pour a little bit of water in, then let the grounds open up and begin to release the essences (about 30 seconds) without the lid. 5. Pour the rest of the water in, then let it brew for 3-5 minutes. I use a french press in my college dorm and that's what I do every morning ^ I hope it can be helpful for you (:

For coffee: do 2:30 on the water in the microwave (optimal temp for french press is just below boiling), then bloom your grounds. By adding a little water first, wait 15-30 seconds and slowly add the rest. Then steep for 5ish minutes and slowly slowly push it down. Should up your coffee game a lil bit ☺️

Just a piece of advice with the french press. Maybe heat your water 1/2 the time. It will make the coffee to acidic if it is too hot. Once you put the water over the grounds let it sit for 4 , when you leave it longer it saturates the water.

Another excellent video! Definitely the Bob Ross of dorm life, somehow. Oh, something that might help the taste of your French press coffee is getting a cheap and/or small electric kettle. I know you're limited on space, but if you can spare the countertop real estate it might be worth it! Microwaved water always tastes funny to me in coffee and tea, but that may just be me. Anyway, best wishes!

I love using a French Press. It can be tricky though. I'd say use between one-two spoons of coffee. The coffee ground itself can be rated differently, such as, some coffee is grounded for espresso machines others are grounded for filter pour-over. The water temperature has something to do with it as well, as in, don't pour super hot water (boiling) or else the coffee will 'burn' and become more acidic. Definitely pour water in and don't dump the water, this allows the coffee to soak up the water is open up little by little. I'd highly recommend you invest in an electric kettle. If your coffee seems to acidic, I recommend playing around with what I just suggested, last but not least, coffee should sit in the press for about 2-5 minutes, just depends on how you like it. Oh, you also don't need to stir, since you'll be pouring the water in gently it'll stir up a bit. Enjoy your cup of coffee :).

Get an electric kettle for your French press!! I do 1/4 cup grounds for 1 cup of coffee which is about 16oz of water. Let the grounds and coffee sit for 4-6 mins. I don’t stir mine either- I just swirl the water from the kettle with the grounds. And you can also use the kettle for tea :)
