Real Civil Engineer

3 жыл бұрын

This week I'm continuing the Poly Bridge 2 World Tour and recreating three famous French "bridges". If you don't want spoilers please don't read this until you've watched the whole thing!
So our third leg of the World Tour is taking us to the France. We look at the frankly ridiculous Millau Viaduct, one of my favourite bilfs ever! Then we move onto some stonework and enjoy the Morlaix Viaduct. Before moving away from bridges all together, to recreate the incredible Eiffel Tower!
As always, if you enjoy the video please give it a LIKE and subscribe to the Real Civil Engineer channel and enable notifications so you can be the first to know when I post future videos! Thanks!!

Believe me when I tell you my jaw was dropped this whole video. Your skill in recreating these bridges is so fun to watch, and the fact that you spend extra time actually explaining the engineering principles behind each bridge rounds out the whole experience. The music playing in the background was the cherry on top!

Tower Bridge in Sacramento, California USA. I've been to that bridge many times as I was a kid. The color is oddly golden, so as a child I would always mistake its name for the "Golden Gate Bridge." It was built in 1934 for better crossing over the Sacramento River in case of war. Interestingly enough, its vertical lift design still functions to this day!

I'll admit I didn't know about the Morlaix viaduct, even if i'm french. When I saw the two rows of archs, I was like "He forgot a rows of arches if he wanted to do the Gard aqueduct bridge". Sure, the Eiffel tower ain't a bridge, but he built quite a few bridges of his own before building this big radio antenna.. Besides, it was painted in red at one point (but all pictures were in black and white, so, not a big souvenir of this era) And sure, in polybridge like irl, the millau viaduct cost a lot, but it also cost a lot to go through it...

The Centre Pompidou is pretty awesome. It was designed by ARUP, Richard Rogers, and Renzo Piano. The structure of the museum has massive trusses that are 45 meters long and nearly 3 meters tall! These trusses span the whole museum uninterrupted by columns and they rest on gerberettes. The gerberettes use tension to counteract the moment of the trusses, which is really cool. Overall the whole building demonstrates how the structure works for everyone to see.

Bonjour, fellow French native speaker here, we'd say "je me lave LA bite" not "mon" because "me" already carries the possessive property and "bite" is a feminine noun. "Je lave ma bite" would also be grammaticaly correct but doesn't sound quite right to the ear, though you don't hear that sentence often, despite how important it is. Also Millau is pronounced me-o, we do love our silent letters and using 2 unrelated vowels to write the sound already represented by an existing vowel. Why ? Who knows ? I love my native language, but god is it a grammatical and orthographic mess sometimes.

Millau would be closer to me-yo. The reason why "je lave ma bite" sounds not right is because it implies that you're doing it right now, in front of the person you're saying it to. Else, it's a correct sentence, just a weird one.

@Soken50 2 жыл бұрын

You should do the Carrick-a-rede rope bridge or the peace bridge in Derry/London Derry. Gotta represent all the Northern Irish folk

Cool video! Not sure I got the second sentence in French though being a native French speaker, did you say something about washing yourself? Anyway, if you do Canada, take a look at Confederation Bridge and Jacques Cartier Bridge! Or maybe others, I'm no bridge expert! Anyway, love your vids, keep it up!
