Apparently this is the national dog of Madagascar. Tuléar is the former name of the harbour city of Toliara on the southwest coast of the island. The breed's name is literally "Cotton(ball) of Tuléar". Legend has it that they're the result of Bichon Tenerife dogs from Spanish/Canarian pirate ships mating with Madagascan dogs in the 16th and 17th century. So, Gigi is a pirate by ancestry. Yarr!

Got three of these Coton cutie pies. Each is a retired Mom and around nine years old. They are a joy to behold and are the best companions. Each has been groomed hundreds of times and accepts the process without complaint. Cotons are the best kept secret in the dog world!

That looks like Winifred! I got Wini from an animal shelter in 2011 and they listed her as a Scottie mix. I knew she wasn't a scottish terrier, but wasn't sure what she was until 4 years ago when I finally got tired of "What kind of dog is she?". Took a DNA and BAM! Coton de Tulear. 😊 She's an old lady now, but she is the best dog I've ever had.

For anyone who doesn't know Coton De Tulears are an evolved breed of dog from I believe to be Bichon Friese that went to Madagascar along with French settlers a few hundred years ago. They were left with children mainly but also defended houses from the local snakes and other hostile animals on the island and have developed a strong protective instinct of their human family from this. They are a wonderful companion breed and very protective of their family. And I mean cuteness level is 11/10.

So cute! My cotton ball passed away three years ago. She was my best friend for almost 16 years and I miss her so much! She loved the blow dryer but hated to be brushed. So the trimmer/clipper was the best way to keep her tidy! Such friendly happy little dogs with a really fun history!

omg! I had a Coton de Tulear as a kid and no one ever knows what they are. That's so fun to see one on your channel! Mine looked very similar, with the slightly darker ears. When mine was a puppy, she had brown ears and a brown spot on her back but they faded away to a very pale, barely visible tan by the time she was an adult.

My mom’s childhood dog was a poodle deemed slightly imperfect for showing, but according to reports she was perfect at being an adorable pet! She was perfectly healthy, it was just her coat color wasn’t perfectly white.

She is the most well behaved dog on the planet! Cute? Beyond cute. Lovable? Beyond lovable. Man...I want her!!

My 11 yo doggo is a mixed breed in type of Cotton. Just a bit bigger and not as fluffy, fur on his legs is short. He looks like a cotton ball on a 4 toothpicks 😂 He has a character of a Cotton too. He's the sweetest,most patient and playful dog I ever had. Clipping nails,bath, brushing teeth,you name it, absolutely no problem. Even our vet is always at awe how patient and calm he is. We were absolutely blessed with him,I wish he could live 20 more years.

My neighbor has a coton de tulear but she’s all black and her name is Storm. She’s a super talent and fast girl. Her owner takes great care of her and she’s amazing with her agility! I’m so happy you were able to show, I didn’t know about this breed until I met my neighbor and Storm is so great with kids. Her owner trained her well.

I just got a Coton puppy yesterday afternoon! She'll be 3 months next Wednesday. Right now, just trying to get some potty training in. She used my hallway floor yesterday evening, and the bed in her crate late last night when I was sleeping. This morning, she actually used a puppy pad, so I gave her a treat. Eventually, we'll make it outside, but at the moment, when I take her out, she just wants to run around and play. (I don't know her parentage, as she was surrendered to a local vet run rescue. She has a respiratory infection that she's currently being treated with antibiotics, and had base narrow canines removed, so I have to start her on ball therapy soon.)
