My "power center" in our newly-converted DIY 2018 Ford Transit 250 van conversion is based around my multiple Ecoflow units - 2 Delta 1300's, a River Pro + extra battery and a River Max. Ecoflow was one of my corporate partners with my KZfaq van build series. I think they are sending me the Max sometime - I told them not to send me the Pro because I could not fit it into our van the way it is configured, but the Max would fit. It's great being able to tun everything in the van when we do not have shore power - coffee pot, microwave, MaxxAir fan, ZeroBreze portable AC, etc. I have four of their 110w folding panels, but rarely need them since we are on shore power often enough. On our upcoming trip out West, we will be fine at Harvest Host sites and national parks. I have done multiple videos about my Ecoflows too - you did a nice job. Blessings!

Nice. I found that when we had a hurricane in the 1980's and no power for 7 days , the freezer lasted about 3 days with no power at all just by covering the whole thing in blankets.After which we ate everything that was in there. We still have that same freezer LOL. I got the ecoflow river pro last month (way more affordable for us) and I have a couple of fold up solar panels and a couple of other cheaper solar generators so I think we are set. This is the UK though so Solar and the winter are a whole different thing. For us, food would come first then warmth . Everything else can happen off grid.

Great review. One thing I would suggest clarifying is that you state this could be used used indefinately. This solar generator uses NCM cells (a type of lithium-ion) and the company states that after 800 cycles, you will have 80% capacity. That's a nice lifespan, but LifePO4 type batteries will have better longevity than NCM types if that is of importance to the purchaser. I was excited to see you have both bunnies and clover in your yard! They often go together...
@FrugalRepair
@FrugalRepair 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Yes, LPF batteries would have a higher cycle count compared to capacity. Thanks for noting that. But as you pointed out even NMC will last a really, really long time (I don’t know if the usable lifespan is even known because it’s so long). It’s not that the batteries fail at 800 cycles, it’s just the storage capacity could go down.

This was fantastic, exactly what I've been looking for. Numbers on solar panels and generators only go so far, you really need a practical test to get a feel for how long they'll last. In an emergency I'll likely be doing much the same as you, but would like it to last a lot longer, plus have a good buffer. I'm estimating at least 6kwh, and probably 3x300w portable panels to start. I've been looking at all in one systems like the one you have here, but somehow incorporating external LiFePO4 batteries for infinite manual expansion.

Thanks, this sort of confirms the estimations I came up with for my system, a roughly 2.5kw battery with my computer and a few other things as a ~200w load should last about a day with up to 1kw of solar. I'll give them credit as that is an impressive inverter, although at that ouch level price it better be good, for those who haven't looked yet, it's supposedly 19% off at $1700, might be fine for some folks but for me, yikes... If you don't mind some DIY work though, you can get 2-3kw worth of cells for around $200 and a decent inverter costs about $200-300 I know it isn't entirely fair to compare DIY/used things to new but at that massive price difference there's no way I could justify buying one of those things.

@vgamesx1
@vgamesx1 2 жыл бұрын
@@musclebuilder3395 Ok and...? What does industry leading fast charge technology matter for a powerwall/portable "generator" type of device anyway? Ideally you should be more gentle with something like that since you'd normally want to preserve its lifespan as much as possible, do you not? More importantly, if that is a real concern then you should probably look for something with LifePo4 cells as those will charge way faster than any other similar size li-ion cell with the larger ones like headway 8AH 38120 cells, which are able to charge at 80A and output 200A continuously for context that would be 10C or 256W of charging per cell. More to the point though, I've already made it quite clear that although it's a good product it isn't for me, in my opinion the price per kilowatt is far more important than anything else, because the battery/inverter is the entire reason to buy something like this... If you want to buy this because it looks cool or has a super fast charger, then go right ahead but don't expect everyone to be equally impressed as you are.
@musclebuilder3395
@musclebuilder3395 2 жыл бұрын
@@vgamesx1 Not trying to impress anyone sir, Just stating the fact that technology cost, and you seem to be blown away by the cost. The new Bluetti's are in the same price range. The fact that it charges faster than anything else is a industry first, which is a major accomplishment, the Delta Pro and Max both have adjustable A/C charge rates. There can be situations were a fast charge is needed, and if that is the case, you have it.

@@vgamesx1 I have dozens of Headways, a few blue, mostly reds. You can sure be brutal to them. Sounds like you have DIY experience with them as well. I built my son a 7200 watt hour solar generator with ''fast enough'' 1100 watt onboard charger to run from his Honda eu2000i generator without beating on it. The Renogy 30 amp solar MPPT is a little small and I could have installed my spare Growatt 120 amp MPPT and piggyback on another Aims 120 volt 75 amp charger if we had a fast charge pissing contest ...but this unit is a custom design to fit under his workbench to run a fridge and chest freezer on a single 410 watt solar panel on his patio roof. Good enough. The 3000/6000 watt surge pure sine inverter, like the 250 amp BMS, and the Aims 75 amp charger are all overkill for his actual usage. I have $2700 in parts in it, 6 weeks of part time building. It gave me free AC every afternoon for the last 3 weeks, too. Here's an unpolished video of it made for my buddy who always criticizes my welds.....but you get the idea. Hello from Phoenix Arizona. Thank you for the video I’m considering buying an eco-flow soon. I’m also having tesla solar panels put on my house on August 16. But I’m not getting the power wall because it’s so expensive. I may add it later. I have a question why were you covering one of the solar panels with the blanket? I must’ve missed that when you explained it or I wasn’t clear why you were doing it.
@FrugalRepair
@FrugalRepair 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! The reason I covered it with a blanket it’s because I did not want a big spark when I made the connections. Since the two panels are wired in series covering one reduces the power to a very low level. You shouldn’t make the MC4 or other connections while under load (especially full sun). I connected everything up then I removed the blanket and then there is no arcing.

I live in Phoenix as well and haven’t been able to justify solar. When I use SRP’s solar calculator, even after 20 years, I am at a net loss of nearly $7,000!! Combine that with the fact that you can’t power your house on solar if the grid goes out and it seems like a waste of money. I looked into a Generac natural gas generator, but they are nearly as expensive as solar! These high powered solar generators seem to be a better alternative to emergency power and they are way more practical because you can take the power with you should you need to evacuate your home and stay elsewhere.
@joeglennaz
@joeglennaz 2 жыл бұрын
@@WanderingAroundAZ What about doing the subscription plan with Tesla? ZERO cost. They get the government rebates and I'm sure they are making a spread on the power but you get solar for no cost and no contract. My understanding is it's $100 down. Then if you want to have the panels taken off you have to pay the $2500 removal fee. But they cover all maintenance ( which there really is none) and if anything breaks i.e. inverter they cover it. I just went with Tesla but I purchased the system. here is how I did my analysis. My power bill averages $200 per month year-round. My monthly payment for the system on a 10-year loan is $146.00 a month. The panels have a 25 Year warranty and Tesla covers anything else that breaks or needs to be adjusted. So after 10 years, I have free power. Now that might not be the most accurate analysis but it was a simple one. Let me know if you see any problems in my calculations. Further. I won't use all the power I generate so I'll sell the extra back to APS to offset what I will need at night. It's just me in the home and I have no pool. I did not get a battery, but I do plan on adding a batter OR doing my own battery set up. I have a good friend that owns an electrical business. I'm going to have him put in a transfer switch so I can plug in an EcoFlow AND Or a gas generator. I'll use the gas just to top off the batteries if needed. I might buy some battleborn batteries and have my buddy wire it all up or I might buy a powerwall later I'm not sure. But I really just want my fridge the plugs in the Master and a portable AC. I think the new Big EcoFlo on Kickstarter should be able to handle that. So fi the power goes out I'll just plug that in and be able to be ok for a few days. Anyway, those are all my thoughts we'll see if it all works out. I also may just skip the big ecoflow as it's pricey and just get the one you have and a gas generator for $600.

Ecoflow says that two Delta Max's can be used with a Smart Home Panel to provide 240V to back up your home. Do you know what that is? Also, can you wire two Delta Max's in parallel and use the second one like an add-on extra battery to get double the run time @110V (for my RV)?
@FrugalRepair
@FrugalRepair 2 жыл бұрын
Check the link above in the pinned comment or the video description and it will take you to the info page on kickstarter to learn about the smart home panel. For Max's in parallel, I'm not sure how you are trying to wire them up. If you want more run time, then I'd suggest getting the extra batteries. There wouldn't be a need to get two Max's. Each smart battery doubles the Max's capacity. Of course, you could get two of the Max's and take the inverter output of one and feed it into the input of the second, but that seems like an inefficient and more costly way to do things. Again, I 'm not sure the setup your thinking about.

@@FrugalRepair Thanks for responding, the info was very helpful. Since my electrical panel is already set up for backup with a dedicated 240V receptacle for a gas generator the smart home panel isn't a good option for me - however it looks like they also have a Double Voltage Hub that produces 240V. It works with the Delta Pro, but the Delta Pro is just too heavy to load into my RV. I couldn't find if the Double Voltage Hub also works with the Delta Max. Since two Delta Max's are needed to get 240V (with the smart home panel) I would want to run the two of them in parallel when they are in my RV producing 110V and only use them for 240V when the power goes out and I need to back up my home. Ecoflow is risking having too many products with options supported by only some of their products, very confusing.

Properly maintained it should last many more years than that. It is rated for after 800 charge cycles to then have a capacity of 80%. Why don't you have power with solar panels only? Aren't there inverters in your system that you can use? Microwave?? How many watt
@FrugalRepair
@FrugalRepair 2 жыл бұрын
It could run a microwave just fine. A more powerful microwave is around 1,200 watts so it's well under the ability of the 2,400W inverter
