Jesse Enkamp a.k.a. "The Karate Nerd" teaches Icy Mike from Hard2Hurt a traditional Okinawan Karate kata called Gekisai (Ichi).
Whether you practice Muay Thai or Kyokushin Karate, all martial arts are just variations on the same combative themes. By learning from each other, we can gain a new perspective on our own style.
I hope this video inspires modern MMA fighters and athletes to connect with traditional martial arts, just like Icy Mike ‪@hard2hurt‬

My respect for Jesse has increased so much after this. Not only did he find humor in Icy Mike's original video from last year, but he also took time to give him an old school Karate lesson this year. And I do believe Mike learned some things that he can use in his own training and possibly with his instruction to his students. The day you stop learning is the day you stop breathing.

I was put off with traditional Asian martial arts because no one gave the meaning behind the katas. Also coming up in a rough neighborhood, you need results yesterday. Not months or years. I like that Sensei Enkamp confronted his critic with understanding and a willingness to inform. Shows a lot of maturity and wisdom. I would have blown my stack. Nice nice video.

A piece of advice my father gave my younger brother recently(hes one of the sensei in our dojo) for hip movements is to think of it like a bow: the first movement is to gather power in the clambering of the punch, like the drawing of an arrow, and the second is to release the punch and follow through with the power, like how a bowstring pushes foward on the arrow as it releases. Maybe this would be helpful to a beginner like mike?

That was exemplary of Jesse and genuinely respectful of Mike to do this and be accepting. You both put your egos aside and showed us what it's like to be good people at heart. This is what we should be like today in our day of toxic intentions. I am not into martial arts, but you've both earned my respect just for the values you've shown. Isn't that what martial arts is also about? I wish you both well.

This guy reminds me of my 1st teacher. I was 7, the karate kid just came out, and this European man who studied tar kwon do in Korea moved to NY, and began teaching kids on a condo tennis court for $1 a class. Got my green belt. Same energy and personality as this guy.

Congratulations to you both - what an amazing union. I primarily watch the two of you on YT and have always been a big fan of you both. IcyMike made me laugh with his impressions (he even shaved his beard!) and I was very impressed with his comments on being devil's advocate, he's open and honest. This has only made me respect you both so much more.

Fantastic video Jesse! Mike-san is a very quick learner... Great to understand the application of the moves within the kata, rather than just seeing it as a “dance”. 👊

Sir. I have watched your videos for a while and have greatly enjoyed them. I appreciate your attitudes towards martial arts and karate more than anything. It’s the exact opinions an attitudes I teach. Movement is movement is one of our favorite matos. This is a perfect example of what as martial artists and karateka we are supposed to do when faced with negativity. Thank you sir.
