I saw your video on using the press and seal to help stabilize Minky dot to make a blanket and my mind was blown 🤯!! In a good way 😊 I recently have started a rag quilt for a granddaughter that some of the squares are Sherpa backed with Sherpa! UGH!! Frustration through the roof!!! I watched every video I could find regarding sewing on fuzzy fabrics. Then it dawned on me to try your tip with the press and seal. But I added the idea of press and seal to top and bottom. It definitely helps!!!! Thank you so much for your videos!!!!

The sew lush is such a pain to work with but I back all my quilts in that and fleece and hear RAVE reviews everytime. I with pieced tops, all I can say is PIN PIN PIN. The fleece doesn’t crawl like the sew lush does, but can get stretched when pinning because I tape my backing to the floor with masking tape, then use spray AND pins. I will absolutely trying the press n seal for the edges though, that’s brilliant, especially because the sew lush sheds like a cat!! Pinking shears make worse, by the way!!

Great video! I need tips on how to tackle EXTRA LARGE blankets. How do you keep the two layers together when the blankets are adult sized (50x60 and larger)? My current method is to use curved quilt pins in the middle where the shifting tends to happen the most during sewing/handling and then also pinning the edges to DEATH with straight pins, but I still have issues with the layers shifting on me and it's driving me BANANASSSSSS! Help! Lol😆

I think if you have someone help you get all 4 sides smooth and straight and use PressNSeal to hold top layer to bottom layer making sure bottom layer is at least 2 - 4 inches bigger all the way around, it should hold together to stitch it. You are making a blanket not a quilt, right?

Hi Robin, New subscriber here. I'm a lifetime sometimes sewer though inexperienced with fancy machines and techniques. Can you explain a bit about what the special needle and walking foot do? Also are these something I can use on my basic Brother machine? I have a lot of trouble with fabric creeping on itself when sewing. Thanks, Dan Scott
@RobynsLoveofSewing
@RobynsLoveofSewing Жыл бұрын
Hi Dan, Thank you so much! welcome to my channel.🤗 The 90/14 Stretch needle is used with medium weight stretch fabrics, elastic materials and highly elastic knitwear. The medium ball point, specially designed eye and scarf prevent skipped stitches and make sewing stretch fabrics so much easier. The walking foot evenly feeds layers of fabric through the machine while sewing. The walking foot grips onto the top layer of fabric and helps move it under the needle at the same pace that the machine's feed dogs are moving the bottom layer of fabric. Which makes sewing easier. Really helps stop the creeping fabric problem. Especially if you combine it with my PressNSeal hack. Yes, your brother machine should have a walking foot for it. Check your manual or look online for a walking foot for your specific model Brother sewing machine. Yes, your brother will have a 90/14 stretch needle that fits your machine. Hope this helps.🤗 Happy sewing!

Hi Robyn, have you tried using press-n-seal and making a border around a blanket? You know how they will start in the middle and stitch down to like a 1/2 inch on corners to make that border corner? @RobynsLoveofSewing
@RobynsLoveofSewing Жыл бұрын
Hi Sheila, I have not tried doing Minky squares the same size. Only blankets. Maybe try putting Minky squares right side’s together and wrap PressNSeal around both sides to see if that would stabilize them to be able to sew it without it stretching?? I would try that on 2 scrap squares before doing my actual patchwork top , Just a thought…. Let me know if it works. To clarify I would put right sides together and put PressNSeal on top fabric where I’m going to stitch and wrap it around seam allowance to back fabric to hold both pieces together and stabilize it for sewing. I hope this makes sense. Let me know. Thank you for watching!🤗💗

I have a cotton top and double thick (both sides fuzzy)fuzzy minky type stretchy fabric. I’m thinking walking foot and 4.0 stitch. It’s a 50 x 60 -will the press and seal work on that? I mean it’s pretty big compared to your project. Thanks for the help! 🙏🏼
@RobynsLoveofSewing
@RobynsLoveofSewing 2 ай бұрын
Hi, I personally haven’t tried it using a double thick fuzzy minky. But if I was, I would test it on some of that double fuzzy scrap fabric to see if it would work before trying it on your big project. If it works on that then I would definitely use a walking foot and 4.0 stitch length and also I would cut the fuzzy minky at least 4 inches bigger all the way around than the cotton fabric so the press NSeal has a bigger area to attach to and keep the double thick minky more stable. Here is a link to my other video where I show how I use it on minky and flannel, plus I have a free printable Sewing Minky Tip Sheet in my description box of this video. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nLKDrK6Bpp7dcYU.htmlsi=diFQBI8XD2CjoteS Thank you so much for watching!😊🌸 Hope this helps you!😊

@@RobynsLoveofSewing once you start making pajamas it's hard to stop! I get my patterns by going to thrift shops and buying worn out footed PJs and taking them apart. You cut the front in one piece and apply the zipper face down on the wrong side from center front angled down one of the legs. Stitch around the zipper, flip it over and cut through the front right over the zipper teeth. Voila, you have put the zipper in: no need for a turned edge, a placket opening, or to otherwise finish the edges of the zipper opening because it is fleece and it won't fray. So right there, your pattern cost only $3 instead of $20, and installing the zipper, which is the most intimidating thing in footed PJs, is easy-peasy. Zig-zagging in a piece of elastic across the ankles isn't hard, or you can cut the feet off and cuff the ankles For the feet, if the child is walking I use rubber shelf-lining to make the soles slip-proof. I cut the tops off of a pair of socks to cuff the sleeves, and another pair of socks can be sacrificed to cuff the ankles if you don't want them to be footed.

Hi Sue, sorry it took so long to answer, but I wanted to test it before answering your question. But when I went to test it I couldn’t find any of my minky! But I finally tested it today and it worked on my serger. I only tested a 6 “ x 8” piece of minky with a 5”x7” cotton fabric using pressnseal and it went through my serger fine.

I was almost ready to give you a score of 100% but I have to downgrade you to 99.7 lol because you didn’t tell us what type of thread you were using which is just as crucial as everything else. You are one of the very very few on KZfaq who bother to give us the stitch length and the type of needle. That’s one of my biggest pet peeves. When I bought my Juki and was doing the test drive, the dealer told me that it’s named a walking foot for a reason. 😆😆 You are not supposed to sew fast with a walking foot .LOL 🤣 Should you do something similar to this in the future I am suggesting that you use a contrasting thread color so that we can see the stitches but you have to hold it up to the camera and give it a chance to adjust the auto focus
