I was surprised at a few things after testing out Marsblades to see if I could improve my skating without access to the ice. Here's what I learned.

I had been messing around on my Marsblades for the past 2 years, but really only focusing on my stickhandling. But without access to ice, I wanted to see if I could improve my skating using only Marsblades, so I put them through some skating tests.
There were a few things that surprised me which I cover in the video, along with 9 skating drills that are perfect for Marsblades (or probably any inline skate).
H/T to Valley Apex Training Grounds for some drill ideas. Check him out!

I got back on the ice after more then 20 yrs last winter. A long time but me an my friends remembered how much fun we had in our younger days so we went to the rinks plenty of times, regained some skills and even practised for more skills that we were not aware of back then. When the season ended we were sad. Still so much to learn and to improve. Well, somebody told me about Marsblade and I ended up buying a Marsblade Boot with the O1 Chassis. I don't remember how regular inline skates felt but my first impression on the O1 was: it feels very very similar to being on ice! I am so happy that I bought these. During the last weeks I gained more skills and could continue to practise drills that I could not finish during last winter. I would 100% recommend Marsblade. The technology feels great and even their own skates are of great quality!

Great review and completely agree. Last summer I used Mission inlines and the transition back to ice was awkward. I recently had the O1 Marsblade chassis mounted on 70k’s and the difference is significant. Like you said a great workout that more closely simulates being on the ice. Always appreciate your training and fitness videos!

Thanks, Kevin. You are right on with your review. I've been training with Marsblades for a year now, and it's taking some time to see where they help and where they don't. They are a training tool, with some positive carry overs onto ice, but wipeouts are painful. Best, in my mind, for leg strength drills, crossovers, mohawks, and working on stickhandling/puck control. Thanks for making the video and highlighting some excellent drills.

Good info here! I’ve been training/ skating on these exclusively for the past 5 months. I just had my first skate yesterday. It was eluded to in this video earlier, but I cannot stress enough how much of a transition it is back to ice! I honestly felt like I had forgotten how to skate. I genuinely pride myself on my ice skating abilities and it was shocking the unbalance and how much you teach yourself on roller blades to roll out instead of quick stop and starts and sharp turns. Although I noticed a significant improvement to my stick handling and shot. Last thing I’d recommend is to use Labeda asphalt wheels they have better grip and last longer. Overall a really good product and I wish I had them when I was younger would certainly help hone skills and push you to the next level.

Interesting technology 🤔. Seems logical. I’m currently shopping for a new pair of in-lines for off ice training. My old Tour inlines I had back in the day (been 20 years since I last played) had offset axle bushing holes in the center to create a rocker. I also ran different center wheels than the outers.

Great assessment. The drills you provided are great. I have both Roller Hockey and Mars Blades. I prefer the Mars Blades over the roller blades for feel and ice training. I have found that transitioning from roller blades to ice skates requires about 10 mins on the ice to get your feeling for it. I bought Mars Blades in 2021 for me and my daughter to train with.

@@sleepingpanda8927 They were great for both for me, but in town make sure to get some harder wheels and maybe tighten the rocker until you become used to it. I find them to be like an all in one off I’ve skate. You can buy so many kinds of wheels too, ones that can mimic edges (as close as you can get anyway) and various strengths, I can get away with the wheels they came with because I’m not very heavy on pretty smooth cement in town, or an outdoor court or tennis court etc, but anything more rough I would get harder wheels to swap out or the ones they come with will get chewed up pretty quick.

I might need to change my setup on my Marsblade... I was always scared by rollerblading, because going back on ice skates after practicing all summer on rollerblade is weird as hell! I've been using the O1, which is the whole Marsblade skate, and yesterday I played my first actual ice hockey game for over a year and oh boy was it odd. It was on a 3 vs 3 rink, so the oddness was even more noticeable.

Are the Marsblades any better than putting slightly smaller wheels on the front and back position of your roller blades? I know this only gives you 2 wheels in contact at any time instead of 4, but to me it feels more like the real rocker of ice skates.

How do you find the transition from these roller blades to on ice? About a month ago hockey had got postponed for about 2.5 weeks and I decided to go on my regular hockey roller blades everyday to work on skills. The problem was that when I got back on the ice after a while, I felt like I couldn’t skate for the first 10 minutes back on the ice. That first practice back was definitely brutal, but since I’ve been back on the ice a lot, everything came back to me. I still want to be on roller blades to work on skills but I don’t want it to greatly affect my on ice performance. Would you say that the marsblades work well?
@hockeytraining
@hockeytraining 3 жыл бұрын
Great question. The transition was seemless for me last summer when I used the Marsblades to work on stickhandling and then played rec games two days later. With that said if you have an important tryout/game I would get back on the ice once before so you can avoid any chance of that awkward feeling stage.

About the same from what I can remember. The difference would be I found that opening up into the mohawks was easier, so you target different muscles there (but if you have no problems with mohawks on regular blades then it shouldn't make a difference).

Heey i play roller hockey and may be the problem of the grip is because you don’t have the appropriate weels or the floor isn’t good, maybe in a rink with a good floor and the appropriate weels (with these i mean the appropiate hardness or softness) you’ll be able to do more things and you’ll have much better grip
