The battery trick works on the basis of a balanced charge. the charger won't charge if the battery is below a certain Amperage. By using another battery, you are getting the "bad" battery above that cutoff voltage :)

Thank you! I was wondering.

@@maddogshwa You are welcome. I found this out with some batteries at work we use for a server lift. The internal charger wouldn't charge because it thought the low voltage was a dead battery.

Is there some risk to this method? It seems like you are basicly doing a short circuit for this to work, but I am not good with electronics that's why I am asking.
@deathwatch76
@deathwatch76 Жыл бұрын
@@pitsahat2 There is but minimal. You are just making a closed loop. Battery A and B basically swim in the same current pool. As long as you don't crosswire and keep an eye on it. You should be fine. Greatest risk is an internally shorted battery

It's likely that they're pouring Tin, which melts around 450° F, not Aluminum which would be around 1200° F. The flash point of wood is around 700° F, so it's likely they're using the former rather than the latter. The finished product would look very similar.

@Caro2Late 8 ай бұрын
@@R__A You're right. I'll add this note to it: A flash point is not where something starts burning, but will burn when you set it on fire. While an ignition point of something is a temperature where a material will start burning on its own.

the chargers are designed to look for a minimum voltage - if its below that threshold it will not charge as the manufacturer assumes that several cells are defective if that low and they don't want to have a battery fire lawsuit when a cell explodes the bridge wires allow some charge to enter it, allowing it to then be above the threshold

somewhat related to that crayon one, when I want to do an inlay pn the top of boxes, I rout out the words or line drawing, using the smallest dovetail bit I can find, usually 3/16 or 1/8. then I fill it with solid core solder, and run over it with the soldering iron to melt it. it fills in the undercut, which locks it in. then scrape the top flush with the wood. looks really cool and is SO much easier than other line inlay methods I have done.

The battery thing reminds me of an old mechanic trick for trickle chargers. A lot of time they won't initiate a charge is they're dead flat, so you hook one good battery up to the flat one to get some pixies dancing around, the trickle charger sees it and kicks on, then you unhook the good battery. Some kind of safety mechanism I think. But who needs safety when you've got stuff to do lol
@animationcreations42
@animationcreations42 Жыл бұрын
I always keep an old battery topped up just for this, it's too dead to use for the car, but it's enough to give life to other batteries! I also have one of those cheap and nasty battery chargers just for reviving dead batteries, it just pumps out 12V so will charge a fully dead battery. Once it's got a bit of juice in it, I'll move it over to the 'good' charger!
@bengrogan9710
@bengrogan9710 Жыл бұрын
You're right it's a safety, if below a certain level it's usually a sign of defective cells (A 12v Carbattery is actually 6x2v cells) and forcing charge into defective cells can either overheat them and spill the battery acid in lead batteries or cause the forbidden Capri-sun in Laptop/Phones

The batteries work that way cos the charger has a self test, if the battery charge is too ran down it can be dangerous to charge them, doing the battery to batter adds a lower amount of charge to push up the dead battery very slowly. It's still not 100% safe so have a sand bucket and extinguisher on standby, but can work. Also... instead of bare wires I made a set using crimp on spade connectors, means no loose wires can touch something they shouldn't and they just slot into the contacts

You can also just leave the bad battery in the charger and quickly plug in and unplug the AC cord into an outlet. This sends a little voltage surge to break up the internal crystalization that is preventing it from recharging...a little bit easier.
@randomlinuxuser
@randomlinuxuser Жыл бұрын
Crystalization only happens in lead acid batteries and hand tool batteries are typically Li-on. Not to mention decrystalization techniques don't actually work, as Great Scott discovered in a recent video. What you're actually doing when you quickly plug and unplug the cord is providing a little bit of charge to the battery before the battery charger registers that it's too low to charge and errors out.
