Being primarily a pastel artist, I love seeing other artists giving the medium a try. I’m never offended by someone not liking to use pastels! 🤣 There are some mediums I don’t really enjoy using myself but I love the work other people do with them. It’s good to experiment and use things you wouldn’t usually. If nothing else, it’s just good fun! 😌

when it comes to paper I'd recommend using pastelmat for layering it's much better than canson pastel paper (trust me) you are gonna like it. For base colors I actually think pan pastel would be ideal, it isn't like normal soft pastels it doesn't get that dusty .It won't trigger you even Lisa from Lachri Fine Art likes it.

You look absolutely gorgeous. My city has a large yearly art fair that attracts people from all over the world & that's where I learned about pastel pencil. The artist described her chosen medium as painting with diamonds so I've been mesmerized by them from a distance. I am happily married to watercolor, lol & don't have a desire to step too far outside of the watercolor family. The closest thing to an art supplies I hate is digital art. I love seeing others create it, but I just can't make sense of it. I can sketch well enough but adding color is not something I want to spend time learning. I'd just rather spend time with watercolor. Few things inspire the same passion or wonder.

I just bought soft sticks, nupastel firm sticks and pastel pencils with my Christmas gift card. I found pastelmat card stock is wonderful to work them on. I did an under wash with watercolor, on watercolor paper and painted a couple of coats of clear gesso on over that and then pastels over the dried gesso, it was a lot of fun. I love watercolor, but I have to say that I am enjoying the pastels as well. Thought I’d give myself a new challenge in 2022. I really enjoy your content and all the medias that you demonstrate, your videos are so calm and relaxing. Thank you

Yes! Describe your process. I love it when you show yourself working and explain how you think of show what you are doing. I find it less interesting when artists show only the beginning and the finished piece. My least favorite art supplies seem to be the chunky ones, like gelatos or the fancy crayons like Neocolors. Maybe it's a texture thing, or maybe I just work too small...

My mother took me to a lady for art lessons when I was 12 or so, and in addition to learning about perspective and charcoal drawing, pastels came into the course… I don’t remember a lot from the pastel part of the course, but watching you with these pencils seems to be bringing it all back into my memory. All I keep thinking now is “ oh no! More art supplies to purchase!” …great video!

I love the idea of things like pastels and colored pencils, but I always end up going back to watercolors and acrylic. My least favorite art supply is oil paint because I can't figure out how to use it. I tried once and was so confused and disturbed I totally swore off them. I tell people I love any art supply except oil paint 😅

I struggled with them at first too because I kept treating them like acrylic... there not thus require different techniques. Look up the youtuber Paint Coach, he's really good at explaining oil paint for beginners. Dare I say, I'm an intermediate oil painter now because of him.

Firstly, Mira I am so happy for your good news you posted the other week. God is good! My Prayers go out to you for a safe & healthy pregnancy. I love watching your videos, they are so relaxing. Your humble and sweet nature really comes through on your videos. I dislike pastels because of how they feel, but when I see others make art with them it turns out beautifully. Btw, the texture of your paper would make a great pop art piece, and I love when you share what Audiobook you're listening too. I have to add more to my list so feel free to share ideas!

I love that you talk through your process! I'm not a fan of tutorials. I don't want to replicate what an artist does, so tutorials don't do it for me. I find it so relaxing and inspiring watching other artists do their thing. I am interested in artists thought processes while they create not how to copy what they are doing. Idk, maybe that is just me. My least favorite art supply is oil pastels. One time, one broke and a little piece landed on the carpet. I was dumb and tried to vacuum it up like regular pastel and oh my goodness, it just made such a disaster on the carpet!! Let me tell you, oil pastel is not coming out of carpet. There is no solution on earth that will get that mess cleaned up. Ha ha. But, I did just buy a small set to give them another go...I no longer have carpet in my studio so maybe its safe to try again. But I can say, whenever I go into an art or craft store, all the art supplies call my name...really loud! It's deafening and really hard to control myself. :)

I have similar sensory issues when using pastels or anything of that sort. When blending with graphite or a similar art supply, I tend to gravitate towards using q-tips or tissues since I can't stand the sound that blending stumps make when rubbed against the paper.

I haven't had much luck with pastel pencils. I can't seem to get past the stage where half of my drawing is just dust sitting on the page and it gets blown or brushed away. I did buy myself a year of Skillshare for 2022, so maybe I'll take a pastel class. I see people getting great results with them, especially when mixing with colored pencils. My results are not so great.

You should give Panpastels and CPs a try. The underpainting of Pans allows the CPs to glide across the paper and blends easier and faster. Also is easier to use (to me) and faster than pastel pencils alone. Pastelmat is my favorite paper for all of them. It takes a beating and tons of layers. It has a good bit of tooth but it will allow a smoothness in the piece.

I am not an artist (more of a writer) and I don't do art very often but, when I do, I always reach for soft pastels and acrylic paint (but not at the same time!). I just love the way that soft pastels blend together so easily and seamlessly. And the way that acrylic paint is so opaque and dries so quickly (Made a mistake? Just cover it up!). I think I need some of these pastel pencils and that tool you were using to blend it all together (what was it called?) - surprisingly, I do have sensory issues too! - for the next time I want to draw a land-, sky or seascape!

I like pastels, I use them mostly for shading, but when you see an artist who does nothing but pastels, their paintings are so intriguing and beautiful. It's always interesting to hear the thought process of another artist and fun, it's like "Oh yeah, I find that satisfying too" something as simple as peeling off the tape at the end of a project, so in that way, it's a tutorial from you IMHO. My least fave? I don't think I have one, though I have yet to try oil pastels.

Oh my gosh I just bought those for myself for Christmas!!! I got the set of 12 just in case I didn't like them. They are very chalky ... I thought they would be creamier. No regrets. Okay now that I'm watching the video I think I may need to re-evaluate these pencils. I used smoother paper (All 3 drawings on Instagram) and didn't really use anything to blend. Going to have to visit Blick online to find that blender palette knife and pastel paper!!

Wire sculpting is my least favorite art medium. I had to take a 3D art class for my degree and I just failed so badly at wire sculpting. It hurts my hands, you gotta be so careful when cutting the wire not to have the end snap back and take your eye out and it just wasn't my jam. I'm so impressed with people that do those huge wire sculptures for gardens! I used to hate pastels, but after taking a class on them I felt way more confident and I appreciate it more than I did even if it's not my go-to. I got used to the sensory side of things, but it's still not my favorite. Your picture turned out way cute! Thank you so much for sharing

OMG I too have sensory issues with certain textures. I always thought I was just weird because my husband doesn't have any issues with textures and it's not something I've talked to anyone else about except my husband. I love baking but I can't stand the feel of flour or even just watching someone else rub flour especially if the sounds are present. I get goose bumps all over and the skin on the back of my neck gets a very weird and unpleasant sensation. Plus if it's really bad I'll get like a full body shiver. But even still I force myself to touch and handle flour even though if drives me nuts. I'll be honest this video was a little tough to watch whenever you did the blending. Buuuut I'm going to watch this until the end. Congrats on your pregnancy as well. That's awesome and I hope everything goes smoothly for you and nothing replaces that first moment you lay your eyes on your LO and hold them in your arms for the first time, and well everytime after that. Edit: The pastel family are my least favourite art supplies as well, but that's only because of the sensory issues; if it weren't for that I would have tried these ages ago. Part of me still wants to try though... so maybe one day

I love the snow as well! I got hit with the storm and we got about a foot over here, though it wasnt as nice as I still had to walk a mile to my first class of the morning when it was in the midst lol.

My least favorite is also pastels as I also deal with that weird texture thing about them. But I’m interested in the blending tool so I think I’ll try that and see how it goes. In my opinion nothing beats prismacolor colored pencils they’re my favorite to work with. I’m glad I found your channel it’s nice to watch someone I can relate to and you are also a lefty like me

I initially bought a set of cheap pastel pencils and hated them. Luckily our art shop sent a Caran D'Ache pastel pencil as a free gift so I'm now saving for a pro set :) It's like chalk and cheese.

You can use eye shadow makeup brushes/pads too . The blend most pencils and pastels.

I live in Northeast Ohio. We had 22 inches of snow on Monday. Today is Wednesday and we finally have the driveway and path from the back door to the mailbox cleared.

I'm currently completing an associate's degree in visual arts and we focused on soft pastel in drawing class, along with graphite and charcoal. Three art supplies I thought I hated! They're not so bad when you have a good teacher. The art supply I hate the most is gouache, because I'm too accustomed to watercolor and I can't figure it out! It confuses my brain 😅🧠

I like pastels for an underpainting for coloured pencils, love how quick pastels lay down for blocking in the base to work from. Would like to try pan pastels too, bit out of my budget at the minute, but one day they will be mine lol. I don't really have an art supply I don't like, maybe acrylics but I've not used them much, so that might be why. I loved working with oil paint, but I don't have anywhere to leave it all set up at the moment and I got fed up of cat hairs lol

I love your art, ALWAYS enjoy your videos-but honestly, all I can think about is nicknames for your lil Blubble Flies! Moth man and flower girl. AcrylaJosh and Jessaboard. I’m such a dork.

Love the portrait❤ you made,it's simple but amazing. And my least favorite art supply is acrylics, I'm not grate at using them and they're very messy, but again I'm not good at using them 😔but maybe my mind will change about them.😁
