Today I painted on the teeniest super tiny canvases that I could find! These are only 2x2. I'd love to try to paint even smaller one day so if you know where I can get the tiniest canvases in the world..let me know! If not I may have to make them myself...
🎨This video was heavily inspired/ the idea came from my beautiful friend Mira. She does such a wonderful job with hers!! Please check it out-

I used to draw really small, sometimes even smaller that the canvas shown in the video . Then i discovered Watercolor and Inks and my paintings got bigger, just because its easier to fill larger areas with it. This makes me want to paint something really small again. Love how all these turned out.

From someone who regularly uses 5/0-20/0 brushes for miniature model painting... You cannot push the brush at all or the individual hairs go wonky and are nearly impossible to save. You can't press too hard in the paint, in the canvas, in the pain water, or on a towel. All needs to be gentle downstrokes or light dabs.

I have been painting on 2x2 inch canvases on and off for the past few months. It’s a great way to have fun with art without needing to spend a ton of time or use a bunch of supplies, and it prevents me from making a huge mess too. Lately I have been using Poscas on them, and it’s so nice to just sit on the couch and play with painting. Right now I am doing a series of bugs on them. Also, if you are looking for something to do with them, just add some sticky magnets to the back and use them as fridge magnets. They are the perfect size!

I believe that you did a wonderful job with painting your smallish canvases! I enjoy watching your videos and seeing you create your art is a lovely time, as well as time well spent! I recall creating tiny paintings for the doll houses my grandpa was making for the girls in the family. I used watercolor paper and just marked off the sizes needed like 2x3 inches or 1x3 inches and painting several. I did lil’ landscapes and even a few abstract paintings to color match different rooms in the dollhouses! It was a joy to watch you creating art that you truly enjoyed creating! Thank you for sharing your time and joy of painting with us today!

Chloe, love watching you! Thought I would pass on, if you soak your paint brushes in Murphy’s oil soap over night all dried and crusted acrylic will slide right off. I use enough to cover my bristles only and I use it straight from the bottle. It won’t help bent brushes but you won’t have to worry anymore about dried acrylic, so no more overnight in water and getting bent! I hope this works for you. Xx

I am very late to this, but I love painting tiny and thought these were super cute! Also, I have a tip! A good way to get your tiny brushes to keep their bristles straight is after you clean them and they are still wet, wrap the bristles tightly with a small piece of damp paper towel. As it dries it will contract and pull all the bristles together again.

I attempted the same thing a long time ago. I had to use my magnifying lamp just to find the canvas… At the end I figured that you’d need to use one strand of hair to be able to create a small person or animal. I ended up putting four of the canvas together and created a small scene. It’s been lost in time and it won’t be reproduced any time soon.🤪 By the way, look up miniatures and see if you can find art made on one eyelash…

Hi Chloe, I have recently tried painting the little models you can get and they have some super tiny details on them (usually in the most awkward places on the model too, like the handle of a sword or a sleeping dragon's claws 🤣) I would recommend grabbing a set of nail art brushes. They're basically like Rigger paintbrushes but even thinner and come in different lengths and thicknesses but all of them are tiny enough to paint designs on fingernails so definitely would be good for tiny canvases. Alternatively, Mira (Byler) is always recommending the Arteza detail brushes set and she does a lot of painting on tiny/weird/awkward things videos 🤣 Where abouts in the UK are you from? I can't quite place the accent. I grew up in Leeds but now live just outside Brighton. Do you miss home or is the US home now?

if i get a stray fiber I usually cut it out. the smallest brushes is 20/0 and I have a few and often find even them too big. i need like needle tip brushes. I do alot of work on miniatures. the key to small brushes isnt just the size of the brush but the consistency of the paint. heavy body acrylics are not a good choice as they glob up on the end of the brush. thinning your paints out of using liquid colours (like acrylic ink, or fluid or high flow paints) will allow the tip to remain in tact.

Hi, a couple of thoughts on materials - I had a phase of doing miniature acrylic paintings - found nice quality detail brushes on Amazon, I don't recall the price but it wasn't bad. Also had good results trimming down a small brush to just a few hairs as other commenters suggested. You can get tiny canvases and easels on Amazon or at Dollar Tree. Haven't tried them, so I can't comment on the quality. Gel pens worked for some tiny details, but I think I had to save that step for last because the ink wasn't as permanent as the paint. I switched from canvases to good quality regular paper (like, stationery weight) just taped to a clipboard so it doesn't curl. That way you can create any size you want. Hope this is helpful!
