As a PhD in biochemistry I'm still just very confused by the molecular interaction they claim. Bond builders are easy to understand, the disulphide bond is a weak interaction which can actually be "fixed" by external treatment, but repairing a rupture in an actual covalent bond without a chemical reaction just by supporting it with a peptide? No enzyme? I don't know.. I need some more clarification! Not saying that it doesn't work or anything I just think what they claim it does is a bit far fetched...

I might imagine it as thiols on each end, or many thiols scattered on the peptide. I think the peptide makes it flexible to fill larger gaps. I have no clue though, my degree is in pharm sci
@TheBaumcm
@TheBaumcm Жыл бұрын
@@DenisonLove that would’ve been my suspicion as well, that it’s not repairing the existing bond but rather bonding to fill in the gap, i.e. they’ve figured out what damage looks like on a molecular level and have formulated a specific blend of short chain peptides with specific ends to create a chemical bond in an exothermic reaction as water evaporates
@emilywood6830
@emilywood6830 Жыл бұрын
@@TheBaumcm Based on what you've postulated, would it make more sense to blow dry hair afterwards as opposed to air drying? Or perhaps the results are the same regardless, but blow drying would simply excelerate the reaction (and maybe lead to more even results?).

Great review! I have had both olaplex and K18 used in my hair in professional settings and for me, K18 was the outright winner. Post K18My hair looked as sleek and shiny as when I walked in ore-treatment. My hair is fine, silky smooth and shiny naturally. Post olaplex it had some frizz which my hair never had unless it's been highlighted and no bond/peptide treatment was used.

I have been using this after bleaching my 3a curls and had great results after one use - thick bouncy curl definition! I hadnt realised i had to use it the following 6 washes. It makes sense, because after the 3rd wash, my curls were stringy and not defined. I was only using k18 once a month. I was introduced to this product in the salon and purchased the 15ml to try it. It may be small, but it still goes a long way. I will be restarting my treatment and applying it up to 6 washes. Thankyou! I really do recommend this product if your hair is chemically and/or heat damaged.

Hey Mel, I’m a “curl friend” who has used K18 many times. I definitely appreciate a beautiful difference in frizz and shine after using it as directed. I am still coloring my hair to help blend my silvers, (ain’t booked that young Jack Martin appointment yet! 😂), so K18 stays in my rotation. I love the simplicity of using it AFTER my shower, versus Olaplex which I had to leave in and then wait before showering. I still use my Olaplex No. 7, though. Love your channel, Mel! 😘

I discovered K18 about six months ago (before any hype.) I've been coloring my hair with box dye for years. (I know...I know) transitioning from black to dark brown to cover my gray. I absolutely love K18! I can see a difference - my curls are more defined and less frizzy. I did years of damage and since I discovered this channel I've also started using Curlsmith Bonding curl salve. Between these two products, my hair has vastly improved. It feels smoother and it's stronger. Also never used to use a clarifying shampoo before...also makes a world of difference. I (and my hair) thank you Mell, for these "curl school" valuable lessons.

It's been amazing on my hair!! It transformed my damaged hair after the 1st use I was blown away because I can honestly say my hair has never looked this good before! It looks so healthy now. I've used olaplex in the past and it was nice but to me it doesn't compare to the results K18 has given me. It doesn't dry my hair out it always feels so soft but I still go in with a leave in conditioner I usually use the olaplex bond smoother no6 as my leave in and it works beautifully 💜💜💜

So I relaxed ( at home) my hair after years of being natural. My hair was very healthy but, it definitely was brittle after relaxing- no elasticity and some breakage. I am on my first month of k18 and I have seen a lot of improvement. My hair looks /feels comparable to my natural hair straightened - blow out only no flat ironing. It’s kind of a game changer. I have no damage shedding. The strands that shed normally are stronger. So idk if you are really putting your hair through it, it’s worth the protection. I haven’t gone back to Olaplex but I might alternate for a bit and see how it goes.

hi! fine, porous, colored curly hair person here. i did my last bleach service myself and used the K18 spray and mask combo. the results were astonishing! i have before and after photos and you can see my hair change from lifeless, damaged, very little curl to invigorated with a clumpier, tighter curl pattern. i've used it twice since then and have had less dramatic results, but that makes sense since you explained how it works.

I just did my 6th consecutive wash day with K18. I have coily type 4 hair and I decided to try it because I have a few heat damaged strands after my last silk press. I was a little concerned because afro textured hair thrives on moisture and I didn't know how I would survive without deep conditioning for 6 weeks, but I was pleasantly surprised. My hair stayed moisturized each week about the same, if not better than, when I deep condition and use leave-in. Detangling is so much easier. I have less single strand knots. I lose les hair when detangling. My hair feels amazing. I would detangle and pre-poo with a leave-in conditioner before washing my hair. Then use my K18 and let it sit. Then I would follow up with a styling cream and oil. That's it. I would use a spray leave in to refresh my hair sometimes during the week, but I didn't feel like my hair needed it. Unfortunately, it didn't do much for the heat damage. Some of the strands are curling up a bit more, but not like it should be. But I have no regrets because my hair is so much easier to manage now.

My go to stylist first used olaplex on my hair and I left happy - but I walked in with silk smooth hair and walked out with hair visibly different as the cuticles were open. However, on round 2 she used K18 and my hair felt incredible and looked as sleek and shiny as when I walked in. I guess it depends on hair type etc. I'm definitely going to buy it.

We have very hard water in Florida where I live and it’s damaged my hair so much to the point I can barely detangle my hair with a conditioner. This product is the ONLY thing that’s worked, as well as with a clarifying shampoo. This is an amazing technology they’ve created, but I have very dense and thick hair so I need more than 3-4 pumps and the price tag is definitely high but I’m so happy I found this because it actually works!

Loved everything about this video! I tried this product 3 times before. I did it before I straightened and my curls are similar to Mels and my hair was really shiny and smooth and a lot less frizzy. I am not sure if that was coincidence or my hair is just healthier because I take really good care of it but I liked how my hair look and felt after using it.

I have wavy fine hair but a lot of it. I tried K18 three times and LOVED it but made it very flat and limp but SUPER healthy feeling. I think because my hair is so fine, using the initial 6 times would be tough for me. After 3 I took a break and just used it a 4th after a couple of washes. I love it! Just can’t do the full 6 right off the bat. Great review!!

Interesting. Was your hair damaged? What was the reason you started using it

As someone with curly hair on roaccutaine and having the life force sucked dry from my hair, i tried k18 the other day. AMAZING. Ive never had a product that has actually been a god send. And thats after one time. Ive always been mistrusting of hair products being recomended by people. But this is other worldy.

Hey Mell. Thanks for another great video. If you are using it for 6 consecutive washes, you said it should be used after clarifying your hair. If you wash your hair 1x a week could clarifying 1x/week cause your hair to get very dry?

K18 is legit! I never had a product like it before, I was literally able to lighten my permed/highlighted/color treated hair to platinum blonde in one session and my hair felt like glass! It was so soft and so strong I was blown away. I legit had no breakage and I was shocked by that because even with Olaplex I would always have some type of breakage but with k18 I didn’t. I will not ever stop buying this product. IMO there is nothing out there that can do what k18 does. Biomimetics is there future of haircare. 💜

I have used it for 3 weeks now and I really like my results my hair is very fine and curly. My hair tangles very easily and since I started the treatment my hair feels softer through the week and it is less tangled. I see less hair breakage between washes. It is working for me

Thank you, Mell, for your video. My hair is curly, coloured, thick, and dry and was significantly damaged (fired) by the sun, sea, and hair products. I was frustrated. Cutting most of the damaged hair didn't help; the damage continued like a virus. So I decided to buy the K18 and use it for approximately 1 year. I saw some improvement, the newly growing hair was more resistant. But K18 is very expensive and took too long, so I combined it with Olaplex (No.0 - No. 8) by using the K18 weekly. But the big changer for me was the Multi-Peptides from The Ordinary. I've been using it for over 2 months, but I'm still using Olaplex and K18 (biweekly - in the salon after dyeing and 2 weeks later at home). It is crazy to see how much has improved since I added this final product. A top to bottom cure :D. I'm now going back, slowly, to regular shampoos and conditioners to reduce the use of Olaplex products and keep No.6-9 or No.8-9 ones and the K18 in my routines. I hope this will work ;)

Can I ask what brand shampoo and conditioner do you use. Please include any other hair products as l. ❤❤❤

@@sherihays4559 thank you for asking. For regular shampoos and conditioners, I meant Pantene. I have been using it ever and without complaint, except for the Pink colour series. I don't remember what it is for, but I skip it whenever I see the Pink Pantenes. This series dries my hair, so it is a No-No for me. But because I also get bored of the same product and smell, I'm now trying Pureology (Dry hair - violet) shampoo and condition and I❤it. It smells so good, and my hair is very soft. The bad thing is that is expensive and I like to wash my hair daily or every two days, so I switch them depending on my mood. I'm afraid I cannot stick to only one brand, but Pantene for sure will always remain on my list as a good friend for my curly hair😉

I did get balayage for my hair and as I have long to extra long hair, the hair stylist recommended using K18. Just as you said: I put enough money on my hair and I didn’t want to pinch there. First impression was that my hair was really easy to comb through and the stylist used straightening iron to style after the blonding. My hair felt good. After first shampooing home, I could feel the damage on the ends of my hair. They were really macaroni like. So used the K18 I bought to take with me home: 1. Use did recover some of the texture. After 4. I would say it’s almost as good as my roots, which only have shade, not colored. Of course it’s not a miracle tool, however, it did help with the damage by reducing the brittleness of the ends. One thing my stylist recommended was to wait that 4 min and then apply my own leave in conditioner. So that might be something different. So I would recommend it if you have mix of wavy to curly nordic type fine hair and the water pH is soft (we can drink tap water here). So depending of all the different things (type of hair, treatment, pH, etc) I would recommend to try it out.
