Up Front With Simon Jordan

Күн бұрын

This is Up Front with Simon Jordan. A new show brought to you by William Hill that pulls no punches and tells it EXACTLY like it is.
David James spent 25 years as an elite goalkeeper for the likes of Liverpool, Manchester City, Portsmouth and Aston Villa. Often criticised throughout his career he eventually went on to become England’s number one, winning 53 caps along the way.
Often portrayed in the media as an ‘atypical’ footballer. David joins the show to discuss his up and down career, the so called golden generation and the future of English goalkeeping. All whilst giving an insight into the mind of one of the most unique characters British football has ever produced.

We knew David James for a few years in the 90's when he was at Liverpool. Lovely bloke, lovely family. We used to go to his house, he'd take us to training, picked us up from school...it's always bugged me the criticism he received because i knew how much he cared and how much it hurt him and he was such a genuinely nice fella he didn't deserve it

Asked him for an autograph and he was so sound, he rested 20 silk cut blue on my head to do it 😃 My Da made me a framed picture after it, he became our favorite player instantly. Brilliant as always. David James very underrated, of course had a bad spell as most goalkeepers do but in that era with how vicious the media was he had no chance of recovering to the height of a big club again. Still something to be said about going on to become England no.1 into his 30s after being so low. Fair play.

I feel Simon Jordan's questions and interview technique are more about him putting his opinion over rather than drawing out the opinion of the person being interviewed. I appreciate Jordan covering awkward topics but does he need to layer his opinion before the person gives there stance? In doing so the question becomes loaded and therefore may affect the response. Just a touch more listening and less interrupting would give more of an interviewee's perspective.
@tokhmi2006

You do get that but I also think Simon has he genuine interest in sport and wants to hear others' opinions on his opinions. Also it's leads to a unique interview. If Simon didn't impose himself the questions would be "what's your greatest moment?"

@@HaroldBolton-xs9vd I think we would get a somewhat less Jordan-centric exchange in a scenario where Jordan asks a question, receives a response and then challenges or opines on that response. IMHO it is just the layering of his take before the interviewee has a chance to respond I think may potentially change the response to for example, defensive. As mentioned, I enjoy coverage of difficult subjects and hope that continues but Jordan's interview technique detracts from the final product for me.

Love this podcast and always been a fan of David James, especially as a neutral. Heard on the Fozcast that Fozzy reckons DJ could still play professionally and I think that just shows how respected he is by other professionals. Even the odd dig at John Barnes, Sol Campbell and Razor David James got a little defensive as he didn't want to comment, remaining committed and to loyal to these team mates, which not being team mates for so long just shows true loyalty and what'll always exist. I started this pod when it first started and loved them, but fell behind. In the last two days I've watched 5 episodes. Johnny Nelson tomorrow and Barry McGuigan and then up-to-date (aside from the odd few who I'm not keen on). I'd really love to see you interview Ricky Hatton, Lennox Lewis, Tyson Fury, Amir Khan, Prince Naseem, Wayne Bridge, Ashley Cole, Neil Warnock and many more. This is a top, top podcast!

Simon Jordan is taking it for granted that making a change inherently is a better choice than not making the change, while David James is saying that we don't know that for sure because it never happened.
