I THINK I FIGURED IT OUT!!! Raptor 700 Testing Electrical Components
Before putting my stator cover on, I wanted to check all of my components to make sure none of them were bad. After reading through the service manual I tested the crankshaft position sensor, stator and voltage regulator; good thing I did!
Benchmarks for what I checked...
Crankshaft Position Sensor continuity - 0:49
Crankshaft Position Sensor Resistance - 2:48
Stator Continuity - 3:43
Stator Resistance - 4:54
Voltage Regulator - 6:47

Michael Sabo , no problem I used to have a Yamaha blaster but, now I have a Yamaha raptor 350 and, a lot of the things that you are doing to your raptor 700 are helping me with my 350!

My raptor 700 showed the same engine light code and is was the exact same problem. Now it works perfect!

You better make some videos ridin that thing after makin us wait lol, did a good job on the car interior it’ll look good when it’s cleaned with those chrome wheels, bout to graduate from my electrical class in may so hopefully I’ll be able to get a job and build up another quad, great video once again!

Awesome Mike : Good troubleshooting techniques for someone with no formal training. I got My 1st lesson in electricity when I plugged the 2 wires from My slot car motor into the wall when I was 7 or 8 years old & I recommend nobody ever try that.

Yeah timeing was always difficult for me cuz you can look in the sight glass and find the T an put the sprocket on the gear line your marks up but you can still be off on the sprocket gear its self it's hard to explain

i've been messing with my crf250r that has been a handful to cold start after getting the motor stroked and ported. A little different but after watching lund mx trying to fix a starting problem on a privateer 450 that was taking forever to start as well, he concluded it was a stater as well. Needless to say, that is my next i'll be trying this as well on my bike.

What is the last setting you put your meter on when testing the voltage regulator? It looks like ohms but I am not positive

Im so mad i didnt comment about the stator lmao. I was thinking this when u first got it. Great job brother! Now what your going to want to watch out for with the cheap stators is that even though they test good sometimes they just dont work. I had a yamah yzf600f streetbike and i bought a cheap ebay stator, i tested it right out of the box. The bike ran before i changed the stator but it would kill the battery. The reason it would run was because it was carburated and only the charging side of the stator was bad so it could run off the battery. The issue was when i swapped it out for the ebay one, i ohm tested it right out of the box and it was good. Put it on the bike and she wouldnt run at all. I wound up paying the money for an oem one and sure enough she ran great. As for the rectifier that just converts your ac sine wave from the stator into a dc signal to charge the battery so thats not the issue. If it were you would be able to run the bike off of a good battery for a bit until it drained out. Just my 2 cents man take itfor what its worth lol. Got the stang up n going did u see the dyno results?? Also keep up the good videos i watch em all!

Stupid Fast hey bro, thank you for the advice and info! This was a huge learning experience for me. I was back and forth on the cheaper stator, but I read actual reviews from this one from other raptor guys and apparently it's making the cut for them; hopefully mine will work too. I'll check out the Mustang!

Preciate the vid very helpful just have one question. Did your raptor turn over have spark but just wouldn't start, but would start after pushing starting

Thanks man! It had spark and would almost never fire up even if push starting. It was either the crank position sensor or the stator.

My raptor will start and idle fine but when you try to rev it it will stall out tps reads fine what could it be?

My stator test is 00.4 and my crank shaft position sensor only shows readings of resistance, erratic numbers sometimes it shows and sometimes it does not and will only show for a second. My ATV will not start engine does not turn over at all. There’s no spark from the spark plug but you can hear the starter trying to turn I replace the starter and, the relay to the battery I did have a code 12 for the camshaft position sensor, but I took it out and plug it back in, and the code went away, but still no star or spark

Hey Michael i have a 07 700r raptor and i rebuild the engine, it fired up right away 2 days later it won't start my crankshaft position sensor is reading 277 but my stator reads 0.2 i ordered a new stator and also reads 0.2 and the quad still won't start. any idea?

Did you have any check engine codes? I have none, but the quad won't start. Havent tested the actual stator but the sensor tested 140 ohms. I figured id get a code for that though if it was bad.

hank offroad thanks brother! I learned today that just because you have spark when testing outside of the cylinder, does not mean you have spark when under compression. The plug needs more power when under the force of compression to bridge the spark gap. This stator is reading a higher than normal resistance, so that would yield a weaker spark and it's very possible that it's not sparking when it's in the cylinder.

When measuring resistances that low, you need to zero the meter. Or at least take into account the reading with the leads shorted. The difference will be the resistance of the stator.

Put the meter on Ohms, and hold the leads together. Note the reading. Then read the stator. Subtract the first reading from the second reading with the stator. The difference will be the true resistance of the stator.

I bought a cheap ebay stator for my banshee they pulse coil was wired backwards an cause it to fire backwards an shattered my starter gear new clutch basket gear pressed into it an switched wires for the pulse coil an was good then 3 ride out it kept stalling an lights died bulbs were still good :( bought a good name stator an she runs fine

Seems like the timing is off, since it's getting spark, gas, and air there's no reason it shouldn't be starting other then bad timing. Do a 400ex build, cheap bike, cheap parts, and they work crazy, not many in depth videos on building one up.
