You get some bright sparkling guitars as a high line and some brass in there and I'm sold. Get Mark to listen to ska and admit it's a bit fantastic, oh yeah, here we go~ Also: That flamboyant editing is the sweet sweet icing on this cake.

The piano player in this track is Hiromi Uehara, an amazing Japanese jazz pianist. Not sure if you like that stuff, but if you want to see someone go off and completely feeling the music while they are playing, Hiromi her solo stuff (or with the trios she played) are always a great bet. If you want more ska-jazz, there is an aptly named band called New York Ska-Jazz Ensemble who are pretty good at this stuff (I mainly know their first 2 albums though, but I really enjoyed those). I used to listen to a lot of ska and reggae in the late 90's and early 2000's until I really dove into metal which made me stop listening to most other music for close to 20 years (not counting some genres I use to relax before going to bed like more electronic music). I still enjoy it personally even if I don't listen to it that much any more, but if you don't like the typical ska-beat with the upstrokes, a lot of the genre is certainly not for you. I have to say that some of those concerts are some of the best ones I have been too, but I can also say I wasn't super sober during those either, so that might be why.

You can see the moment he remembers he's supposed to hate it at like 2:14 He protests and stops moving his head, manually inverts his smile, but he's still tapping his toe or something from the way his body is moving.

It is her on the piano. Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra plays with a lot of other guest artists, it seems.

When I was a younger man, I loved ska bands like Buck-O-Nine and Mighty Mighty Bosstones. There is nothing wrong with me!! LOL This was a nice song! A little too slow for me though. I prefer Ska at a much faster tempo.

You probably enjoy/are more used to 2nd and 3rd wave ska bands (from the 80's and 90's and later) who tended to mix or are more influenced by things like punk rock and rock in general. A lot of what Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra plays is a bit closer to early ska from the 50'/60's (which was actually the precursor to reggae), which to my ears is actually a bit closer to jazz than newer ska music although this sounds pretty "modern". Early ska is pretty close to reggae in sound but with more horns basically and a bit faster (but not nearly as fast as newer ska). I watched 2 concerts by one of the founding bands, The Skatalites, in the early 2000's when there was still one of the original members in the band and it was amazing. Seeing a 70+ year old frontman not wanting to leave the stage and cursing at the organizers of the festival and trying to play more songs (they had to pull him off eventually) all after a great concert was a pretty memorable moment actually.
