i rode this ferry line on a cold, gray, windy november day 35 years ago. old small ferry with a partially open car deck below and a tatami room or plastic chairs in the superstructure. out in the open water it snowed. inside was superheated, as is usual in japan, so i stood outside to avoid getting seasick and froze. i was the only foot passenger and only gaijin. the scenery was beautiful, it was a great ride.

I did too, 35 years ago! I do recall some fellow setting up a pool lounge chair on the deck and enjoying the freezing conditions from his ”1st class seat”. I assumed he was a regular... I preferred the overheated tatami room sitting with the お婆ちゃん's...

The way to travel is just so much better in my opinion. The themed or common busses are clean and efficient, the ferrys are unique and affordable and clean. The trains as an autistic person are absolutely awesome especially the themed ones

@@wattsinc. I’m on the spectrum too, the neat tidy and precise ‘ness’ of Japan …love it! Have you seen videos about the trains? The drivers have to do a precise set of actions periodically to ensure they’re awake & alert. They’re run with precision to the second, they have a special circular hole in the drivers dashboard to put their old style round pocket watches. Have you see Sumo food channel? You might enjoy watching the competitions too, they have the same precise order and calm 😁have a great day! Ps, have you seen Murdoch mysteries? There’s a Watts on there and of course it’s set before autism was recognised, but he’s definitely on the spectrum with us.

In France to UK, the situation is similar, walk-on passengers are reluctantly welcome. There is no public transport link to the terminal. Walk-ons are an after thought or “second-class” in terms of experience vs vehicles.
